$20 a seat? What the hell's wrong with you people?

What's the State, County, Town and Village plans about the high taxes and other extremely high costs it takes to start a business in our area?

There's not enough people in our area to offset the high costs of starting a small business in this rural setting.

Why choose Wayland over a more populated area where you know you'll have the business you need unlike Wayland where you know you may barely break even if you're lucky?

$20 a seat? Sounds like this is just a money-making scheme for Wayland Area Revitalization, Inc. and for any business featured at this forum.

Do Wayland residents get first priority to start a business over out-of-towners? If the answer is no, then this is a scam!

What's up with the property by the 390 bridge?
What about the CVS building that will soon be vacant?
What about the old Bumpers bar? That building is falling apart.
What about the building to the right of the Wayland Town Hall? Why are there people living in these buildings/stores where there should be businesses? Whose dumb idea was it to let that happen? What about the slum-area between the Wayland Post office and the bank?
Who wants to move here or start a business here when you have the State Police, County Deputies and the Village Cops all harrassing every-other passing motorist that goes into Wayland? There's not real crime here so they harrass motorists and pedestrians. That's why businesses are CLOSING in Wayland. No one wants to go out into town to be harrassed.
Wayland isn't going down the tubes. It's already in the sewer!

$20 covers some of the costs of providing refreshments and lunch, as well as some of the printing expenses involved.

To answer your question, Wayland Area Revitalization, Inc. is recognized by the IRS as a 501C3 non-profit organization. The goal of the organization is to bring people in our region together to address some of the reasons why it is difficult to do business in our REGION.

As to why choose the Wayland area, it's simple. All of the Board members are residents of the area. We all want to improve our way of life and bring jobs to this region. The Board is made up of business owners and citizens that reside in either Wayland or one of the surrounding towns. The Chairperson is Marian Crawford, the recently retired librarian from the Wayland Free Library.

This business forum will be bringing business resources from throughout Western NY to this area. There will be representatives from numerous organizations that assist businesses, both as speakers and at tables to talk to individuals directly. Until this event, we have had very little representation by any of these business assistance programs in our towns.
By bringing all of these different organizations under one roof, area business owners and people interested in starting a business can be introduced to at least 9 different organizations that help businesses plan, start or expand. This is a HUGE resource for any business!

Please review the mission statement of Wayland Area Revitalization at http://www.waylandarea.org/index.php... . This organization is not only for Wayland, but also for the surrounding towns and villages. My firm belief is that all of the towns and villages must work together in order to improve the business climate in our region and attract and retain businesses.

As for your other questions, there are limits to what any organization can do since many of these properties are privately owned. However, we have been investigating ways that we may be able to address many of these issues and some of the property owners have expressed interest in working with us.

Revitalizing our region requires time...and good revitaliztion needs input from citizens. Please email your concerns and ideas to improve things to info@waylandarea.org. I promise that the board will review your comments.

What planet are you living on if you think there's no "real crime" here? I guess rape, larceny, drug posession and sales, attempted homicide, getting robbed in your house by knife point, domestic violence, DWI....aren't real unless it's happening to you?!!! The troopers especially are just doing their jobs. Don't let a few power high pricks on the town PD and sherrif dept, ruin it for law enforcement as a whole---you'll find'em in every town, not just here.

Wayland is rediclous with cops. Wheres all these rapes and knife point robberys taking place? I SURE HAVEN'T HEARD OF ANYTHING IN THE NEWS. The town police are worthless. They do nothing more than direct school traffic and harrass people. Barney Phifes are what they are. I think we have enough cops with the Sheriffs and the warehouse full of troopers we have. These over weight slugs on the town pd wouldn't last a min. where there is REAL crime.

The rape happened last fall on Bush Ave. In Wayland-two ex-con brothers did it. The robbery at knife point happened about a month ago in Dansville. I have only lived her for a few years and in that time we've had a young boy in Springwater beaten to death by his mom's boyfriend while she was at work, an alligator in a near-by creek, a guy got shot at his front door over an appliance, myfriend's son found two bags of drugs in the boy's bathroom at our middle school (enough to be considered for sale, not recreation), I lost a friend to DWI, another to suicide...and so on. As far as the troopers....I personally looked into our local troopers’ barracks, and their duties. They cover: Sparta, Springwater, West Sparta, Ossian, North Dansville, Wayland, Village of Wayland (when the PD is not on), Dansville, Freemont, Howard, Cohocton, Village of Cohocton, Atlanta, North Cohcton, & Haskinsville. To cover all of this, there are 2 BCI, 2 Sergeants, and two crews of troopers. There is one crew of eight and one crew of nine troopers that cover the various shifts throughout each week. On any given 24 hour period, out of one of the crews, you have one trooper on the interstate, two of them on at night, two cover Livingston county, and that leaves three or four to cover Steuben county. That is IF they aren’t sent out on special assignment (i.e.; the Academy in Albany, or Rochester Impact), or no one has called in sick, taken personal leave or vacation time.
IT"S NOT MY FAULT YOU HAVEN"T HEARD ANYTHING--I suppose you should be reading a paper. I know a lot of these guys personally, and I don't appreciate your bashing and name calling, it's tantamount to not supporting our troops. Both put their lives on the line so ignorant pricks like you have the freedom to piss on them with your uninsightful rehtoric. You obviously weren't raised very well...

