I don't believe the Mayor, he had to know. And thats what kind of stuff that been going for the past couple of years here in Stamford. Its kind of messed up that these big corporations come in here and buy property. Then Don't intend to help the community with housing that is affordable. And the town officials just let it happen. I really don't think thats fair to any of the residents in town who are struggling to pay outrageous rents. I think if they build housing, instead of 10% of it being affordable they should increase it to 20% of affordable.

The Trump Parc developers got over on that deal. Instead of making affordable housing in the The Trump Parc, they just brought a separate building to make up for it. That means they don't believe in affordable housing in my opinion.

I heard a rumor yesterday the once the Trump Parc project is completed, the on-site safety inspector will head up an Affordable Housing Commission. So you see there is nothing to worry about.

A community??!?! Are you people smoking something? The "housing" around the RBS building looks more like Fallujah to me... they need to level 95% of the entire depressed downtown area. Every single Stamford resident should be grateful that RBS is moving in - maybe they'll clean up your town for you.
I wouldn't be surprised if they bought it just so clients don't have to see the "historic community" when they come by for a visit.

Take notice in the real estate transactions and you will see Stamford Health Systems has been buying up all the multi family homes from Wright Street all the way to Liberty Street and in between.
I heard that the plan is to buy up all these homes, knock them down and build a new Stamford Hospital.

They will use it to build even MORE luxury condos that only their highly paid employees can afford. You have desireable waterfront property, why should it be "wasted" on the working class, when the wealthy can and will pay top-dollar for it? Remember though, its the landlords who sold the property to RBS, these residents are mostly renters. If you owned 6 houses and someone offered you 12.7 million for them, would you say "no, I really want to keep these houses so poor people can live there"?
Its not RBS' or the landlords responsibility to help them find a new place to live, but if Stamford wants a balance of wealthy people and working class to support them, there needs to be aqeduate housing for them to live in. Or, they can just move to bridgeport, I mean hey, it least everything is right by the train station.

Lets get one thing straight - Stamford Health Systems is NOT a NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION as it once was!! It is part of Columbia University. It is an UNKNOWN TEACHING HOSPITAL for new medical students from Columbia Medical School and they practice on US!!!! Yet the City and STATE give them NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION tax breaks - nice huh!!! Remember this for the rest of your lives "Medicine is NO longer a Profession; IT IS A BUSINESS AND THEY ARE OUT FOR PROFIT LINE MARGINS AND BONUSES TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS!" This RBS & City NOT KNOWING anything about the housing closing down around what was once Richmond Hill Ave and Clinton Ave is BULL! How else can the MAYOR make suburban Stamford look or becomes like either GREENWICH with its McMansions or NYC with its Skyscrapers??? Kick out the people that have lived here and MADE this city work over the years! IF the houses, as that nitwit from Greenwich claims are falling apart, BLAME THE LANDLORDS, NOT THE TENANTS!!! Tenants can not fix up their buildings, ONLY THE LANDLORDS or shall we say SLUM LORDS can do that. And they know how to cheat the tax laws. Not all are, but a good share are! If you own property, your take care of it - its an investment; but if your own it for profit and do not live there and let it get moldy, leaky, and fall apart, then that is a Slum Lord from all descriptions I know of. Blame the low and middle class "Greenwich" because you have your "Class" code there and we do not! The old addage "Money is the root of all evil" is TRUE in the sense that, the means to which one goes to make money while making other fellow human beings suffer is the Evil part. We as Americans are not hated for WHO WE ARE, but for WHAT WE TREAT OTHER HUMAN BEINGS AS COMPARED TO US!! Been there and felt the hatred until they learned I am no better than they really are. A Charity donations is FAKE if the person or company does it only to get a TAX BREAK!! Charity is to give witout seeking recognition or reward other than knowing one has helped someoneelse!!

Wake up people. Your tax dollars are subsidizing this "growth" in a very disproportionate way.

These large companies have been coming to Stamford for quite a while now, yet there as been no tax relief for the average joe taxpayer of this city.

Instead, we've ended up with collusion between city officials and developers, a downtown traffic nightmare, an influx of illegal immigration to cater to the well off, overcrowded schools that continue to suck money in and show little if any improvement in return, and an environment that basically benefits the very rich and discards the low and middle class.

I don't like paying taxes either, but if you don't like the tax rates here in Stamford, move to Bridgeport and see what a higher tax rate gets you.

