I'm sure you love your dogs and that is great, all dog owners should be so loving to an obviously aggresive breed. The reason pits get so much bad publicity is due to the facts and the stats against them...the numbers do not lie. Did you bother to read any of the articles I posted. These dogs attack without warning, and can go from being loving and nurturing dogs to man eaters in a few minutes for no known reason, I hope you watch your dogs closely around your children. There is no way I would own a dog like that considering what thier breed is know for.

Ignorant is not following warning signs and not listening to other peoples stories when they say, their pit was loving and loyal and they raised it since it was a puppy and without warning one day it just rips their child's face off, then you own one anyway- if I had no small children I may consider owning a pit, but as it stands no way. I would be ignorant to have one and take that chance with my 2 year old toddler running around.

<quoted text>No I dont think she is uneducated just on pits.Everyone thinks pits are so awful and they are not.The people that are wful are the ones that dont respect the animal. And being the owner of many pits that are not like most pits they are show dogs,we have to be on the defense with our dogs because people only want to look at them as bad dogs, the truth is any dog can bite.
Sounds like she got a first hand lesson on pits to me, so she must be educated on them now:)

April girl... I am just plain scared of those dogs, I am a dog lover, ever since I was small I would bring stray dogs home and my mom would have a fit. But the pit bulls are different when I look into there eyes I feel fear and I see something in those eyes I have never seen before, my sister got a baby one to grow up around her kids and do you know that little puppy started attacking her little baby, grant it the 2 year old was doing stuff that would agitate any dog and what the other dogs do i.e golden retrievers etc.., they go hide from the small children most of the time but not that baby pit bull, the fight was on for him. I know you love your dog and I know you feel safe with he or she around your child but I would feel just a little leary April. Sorry! But hey at least we both share the same Hate for the funky stinky enenfields!

NO I DO NOT WATCH THEM CLOSE BECAUSE I TRUST MY LIFE AND MY CHILDRENS WITH THEM.LOOK THE STATISTICS UP FOR OTHER DOGS ALSO.AS I SAID ALL DOGS BITE.THE REASON PITS GET BAD RAPS IS BECAUSE PEOPLE THAT ARE NOT EDUCATED WITH THE BREED.IT IS NOT THE PITS THAT ARE BAD IT IS THE PEOPLE WHO OWN THE PITS.I HAVE ONE DOG THAT IS NOT A SHOW DOG BUT JUS A PET,HER NAME IS DOTTIESND ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO DOTTIE LAID HER LIFE ON THE LINE FOR MY CHILDREN.ANOTHER DOG WHICH WAS NOT A PIT RAN IN MY YARD AND AFTER MY KID WELL DOTTIE GOT HER OUT THE YARD AND RAN OVER BY A SUV JUST TO PROTECT MY KIDS.THAT IS NOT A MEAN MAN EATER BUT A TRUE FRIEND AND PROTECTER.

As withany animal yes they can turn so can many other breeds.I was the same way growing up and still like that.I get pits that have been abused fought and starved.I nurse them back to health sometimes spending thousands a year just to make sure these animals get a second chance.Until someone has had a pit and loved it more than anything and recieved that love back they will not understand. You will always hear stories about pits thats why alot of people are so scared you just dont hear to much about the chows and rotties also labs yes they are also high up there for attacks. The main reason people say pits are so awful is they lock down on what they are bitting untrue they know how to breath with their mouths closed were other dogs have to open their mouth.A pitbull can be your bestfriend in the world I have one.He is 90 pounds and a blue pit.He is my bestfriend in the world and love children. He is retired from show so he is a couch potato. He is just like a human. He would never ever hurt anyone. He is trained so well a baby can make him sit and take orders. Please dont judge these loyal animals without knowing one.

But you never know when they will turn on you. Just like a boa contrictor.

Rotweillers are well known to turn on their families as they age or get an ailment.

No one needs to own a vicious dog. And a lot insurance companies will not insure homeowners with vicious dog breeds. Insurance companies have had to pay out a lot for dog bites. Most were from pit bulls, rotweillers, bull mastiffs and dobermans.

