2 So we can pay a bunch of jerks $25 an hour to stand around? This is why everything cost so much money and most businesses need to out source their work because of the worthless labor unions. It really gets me to see when they pave the roads and see 2 people working and the rest standing around. What gives the cops the right to harass a person trying to make a living. As long as they are registered with the state leave them alone. |

1 Excuse me, but if the "jerks" making a decent living wage of $25 an hour are just standing around and not doing their job, I believe that would be the fault of management. After all, as long as no one is forcing someone to actually "work", why would they? I'm sure if they had computers on the job site, they'd be writing commentary to the newspapers also. If the blacktop people were legit, they'd be registered with the state and follow the proper procedures for permits. If you don't want contractors obtaining permits, then I guess you have no objection to your taxes being raised since the $ must come from some source. |

Having a piece of paper (license) doesn't make you a good contractor! In many instances its another form used to fleece older customers into thinking they are getting a bargain job for the money; NOT!
I had my driveway resurfaced two years ago by someone that was paving in the area and they did not have a license; all they had were the two other resurfacing jobs being done in the immediate area. They gave me a price; I drove/walked to the two jobs currently in progress; liked what I saw and had mine done next. They actually did a superior job to the jerk that installed my original drive. Case closed. Its supposedly more of a protection thing to cut down on shabby wannabe contractors and probably does more good than harm; IMHO |

2 Why do you think it cost so much to drive in Pa? Because of the over paid union workers. Eariler in the year when George Street, Richland Street and Roosevelt. These streets might have been maybe 2 miles of surface but yet it cost around $900,000 for the job. A bunch of over paid jerks. I bet a overpiad union worker rated them out. All labor unions need to be shut down. |

The contracting company wasn't the one who approved the expenditure. Complain to those making the decisions to hire the contractor instead of blaming "union labor" for the costs. Your only right to complain about the labor would be if the the job was never finished. |

1 No they were all KINSLEY projects. All the projects he touches go over budget take longer than they should and all are crappy. Oh and he is NON UNION. |

If it's a state job the wages are set in the contract. You have to pay the people what the contract says so if the contract says $13/hr for a flagger that's what the company has to pay them. I can tell you this. It costs a whole lost less money for PENNDOT to use state workers to do that job. When you hire contractors your paying for the CEO's boats, airplanes and mansion plus all the other expenses.

Good question! |
||||
"if the "jerks" making a decent living wage of $25 an hour are just standing around and not doing their job, I believe that would be the fault of management."??? Excuse me but no, particularly if it is the case of union employees! Wtih unions today there are alot of times when management CAN NOT tell the union workers what to do! |
||||
Actually, for public road projects like you mention its going to be the same price whether is union or not due to the prevailing wage rules. |
