It would only be 30 years late doing this. It is unbelievable to me that a stretch of road so vital in linking West EP to Northeast EP has stayed 2 lane so long. And it is a real traffic hassle. Especially east bound when a large truck is crawling up that side.

SUPER, this is a long, long overdue project!

That Westside two lane section of highway is very DANGEROUS.

As the article states:

* "In addition, officials of the Transportation Department last month unveiled plans to finish the freeway part of Loop 375 along Trans Mountain in the Northeast."

* "The Loop 375 project in the Northeast -- coupled with the proposed $79 million project on the West Side -- would mean that most of the loop would be an uninterrupted freeway."

These two uncompleted sections of Transmountain Road/Loop 375 are the real "pain in the butt" part of the drive from Eastside to Westside and return.

Toll roads for the poor. The PDNG and the politicians whose palms are greased by them are going to make a lot of money with the privatization of roads.

I'm all for new and/or improved streets coming and going throughout El Paso. I want El Paso to be updated. We need more jobs, streets, freeways, etc. I wish we would hurry up and get that railway built to and from Santa Fe, New Mexico. I will be the first to ride that train!:)

Lets get some industry in here folks! Lets grow!!!!

Nacho, Ysleta may be low income but its ppl are good folks and the area is beautiful. I would trade my home Downtown for a country home in a New York second!

There have been way too many fatalities on that stretch of road over the years. Had it been widened long ago there could many more people still living. The states liable for not having it expanded long ago!

We absolutely need additional lanes between Schuster Exit and Mesa St exit. We don't have any access lanes so when there is a traffic accident it piles for hours.

Want the town with upgraded roads and streets? How just fixing what we have and MAINTAINING them?
That IS the sign of a modern city, not new roads/streets.

Nothing wrong with widening Transmountain. But that's NOT the cause of the deaths. It's the wannabe road runners.

By the way AMTRAK is losing money, 41 of 44 routes are losing so much money, the government subdizes each ticket approx 400.00 just to keep it running.
First the idea should be to give Santa Fe people a reason to come to EP not the other way around.

the tunnel maybe be best for a mas transit system. cars are fine going over the mountain. it's not that big of an issue for cars.

yeah which side of the city always gets the major infrastructure improvements? which sides gets what ever it wants? WEST.

Jeez, we dont even have landscaped medians on the east side! Eddie Holguin is the worst city Rep. ever.

rrr, We would glady trade the West Rep for Holguin. At least he stays awake during the meetings and doesnt wait for Byrd to tell him how to vote.

We have a street with over 99 traffic related accidents and until the neigborhood confronted her, it has been IGNORED during her entire term.

Widening that road - and later the rest of Transmountain - sadly means putting a freeway through our mountain state park....and the through truck traffic will continue on I-10 rather than take that mountain road, given the grade. This huge project does nothing to relieve the congestion on I-10 within the city. Building out the Border Highway - even as a toll road - might make more sense.

I'm sick and tired of these half-wit politicians dreaming up one project after another to suck more money out of us. If it ain't toll roads, it's red light cameras, or higher cigarette and liquor taxes, and even cola taxes. And, what do we get for our money? More crime, terrible roads, lousy schools. Until we stand up and throw the bastards out of office we're stuck with this crap! From this moment on, I'm not voting for a single imcumbent.

Daily Horoscope for December 5

Taurus

This is a day for turning your attention to your finances, especially if you're currently working on the budget for domestic improvements or changes. Talk to the other people concerned and really listen to what they're saying. They'll have some great insights. It will be far more productive to work as a harmonious team rather than as warring factions.
