I took my kids and friends all three years to this event - and it was SCARY! The events at the museum have returned to the same old benign ones they had for so many years. And why, when the kids are over the age of 5 that they no longer want to go there. Perhaps the museum wants to go back to its roots, that of the farm etc. Should the Historical Society plan to host the Maximum Terror next year, they only need to reach out to the lower Fairfield County teen set - at all the high schools. They will get plenty of volunteers! But please don't put it in downtown Stamford. That's a scary enough place without the dressed up zombies.

We also enjoyed Maximum Terror over the years and my 17 year old son volunteered last Halloween. Looks like we are losing all our Fairfield County Haunts. Cranbury Park in Norwalk closed theirs down a few years ago. I know Stew Leonards has something going on, but I believe that is geared toward little ones. Also, Designs by Lee Nurseries in Stamford has a Haunted Hayride every year with costumed actors that scare the kids as a tractor drives them through the tree fields.
Downtown Stamford scary? Lady, where do you live, in Disneyland?

I cant believe the Stamford museum would turn its back on such a terrific event. My wife and I went to it the last 3 years with my kids (8,10,14) and they all loved it. It was starting to be our Halloween tradition. The Haunt got bigger and better every year. My eldest son (15) wanted to volunteer this year and help out. Another great event lost for no reason. =(

Why would a non-profit not continue such a popular event that the public obviously enjoyed? I asked a bunch of poeple and they said the museum said they wanted to focus on families and young children??? Im a mother of 2 young children (9,11) and we really liked it. Dont we count? I also heard that the museum claimed it wasnt a money maker???? I find that hard to believe, I saw the amount of people last year, besides the museum is a non-profit, as long as it did not cost them money to host it, I dont understand why they wouldnt. The exposure and reconition the museum recieved each year from this event alone was tremendous. this was something unique and different that the museum offered the citizens of Stamford. Shame on them for not keeping it going.

We were so disappointed to hear that Maximum Terror wouldn't be doing the haunt this year. It is an event we look forward to every year. October isn't the same without it! Our son enjoyed volunteering his time there as well. We can only hope that next year they will find a facility to house them and bring back this fun family event!!

The article did state that Peter Chichester may have his haunt hosted by the Historical Society of Stamford next year, but I wonder how that will work, it seems they don't really have the large space the Musuem had. Historical Society stated that they only have room for (2) 30 x 30 tents and only 80 parking spaces? I wish I had the room on my property in Norwalk, I would love to have it here! LOL! As it is, my husband and I are running out of room for our Home Haunt and now have to rent a storage unit to store our halloween props and a rental truck to move them back and forth every year!

"We thought that kids really enjoy it, and we're trying to do more activities that reach out to families," Coleman said.
and the museum was saying they didn't think it was family-oriented enough? Ha, their loss!
Maximum Terror 4-eva!

I'm absolutely enraged that the Haunted House is not taking place this year. I thought that it was such a fun and safe activity for families with both younger children and teenagers. I can't believe that Stamford Museum and Nature Center wouldn't want to host it this year. Who ever runs that establishment must be completely ludacris. Why on earth would you take away something that gives the teens from stamford (who make up the bulk of the volunteers of the Haunted House) something to do on the weekends besides get into trouble? I know that I, personally, cannot wait to see it return next year; bigger and better than ever.

Alyssa, you are too funny!:)
If I remember correctly, after reading thet Advocate's first article regarding Maximum Terror nog going forward (entitled: "Ghosts, goblins seek new home for haunting"), the feeling I got after read it was that the Museum "Board members" looked down their noses at the event. I guess they feel it was not appropriate?
Oh well!

It's pretty sad that the Stamford Museum canceled such a family oriented event. People from all over Fairfield County and beyond would come to enjoy the festivities and celebrate Halloween in a safe and controlled environment. Hopefully next year the Stamford Museum will host the event again and not disappoint so many people. Shame on who ever made the decision to not participate in such a fun event.
