Wait a second - Dearing was caught transporting 222 bags of heroin, and all he got was 15 days in jail and a $5000 fine? Clearly he's a dealer, so he can pay that fine from a day's work. I guess his arrest was just a temporary interruption to his drug trafficking enterprise.

222 bags obviously is trafficking! How on earth can they justify accepting a plea bargain down to possession? He'll be back in business the on day #16.

When it comes to law enforcement I guess doing the job right costs too much money, huh? In VT plea bargains and "released on conditions" are the way to go.

I agree that this is obviously trafficing. But I disagree that it is law enforcement that needs to change in this instance. Sounds like the courts/state problem.

I can see if he only had 2 bags, but 222??? That is way more than personal use there and yet, he only got 15 freaking days? Why does VT even have a penal justice system? They give child molesters and rapists the ever popular probation or 60 days and now this loser gets 15 days? He must be sitting on his bunk right now laughing his ass off at his good fortune and how long after he gets out do you think he will resume running drugs? Seeing as he just skated here, I predict that he will be back in business, but he just won't use 91, probably Rte 5 or NH 63. Now the trooper did his job right, it is the system that fails to do it's job in VT and no wonder all these criminals are moving up to VT, they are well versed in the lax and lame court system before they even cross the state line because all the other losers have spread the word. I know that in MI 222 bags of heroin constitutes an with intent to sell FELONY CHARGE and the person will get at least 7 1/2 years up to 20 years and this loser gets 15 days! Babyrapers get 60 days, but the guy down on his luck, homeless and hungry and steals food from Price Chopper will get at least 90 days! I am so glad I no longer live in VT and every time I read this paper I know why!!

Or he could have been the low guy on the totem poll...Vermont doesn’t have money to put him in jail. All the other criminals did a lot worst crimes than he did...this guys is little league?

Why should Vermont waste money on jailing him...he wasn’t causing damage in Vermont, just transporting it though? They’d get him on a parole violations.

Notice there wasn’t any mandatory drug treatment, probably not enough money for that too?

Heroin users are responsable for all sorts of crime to support their habits. The Judge should be removed from the bench for good.

this is a joke. WTF is wrong w/our state court system? unreal.
not sure about you guys but i'm sick and tired of Vermont being the laughing stock of the nation.

they go out of their way to cut a plea w/this goon, meanwhile, they try and go after the cops who used their tazer on the loser in Brattleboro. what a joke this state has become.

although the two situations are not at all simular. I am sure your friend did not mean anything by posting that on his profile. But think about it if he was serious and something did happen to his ex. Everyone would wish that something was done. I feel that everyone should take more responibility for there actions and their kids actions. People have not done that in a very long time and we wonder why these kids are growing up dealing drugs, doing drugs, committing crimes etc. If this doesn't pertain to you then lend a hand to someone in need of guidance. We all need to make this country a better place for ourselves and our kids. If you do the crime you need to do the time.