bunch of faggy wanna-be marines. There's only one trooper there that deserves any respect and thats only because he actually respects people himself. The rest could get gunned down for all I care

I agree "we need more buckys"!!! as far as you "proud rangers tramp" you are a real loser. Wow, we live in a "high" crime area, we better hire some more cops and run Wayland like a police state. Every body run for cover. Is that all you can come up with??? I bet you had to dig to come up with those big crimes. Ya your right,, the cops in Wayland have it much tougher than say,, Chicago or Dallas, or NYC, or LA. Your so stupid. Your worthless and you are the one not raised very well, moron.

To "we need more buckys" & "cooter". Can you read, or do you just lack the mental capacity to comprehend what you are reading? Either way, if you had a brain, you would get that I never said that we needed more law enforcement. I never compared the crime here to big cities. I never said we lived in a "high crime" area and I never said that there weren't any officers (troopers, pd, or sheriff) that weren't harrassing. I was just arguing the point that there IS some crime here, because other posts claimed that there wasn't any "real crime" at all. I didn't have to "dig" to come up with any of the crimes. It's a small town, it's kinda hard not to hear about. I even forgot a couple...my father-in-law's good friend's house got burned down and it was a suspected arson, and our Legion's First Vice was shot to death when he helped out a friend who was getting beaten up by her boyfriend (just last October). I also think that a few bad apples are giving law enforcers as a whole a bad rep. in our area, again, you'll find that anywhere. The power's been know to go to their head. But they are not Marine wanna be's and they don't under any circumstances deserve to get "gunned down". That's just uncalled for. When the hell did I say "everyone run for cover"? I didn't come up with that, your ignorant ass did. There is so much that goes on around here that no one knows about. That's because the "Barney Phife's" are out there doing their job before situations get out of hand and become news. Crime is not the only thing they handle. They are our first responders to emergencies. I pray you never need them, you might feel a little differently once they saved your life, or the life of someone you love. As far as you are both concerned, I am not going to keep up with this pissing match between us. It's a waste of time. In the grand scheme of things, it's not that important. You can call me what you want, it doesn't change a thing, just makes you look bad, not that you care. I'll be busy this week helping my friends get through burying their father who died as a result of an unexpected accident. My four trooper friends and their wives will be right there helping our friends cope with their unfortunate & heartbreaking loss. Life's too short for this shit...have a nice one

Dave Winters in Wayland got shot and killed when he tried to help a friend's girlfriend move her stuff out of her abuser's place...what rock do you live under that you don't hear about any of this. He was the First Vice at the Wayland Post #402 Legion. I type fast, so that didn't take long...again, can you read? I never said "not giving a shit" as you quoted me?

How does Dave winters getting killed in Rochester have anything to do with law enforcement here in Wayland??? I guess he should have stayed home and let Schumacher move her himself. I know more than you think moron. I was wondering about crime in Wayland, I didn't know I had to broaden my search to Rochester.

Wayland is a joke. The cops in Wayland are a joke. They have no idea what real crime is. The troopers have no idea how lucky they are to be stationed here compared to other places they could be where they would accually have to do there job and may really be in danger compared to this joke of a town. The Wayland PD is a complete joke. Over paid crossing guards are what they are. Volunteers can do what they do.

Troopers=They WILL pay a price for the insolence ,i just do not know when .But if they keep murdering innocent people and walking away as free men it will not be long .Remember people ,troopers for the most part are tax collectors with guns, and that is how this country was founded ,fighting against the tyranny of government .But they might start out with good ambitions ,but there pensions and ability to earn OT start with how much money they can earn the state .Why do you think they were involved with Spitzer and Spying on Bruno ,There was a deal worked out .Next time you see a trooper think about how they can murder innocent people at will with no regard to the public .Because its the truth .

TROOPERS=Brown shirts are under orders to bring as much revenue as possible to shore up there pensions. As sad as it is ,its the truth .And no one knows better then they do .So now as it goes it screw the public and hoorah for me.I mourn for the loss of innocent life and how they walk away from there crime. But the public is aware of there crimes and there will be a price to pay .The time is coming and there will be no remorse for what they have done.murdering tax collectors with guns .the public has awakened to what is happening and there will be retribution,it just a matter of when .

The troopers today are what they call brown shirts .thats hitler henchmen for you lay men . armed tax collectors is all they have become .the politicians do not have the balls to raise taxes any more so they use the long arm of the law to raise money in what I like to call a black tax .,I hope he has a family member killed by one of his own brown shirts .this is a travesty of justice and there will be a price to pay .

Yep, and when a Bucky Phillips thing happens, they love it. They really soak up the over time. I know a few that were brought up from Albany and they said they hoped it went on for months and he never got caught because they loved the money.