Do you have concrete proof of this "collusion"? I love all these big talkers on this ridiculous website who think everything is Malloy's fault and that he's in bed with the developers. I don't agree with everything he and his administration do, but it would be hard to argue that Stamford is worse off than it was 15 years ago. You can't sit back and let your city stagnate (like Bridgeport) and you also can't turn back the clock and make Stamford into a nice, quiet rural town like some people on these boards would like. I applaud them for thinking progressively, specifically in expanding the economic base of the city rather than relying on one industry or company and hoping and praying that they never leave (i.e.: Detroit).

As for traffic, we live in a congested city in a congested state in a congested region of the U.S. Name one medium-sized or larger city that has no traffic problems. Since we can't grow new land, the only way traffic will improve is if more people carpool, bike, walk or take public transportation. Based on the number of people driving solo in tank-sized Ford Excursions I see around town, that's not going to happen any time soon (though I walk whenever feasible).

On the contrary, Stamford WAS better off 15 years ago. What have the increased taxes done for you lately? I'm no better off today than I was 15 years ago, just a little poorer. and I know I'm not alone.

I don't know, Stamford has become pretty heavily tilted towards the financial services side. Perhaps your progressive thinkers were more short-sided than you think.

Ever tried to bike through downtown Stamford? Stamford isn't exactly bike friendly in case you haven't noticed. In fact, it's not very pedestrian friendly either. And public transportation is a joke.

Really? How many sidewalk cafes are there in downtown Bridgeport? Did Stamford ever ask for a federal bailout? Does Stamford have entire swaths of empty factories and abandoned houses (there are some, but not nearly as many as in Bpt.)?

<quoted text>
As a matter of fact, I do. Expect to read some interesting news articles in the coming weeks.
<quoted text>

I can't wait.

That's funny. I don't recall mentioning anyone's names. Do you know something you'd like to share?
<quoted text>

I didn't mean you specifically; it just seems like a lot of the posters here think Malloy is the Antichrist and has brought poverty, suffering, locusts, boils and death to Stamford when in reality, it's a pretty nice place to live (yes, it's expensive, but in my opinion it's not a bad tradeoff).

On the contrary, Stamford WAS better off 15 years ago. What have the increased taxes done for you lately? I'm no better off today than I was 15 years ago, just a little poorer. and I know I'm not alone.
<quoted text>

Really? When the downtown was deserted except for drug dealers and hookers? If that's your idea of better, Waterbury might be the place for you.

As for taxes, I'm not an economist or financial whiz, but it seems to me that taxes go up for a few reasons: government inefficiency leading to waste, increased costs for current services, and increased demand for services. I realize I'm oversimplifying this, but either taxes go up or services get cut. I don't like paying taxes either, but somebody has to pay for the police, firefighters, snow removal, road repair, etc.

Again, if you have concrete proof that the government has knowingly misspent tax money, please share it.

I don't know, Stamford has become pretty heavily tilted towards the financial services side. Perhaps your progressive thinkers were more short-sided than you think.

<quoted text>
You may have a point there, but there are also a lot of high-tech and other industries in town. My point is that they don't rely on one giant business or employer the way cities used to; even Stamford was devastated when Yale and Towne closed.

Ever tried to bike through downtown Stamford? Stamford isn't exactly bike friendly in case you haven't noticed. In fact, it's not very pedestrian friendly either. And public transportation is a joke.
True, it's not bike friendly mainly because bikes are outnumbered about a million to one. It would be pretty much impossible for any city to reconfigure its roadway infrastructure to allow for unfettered bike traffic. The fact is, this is a mid-sized city with a lot of cars. Unless you can conceive of some amazing traffic solution, we all just have to take a deep breath and deal with it. And honestly, try driving in L.A. or Miami for a year; Stamford's roads will seem like Amish country!

Wow, a million to one. Careful with those big numbers there cowboy, you might hurt yourself.

For every town you cite for traffic issues, I can point to just as many where they are doing it right. Go take a trip over to Portland, OR to see how bikers can get along just fine with those "million" cars.

The best way to look at this development is this.
Connecticut and Stamford wiil not be having large amounts of working class residents because there is no development coming in to hire large amounts of working class people, no labor intensive industry, as the days of factories, mills etc are gone. Stamford's expansion is what is available and is the way to go to take advantage of what Stamford offers. There will be a working class as there will be jobs for them,and housing, but in a new arrangement. We have to accept what the future will be
