TR Hughes struggles to survive

Glad to hear he is struggling. I don't feel sorry for him...and neither does anybody who has bought a TR Hughes home.

He is a great guy. i worked with him for years in the real estate title business. he has great homes and a great reputation!!!!

Well then, there you have it. Everytime a TR Hughes home was sold, you profited by doing the title work.

Maybe he should worry more about running his business and less about manipulating St. Charles City politics.

He is a good guy....and has done a lot for the community.

What is the helicopter for? Homebuilders have huge egos. The economic meltdown is going to kill a lot more builders. My builder had a home built overlooking the Pacific Ocean and he lives in the midwest. The home took 2 years to complete, and now his company is BK for the second time this decade. The bubble has exploded!

When we bought our TR Hughes home, we went to the color selection center and they bragged about their company trip to Cancun for Christmas. They sure didn't put that money into our home...our brand new roof leaked within two weeks of moving in and we've had trouble every year since. The list of short-cuts and cheap options is long. Their houses don't sell well, either. The GOOD news is, since the boss had to sell his helicopter, vacation home, lay off 2/3 of his employees, their customer service has improved a bit, but we're in a neighborhood that may never be completed. It could be worse...we didn't buy a Jones Co. home.

Hey,T R isn't the only crap builder,Tom Johnson is much worse. You should see my house.I bought from Triad,what a piece of junk. I paid extra for window sills through out the house,looks and feels like the carpenter routed the edges with a friging beaver instead of a router.Had a problem with a decorative porch column,had to take it down for a proper fix,guess what I found? It had been shimmed with folded news paper and then covered the edge with caulk to hide it. If I were in the market right now,I would stear clear of T R,Tom Johnson and for sure Triad,they build crap. Bye

We baught our home in Mascoutah's Townsend square and TR hughes is crap. Windows leaked, banister was not even placed in correctly. Just slapped into drywall. There is little insulation and the house is either too hot or too cold. The ceilings and such are all showing the drywall and their caucking jobs are crap too. It looks like the house a kid built. Will try to sell when the economy gets better but and sure we will be taking a loss.

I feel your pain in Townsend. We were fortunate to get out of our TR Hughes home. But not after TR and DNI Properties filed a frivolous lawsuit against us. Good luck with selling.

P.s -- You may take a monetary lose -- but the mental gain is far better. Believe me!!!

Tom is a great guy, if you have something he wants or needs, like money/influence. He used me and then tossed me aside without a second thought. Worst part is, he went back on his word, which I thought meant something.

don't let the crap quality let you think that the union carpenters are no good... these builders make us use cheap materials and want us to hurry thru the finishing process. there are really good builders out there, its just that the current one got greedy and wanted more money out of the sale, and sacrificed the quality. i had a whittaker home and my neighbor built the exact same house a year after me and his exterior walls were made of foam for god sakes. forget about breaking in thru a window, robbers could just punch their way in.

I worked for them and let me tell you most of the workers loved working for the company at first. When the company started to grow in bounds is when the quality of product start to suffer. The Cancun trip was to reward employees for their hard work, and not that they did not like the trip but they would have prefered the money in hand more. I do not feel for the company and once they started to feel the pain workers might have been mad that they were being laid off, but they were soon happy not to be working for a company and owner that had lost their way. Most home builders are just like Automotive builders.

I was laid off by the company in January of 2008. I was shocked, I am working for my 3rd builder in 5 years. The two prior are not in business on this side of the river anymore. TR Hughes did have good customer service, they really cared about the people that bought from them and they strived to build a good house. I think what happened is when the market started to change in 2006 some builders continued to live like it was 2004 and 2005, leaving them with lots of land that they bought and not enough sales to support it.

TR Hughes is manipulative, self-serving, uncaring about his customers and dishonest with his representations. I would NEVER again buy another TR Hughes home. Anyone who thinks he is a great guy has never done business with him! The only thing he cares about is his pocketbook. Don't be fooled by him.

Have been in this home for 12 years. Within 3 years had plumbing and window issues and TR Hughes boy said go to the Lumber company about the windows and would not budge on doing anything. Three times we tried calling and could never speak to the "mighty one"!!Now the whole house needs to be done. Plumbers over the years laughed and said the original guys were a bunch of "drunks". We hope Hughes gets what is coming to his egotistical self.

I love my TRHughes home in Homefield.

The problem with builders is they start out with good intensions. Then when the money comes in, it breeds GREED!. I can't feel sorry for people who wipe their butts with $100.00 bills and don't make good business decisions. I saw Tom bid on a $10,000.00 class quilt at a school event. Some people like myself saved thier money during those good years and paid things off. Sometimes its better to climb the ladder of success slowly and prosper than to fall off the top. I really feel sorry for the hard working trades that put these people on top.

If you were part of his small group of favorites, you could do no wrong, but everyone else he used. He loved to play the poor humble guy who went to church regularly, but it was all a facade. He loved to talk about how he was just a former police officer, but didn't mention all of the time spent on his first homes while he was supposed to be on the job as a police officer.
