3 I've known John Agenbroad since 1987. I've been at lots of Veterans ceremony's where he has been the speaker. I have never heard John say that he has a Silver Star and don't beleive that he has ever said he has one. I think that this is politics at its dirtiest and think someone should be held libel. John Agenbroad is a True Patriot not a Wanabee. |

3 Mr. Blair...I do not understand your implication that there are dirty politics involved. I researched Mr. Budd's story in the DDN back to chron.com ( Chicago Tribune) and would suggest that you do the same before you go into a tirade. The Chicage Tribune have referred to 333 people whose profiles have been researched and they are documenting that these people have falsified their profiles on the Who's Who publication. They are further documenting a look at an additional 273 obituaries that have been published in the past 10 years and have found that four out of five people have falsely misrepresented their official military records. Mr. Agenbroad was reflected as one of them in the two documented articles. I would think that the Springboro City Council will be conducting their own investigation and discussions with Mr. Agenbroad. As again the Tribune article documents that their is in fact a 2007 law that makes it a federal crime to falsely claim, verbally or in writing, that one has earned a medal for valor. Both Mr. Budd and Mr. Crewsdon of the Chicago Tribune received a comment from Mayor Agenbroad that you should review Mr. Blair before BLOWING OFF about dirty politics. Let the Springboro City Council and the FBI continue with due diligence in their investigations and you should keep politics out of it by not tying your name to it. |

1 Other folks are saying that they have heard Mr. Agenbroad state in public places that he has earned the silver medal during his tour of duty...validating the Tribune and DDN stories. If anyone has further input or knowledge to this effect...please let us know. |

3 I would hope and demand that the Springboro City Manager, the 6 members of Springboro City Council and the appropriate law enforcement agencies along with Mayor Agenbroad will be issuing their findings to the accusations. Claims of medals amount to stolen valor Dale Messmer, an anti-drug lecturer, falsely claimed a Navy Cross—"to my undying shame," he says. War heroes, he says, don't need to brag. "I've learned that most guys who have done that sort of thing, they don't talk about it." Michael Roshkind, a former senior executive at Motown Records, said he had awarded himself the Navy Cross "to make myself a hero to my wife, or something like that. I'm not proud of that, but it's history." Asked whether he intended to contact Who's Who and correct his biography, Roshkind replied: "Why would I do that? I have no interest in that." A man from Issaquah, Wash., who acknowledged falsely claiming the Navy Cross said he couldn't explain why. Then he offered this insight: "I did it for my own self-gratification," said James William Massick, who owns a heavy-equipment manufacturing company. Top excuses for unverified medals of valor One of the most common responses among those contacted by the Tribune was that they had no idea their Who's Who profiles claimed medals for valor they did not hold. Others responded by hanging up the phone or maintaining that they in fact had earned the medals. But none provided to the Tribune proof in the form of a military document or an actual medal. In addition, Who's Who officials were able to show the Tribune annual updates in which many of these men signed and returned profiles verifying their bogus claims to the medals in question. "I do not believe any of these people are going to admit what they did," said Who's Who publisher James Pfister. "But I know Who's Who never puts data in the awards section unless it comes from the listee." For its listings, Who's Who says it relies on information furnished exclusively by its "biographees," included by invitation on the basis of past achievement or future promise. Biographees complete extensive personal histories and are given the chance to check their profiles before they appear in print. Once a year they receive an update form in which they can correct errors or add new accomplishments. Some of the biographies described exploits that could not have occurred, such as a man who claimed the Distinguished Service Cross in Vietnam for having rescued men from a burning truck near Khe Sanh, when his military records showed he was a clerk-typist stationed in Hawaii. Another man claimed to have earned a Silver Star during the 1968 Tet Offensive--a time, according to the birth date in his Who's Who profile, when he was 14 years old. John Agenbroad, the four-time mayor of Springboro, Ohio, whose profile in Who's Who credited him with one Silver Star, spoke in several interviews with the Tribune about the medal. Asked if he owned that decoration, he initially replied, "Yes, I do." But his military records list no Silver Star. And Agenbroad, who has campaigned on his war record, later acknowledged he didn't have one. He said he was unaware he was in Who's Who and didn't recall sending information to the publisher. How did he explain the Who's Who entry? "I have absolutely no answer for that," he said. "I don't know why I would do that, but obviously I did." Agenbroad has since sent a letter to Who's Who asking that his biography be modified to delete the medal, according to Who's Who. ould be made much easier. |

3 Time to go>> It is for integrity, not to mention honesty and this City Council are all ELECTED OFFICIALS...they desire and seek these positions to serve the people. It is their RESPONSIBILITY to be in tune with the truth. I assure you this community will be watching during their regularly scheduled council meeting on Nov. 6. Many of us are researching other avenues and I would like to point out one web site that illustrates how rampant this problem is. It illustrates why Mayor Agenbroad needs to state the truth as an elected official leading the City of Springboro. I would certainly expect the Council Members to uphold the integrity of their offices and demand answers and the TRUTH. http://www.pownetwork.org/phonies/phonies.htm WE ARE TALKING ABOUT STOLEN VALOR, PHONIES AND WANNABE'S THIS IS NOT WHAT I VOTED FOR WHEN I CAST MY VOTE FOR THE MAYOR IN NOV. 2007 |

1 So it's pretty much business as usual with the City Council? If that happens...and this Council doesn't demand answers and or the truth...it will certainly be making a strong statment and is a form of condonement and DRAWS BIG TIME QUESTIONS TO THEIR CHARACTER as well. Stay tuned. Doesn't the City Council have a legal committee composed of residents and city staff along with council members that oversee? |

1 you're exactly right. John is like a god in this community. one of the council members is his next door neighbor. another received campaign dollars from John when she ran for reelection last year. you won't find the council as a whole do anything. your best bet to actually speak up AT the council meeting. besides, John said in the paper when he finds out the whole story, he would have a statement. |

1 Then he should make an updated statement saying where he is at in his investigation. The Tribune Articles date back a week since they appeared and it's been 5 days since the coverage in the two local newspapers and almost a week since the story appeared in the DDN. He owes his colleagues on council along with the city staff not to mention the citizens of Springboro an update. It's always been my experience...when nothing is said it is almost always an admission of guilt. The hope is that people will forget. So, again Mayor make some type of statement to the people who have entrusted you to lead the City of Springboro |
