Really people?$5 is going to make or break your entire evening? Youre paying $3ish to park...youre paying for wine and/or beer and/or food should you choose. Youre going to let a measly $5 stop you? One less glass of cheap wine. Fine, dont go, there will hopefully be more room for those of us who are willing to pay $5 to see a concert. We will be able to move and breathe without getting our toes crushed, or our backs elbowed, or beer spilled on us by some underage moron so drunk out of his mind that he cant even hold back his girlfriends hair while shes busy PUKING in an alley. If you dont like the bands, dont go. If you dont want to pay, dont go. Its really that simple.

It's about time ! It doesn't even cover the taxpayers expenses . These attendees have no trouble paying for the alcohol ! I don't hear anyone complaining about the $20 ripoff for the beach sticker and get crowded out by out of towners who walk in for free. How about more enforcement, Darien and Greenwich don't have the influx of these people who make a mess and could care less about the parks. Stamford The City that Works ???????

I am sure they could no longer cover the costs with private sponsors in this economy. Would people rather there be NO concert instead of paying $5?

The $5 charge is a way to keep the trashy people out of the event. Does anyone remember all the fights that broke out last year?!?! It was young ghetto punks that caused those fights and ruined the experience for everyone. The $5 charge and the age limitation will keep that trash out of the event and make it a safer place for everyone. It's the same reason bars have cover charges...trashy people won't pay so they won't go. You should be thanking the officials from Stamford for this instead of bashing them because they are making it a better and safer experience for all.

Sad Day wrote: $5 is no big deal. But the line-up IS a big deal. It's the worse line-up EVER and makes no sense. The DSSD wants this to be an adult event, yet they book bands that appeal to kids? Smashmouth? Sugar Ray? You've got to be kidding. Is there no music available for responsible adults over 30? kurt cobain and layne staley are dead, so no.

I would prefer if they go back the local and small-time acts. If I wanted to go see Sugar Ray, I would go to a real concert venue, where I can choose from a selection of overpriced beer, and band parephernalia in an arena that was designed to host an audience. The Columbus park area of downtown is not a good place to host popular, one-hit wonders and tacky television pseudo-stars. I know the whole event is good business for the overpriced dirty bars, crappy clubs and restaurants but people are going to learn quickly. If the desire is to turn alive @$5 into a Stamford-esque Oyster Festival, might I suggest a better venue? Perhaps in one of the many giant parks in Stamford?

I don't understand how access to a public park and public streets can be restricted. What if you are going to a restaraunt in the area? If they want to charge admission, move it to a different venue. The best way to gain control of the event is to book bands that will draw crowds that are reasonable for that space.