So what should happen? All breeds that some people believe to be vicious just be put down. What about people that are vicious? These dogs have hearts and soul could you take that pet and put it down?

True enough. I usually try to educate myself before I make an opinion. I research quite extensivly. I don't mean to offend you, I just don't think everyone is wrong when it comes to this subject. In any case, you seem to love your dogs a great deal, and that is wonderful. As I said before, if all dog owners were so loving and responsible the world would be a better place. My last stand.....NO PITS IN MY HOUSE. Good luck to you Ms. April and keep on loving your babies, it sounds like they make you very happy and that is a blessing.

I hope this isn't who I think it is, because if it is, I'm sure your attorney has told you that you're not supposed to be talking about your case at all, especially over the internet. I'll be watching...

You're an idiot too. You missed the entire point. By the way, there should be a caps lock button right next to the "A" key. Try pressing it. Thanks.

Not put down, but properly contained so they cannot get out to maul or kill someone. And absolutely no insurance company to insure their owners. Because if they do, then all insurance rates go up. Why should I pay extra so a homeowner can own a pit bull, rottweiler, doberman or some other vicous dog that no one knows from one day to the next what that dog will do.

Humans are higher on the food chain. please remember that.

If you like big scary looking dogs, German Shepards are a good choice. They are easily trained, very protective of their family and you can control them more easily than other vicious breeds. But remember.....if you get insurance, your rates will be high high high.

You are right it isn't only pit bulls that bite, they just have the worst reputation, and the statistics reflect there may be some truth to the rumors of pit bulls. German Shepards are my choice dogs, they are very loyal to their family, but usually only to their own family. They will bite outsiders with a quickness and if the child isn't theirs then yes they may hurt the child as well. This is where their loyality is flawed some what, cause they can be just as dangerous, just not to their owners usually, where as pits are notorious for hurting their owners and their own household members. It's sad but there is just too much evidence against the pit bull. I have nothing but good experience's with pit's myself, never owned one, but the one's I have been around thru friends and aquanintances have always been sweet passive loving dogs, still I would not own one due to all the hype I have heard about them.

I'm sorry to tell you this but we had a German Shepard who was a family dog back when I was younger and out of nowhere he jumped up and attact my brother for no reason so my mom had him put to sleep. That didn't stop her from getting another one though who ended up being a great dog and very protective of ANY child.

I think its all in how you breed them. If you breed the mother with the son or the father with the daughter or even the brother and sister together, your gonna run the chances of it having a good dog turning bad. If you want to own ANY breed of dog, you need to find out their family history and how they were bred before choosing anything. I was told all this by someone who breeds dogs.

You should never judge a book by its cover. Just because a certain breed has a bad rep. doesn't mean that their all bad.

You are so right.Pits have got a bad name because of backwoods rednecks that inbreed them for the purpose in fighting them, also these drug dealers that have them as a show of power(so they think)That is what gives these loving dogs bad names. For the owners that love their pits and give them great homes we have to deal with people saying that is a dangerous dog or how could you own a dog like that.It is unfar to the pits that are devoted family dogs that protect and obey their owners, and the owners that so love them.I myself have always owned pitbulls several types and my bestfriend is a blue pitbull. He is a grand champion in ukc confromation. He is a part of my family and will always be.People that have never owned one really dont know how loyal and loving these dogs can be.The stories you hear all the time scare most people off from the breed, but most of these dogs that attack have been breed or raised wrong. If you are a responsable owner with these dogs they will be great animals, but in the wrong hand they can be deadly like with anything else.GUNS PEOPLE CIGGARETTES AND DRUGS are more deadly.I get very upset when people bash pits I try to educate people on the breed but sometimes I get to upset.I rescue a lot of these dogs from people that have faught, starved and abused these dogs and it would break your heart with some of the thing I have seen.My dream is to open a pitbull rescue one day for these animals deserve a chance. There are some that are to far gone to save or to aggresive and have to be put down but you find it in every breed. So being said all this I hope that some may change their opinion but I dought it to many have their mind set that these are monsters but remember that these are loving loyal animals to some people.(PUNISH THE DEED AND NOT THE BREED)
