Hi,
I'll be moving down to St. Marys in January from Augusta, GA. Wanted to know if anyone had any feedback concerning the New Hope Christian Academy? Any advice/feedback would be appreciated, I couldn't find much online. Thanks, Carla |

1 What about children that went hungry because of the drug habits the parents had? What about the baby's that don't have a chance to a fair start? What about the child right know that is being sold off for some drugs? If that money did go to this School so be it, it was a bad decision but a very good cause. And don't you dare come back on me with prayer and God. He gave us choice's and free will what we do with that it is on us. If I could I would take that amount of money given to the School and place it back into he drug fund if that would shut you up about good ideas v bad decisions. We all now what you think of the Sheriff and God knows you have done your home work on the spending of drug funds. |

Carla - New Hope is a church-subsidized school, grades pre-K through 8th. Pastor George Anderson is the principal, as well as pastor of the adjoining church, New Hope Baptist Church. New Hope is reformed in doctrine but this does not "bleed over" into any specific area of the school instruction, which is ABeka. The tuition is very inexpensive and most children - in our experience - attend the full 8 or 9 years which breeds a sense of community. Uniforms are required but nothing special - blue or khaki bottoms with solid-colored polo shirts. Some teachers are better than others... of course... and they are not required to hold any sort of degree. In fact, most do not have college degrees - which isn't a big problem, in my estimation, because the A Beka curriculum is workbook-driven. Limited before and after care is offered - inexpensive - and a "microwaveable" meal selection is offered for breakfast and lunch. Bro. Anderson views the school as a ministry and treats it as such. He is a fine Christian man and wonderful pastor. The church is small, however, so most of the teachers are not members of his church, although they do - for the most part - attend other churches in the area.

Carla, I can tell you that the public schools here are terrible. Not really at the teacher level, but at the administration level. If I could afford to send all my kids to New Hope I would. i have heard nothing but good things. |

Carla,
My two children were students there for several years (oldest child for 4 yrs) before we moved too far to make the drive. The teachers are very christian. some are better than others, as always. I recommend it for young children. But, the school is not accredited, and in recent years the teaching staff has become almost a not-at-home-homeschool co-op. As another person wrote, they use Abeka curriculum, so it isn't that big of a deal, unless you have older children. They are limited in their extracurricular activities b/c of school size, but do now offer Spanish in the lower grades. Usually piano tutoring is available during school hours, for additional costs, also, which we took advantage of. They do offer "pre-care" in the mornings beginning at 7:30 (?) and "after-care" until 5:00, the cost is on a weekly basis, or as-needed for $3.00/hr. Uniforms are very easy... no particular brand or store required... just the style. Only K5 and up are required to follow the uniform reqmt. K3 & K4 do not. Also, one of the few schools left that releases the K5 kids at noon (same as the K3 & K4). They do provide lunches or bring your own (staff can/will heat micro items for the students) and usually takeout pizza slices are available on Fridays. Cost is very reasonable. We never had issues with doctrinal matters. Hope this helps. |

I am a former member of New Hope. I would highly recommend this Church and school. My son Jeremiah attended N.H. Academy and they did a wonderful job in teaching him. He enrolled from a public school and his grades greatly improved!! They are a very Christ centered minstry and all the teachers are great. Pastor George Anderson was the principle at the time and he is a wonderful pastor. Their teaching is Christ Alone and Scripture Alone and is based on Sovereign Grace. It would be a great blessing to have your child attend here!!!

I graduated from Camden County School system. I have nothing negative nor positive to say about New Hope. But I will say this. Camden County has a good public school system, in fact I am trying to relocate there to get my children in their school system. |

My son went to New Hope and I never heard of anything like that happening. I was in and out of the school at various times of the day and never saw anything like that happening as well. Staci, how old are you now and who was your teacher? My son got into trouble a few times and he never had to sit in the chapel inthe dark. He did have to go to the office and see the principal and he had to miss playground time for several days according to what he did. I saw kids that were having to sweep the gym during recess time. Overall I found the school to be fine for the size school it is. It is a small school and the teachers I knew were very kind. I had no complaints. |

1 I attended school there in 1985, a long time ago. I don't remember the name of my teachers. This was my experience at this school. If they put children in the chapel in the dark or not, this was a fear that was shared by myself and my peer and little was said by the teachers to dispel it. I remember the lady in the who sold snacks at lunch referencing it. That was my experience... |

2 Staci, I am so sorry that you had such a bad experience. It could be that the person wasn't there when my son went. It was in 1997 and after that he was there. I hope the person that instilled that in you was long gone and never to return to teaching anywhere. The church beliefs are a little different than mine but I found the Pastor to be a very good man and the staff the same. But I think it is in the best interest of your children to always listen to your child and ask questions. I always did that and sometimes without your child realizing why you are asking you can find out things that make you aware that you need to make surprise visitsl I had an occasion of that when he was in at a different school when he was younger. I watched a teacher slam his hand down on a desk. That wasn't a very good day and I am sure she remembers it all these years later. So parents pay attention. Discipline is a very good thing for our children and teaching them to respect but it needs to be done in the right way. Take care Staci! |

1 i went to New Hope aka No HOPE for 2years as a teenager, as long as your children are young and cant form opoioins by themselves, they should get along just fine with "Pastor" anderson. He believes he is the church and if you do not agree with how he believes, he will make life harder for you in the school. Up until recently the school was not accd.. so everything i worked for was for nothing, becuz the state did not recognize it. it was a worthless experience, the only thing my class gained from that school was how to go in there keep our heads down and wait for the bell to ring. i wouldnt recommend anyone to that place. |
