Third-year teacher receives national award in English

She is the WORST teacher my son has ever had! She has NO control over her class. She is inaudibly, even when teaching. She does not use the text book, and refused to supply the handout work sheet information to parents. Most of her students would be so far behind at interm report time that the rest of the quarter was spent catching up. She is also VERY racist and sexist. She only wrote up boys, mostly white, but NEVER wrote up any of the black girls. I do not understand why awards are handed out to unqualified people. She should have gotten a pick slip, not an award.

To Class Mother - If you had such a problem with this young woman, I believe your issues should have been addressed when your child was in her class. If any of your allegations have any grounds, as an adult and parent, you should have made your concerns known so the issue could have been addressed when it occurred.

I find it very disrespectful that you would choose this time, this joyous moment in this young woman's career to slander her name. You're attempting to tarnish an achievement that is important to her, her school, and her community.

If after all this time you have such strong feelings about her, you should address them with her, face to face, like a respectable adult.

Our education system needs uplifting and support, especially in smaller schools. What it does not need is negativity, especially from people on the outside looking in.

To Puzzled - I did address all of my issues with her, the school
administration, and the district superintendent. I filed formal complaints.
I am still in contact with the district office and they are still
investigating complaints. Not just from me, but from other parents.
I too, am puzzled as to HOW she ever got this award. The criteria could not have based on classroom preformance.
As far as this being a joyous moment for her...why? She has not earned any
awards and should be ashamed of herself for taking an award that should have
gone to a deserving teacher.
Yes our schools need improvements, but rewarding substandard teachers is not
going to improve anything, In fact, it just puts our children, our schools,
and our community at a bigger disadvantage.
Also,I have first hand knowledge of her teaching skills, do you?
