A recent National Geographic article,“The End of Cheap Oil” warned that when oil prices rise, every transported product also becomes more expensive. Food, for example, travels an average of 1,300 miles from farm to plate. The article noted that it takes almost a gallon of oil to make one pound of beef, and nearly 7 gallons to make one tire. Oil is also used to make medical implants, computers, and fertilizers. And 90% of all organic chemicals come from oil (including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and plastics). The 20 million barrels of oil per day consumed in the US goes for: Transportation 68%, Agriculture and Industry 24%, Residential Heat 4%, Commercial Heat 2%, and Generating Electricity 2% according to the BP Statistical Review. Are We There Yet? The world’s oil supplies could last 40 years or more, according to some projections. But serious trouble starts when ready supplies begin to decline, long before we get to the last drop. And many experts believe that we’re already there. Best Case Scenario: The 2004 British Petroleum Statistical Review of World Energy gave the most optimistic projection we could find, predicting that global oil reserves will be gone in 2045, based on known reserves and current rates of consumption, called the R/P ratio. By the same measure, US reserves will be exhausted in 2015. Drill.... No to Socialist Hussein Obama What do you stand to gain from the drilling? Are you going to profit in any way from all these billions of more dollars being poured into Big Oil Companies? Or are you going to be one of the one's paying for the drilling? Like the rest of America?

What's your plan then? We are years, probably decades, from being off oil, so why not have the ability to control it ourselves if WW3 comes up? We rely on people who want to kill us for a resource one could argue is the most important to our economy, yet we don't have to because we have plenty right here.

Oh, and by the way, anyone who has a 401, IRA, 529, pension, or mutual fund probably owns stock in an oil company, so more Americans than not benefit from good oil profits.

Bottom line....George Bush is the President until his term is over, like it or not. Nasty Nancy P. is a jealous, hateful, obstructionist, agree or not. We have to drill, because we need that bridge to alternative energy that drilling will give us. Start shutting down that non-stop cash outflow to the Middle East by becoming oil independent and the economy will improve. Build more refineries, nuclear plants, wind farms and take advantage of solar energy (= jobs). We have to want this to make it work and the help and cooperation of Capitol Hill would be appreciated. Oh, and give Al Gore a swift kick in his energy wasting butt! obama is just going with what his advisors tell him is the popular thing to do. Flipflop, Flipflop, Flipflop. That's how it comes across when you have no real idea how to lead. 144 days in Washington looks pretty lonely on the resume.

It's more than obvious you have no clue when it comes to the oil industry.

The advances in exploration technology negate the "Known Reserves" argument altogether. The oil reserves we see today were not discovered with 19th century technology. Imagine what we will find with 21se century tech. The Earths crust is what 30 miles thick? And life has been here for what, 3.5 billion years. I'd say that there is quite a bit of oil out there just waiting to be discovered. The need for "Clean Energy" is there. Fusion, Solar, Geothermal. It will come, no need to ruin the worlds economy, and put millions of people on the Suffer Train to Hell trying to force the issue. If I'm wrong about the "Hidden reserves," theres always that Moon orbiting Saturn. It has OCEANS of hydrocarbons. Enough for Millions of years. We'll be a Level 1 Civilization long before we run out of that. I agree with everything, but fusion may not ever happen on earth.

END THE WAR From: Cafe, Election Central The McCain Myth of Experience By MiddleChild - June 14, 2008, 6:06PM John McCain is running for President on his one great asset, his experience and strength in military and foreign affairs. My question is, what experience, what strength? This is a man who graduated third from the bottom of his class of almost 900 students, crashed 5 planes, flew only 21 hours before he was captured and that is it. He has no military command experience, never lead any troops, and cannot even get the factions in Iraq straight when he has been corrected over and over. The only experience this man has is D.C., and that is exactly what we do not want. I want intelligence, fresh ideas, and promises kept. Senator McCain cannot even operate a computer by his own admission, but we are to trust him running our country in a global economy? The McCain who ran in 2000 is not the McCain running now. He has lost his edge, he seems at times to run off the track and he certainly is not grasping basic facts about the war. He is NOT experienced, he is just another rerun. I want a new show.
