Todays news included a comment by our fire chief that he needed at least 8 more firefighters. Our WISE??? mayor said there were no funds. Is that not one of the reasons for renewing the SH Property tax to add addtional police and firemen. The imposed tax was to fully fund those addtions

Hi,
I read that some or all of the funds to hire the firemen were going to come from a grant.(?)Otherwise, SH does not have the funds to hire on their own.

It sounds simplistic, but what could the city do to raise the funds needed OTHER THAN RAISING TAXES, so they could fund hiring new personnel.I am not a businessperson but someone out there should come up with a good way to raise the money needed.

I agree that they (more firemen) are needed. What is more important than having someone 24/7/365 to save property and lives? Nothing is more important, that's what.
As long as I have to pay higher taxes now, it should go for the high priority items.

Who else are you going to rely on when your house catches fire, Heavens forbid.Lack of a fully staffed dept. can result in delays that could translate into loss of property or worse.

Now, hopefully, this grant will come through if the Mayor makes it known to whoever makes the grant, that we need the additional personnel.
The SH fire dept have great response times as far as I am concerned, not to mention that these guys are putting their own lives on the line to save others. They should be highly commended, and given the resources and personnel they need to do the job.
Take care,
tomtom

Just don't hire any Fire Fighters from Lewisburg. I know one that will start seeing another woman while he is married, Then She( Lives in Spring Hill) will keep seeing him until he is divorced and THEN act holier than though to her family and make them believe he was already divorced but wasn't. He just up and left his wife and 2 children. Have not spoke to the children in 6 months. Oh yea, He mows yards on the side in the summer. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!! He is a Snake in the grass!!!!!!!!!! Ask any of the firefighters in Lewisburg, they will tell you. He is smoothhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

We have a fine city, before taking on the added firemen (or women) which are really NOT needed we should think aout our water system and wast systems.

Then some added bikeways and walkways

Spring Hill/Maury County seems to always follow the Federal Government when they have more money going out than they have coming in. Only difference, we can't print money or borrow money we can't afford to repay.

They tell us that the only solution is to raise taxes.

I remember the SH leaders telling us that we would be in danger of loosing firemen or other popular city employees if they didn't raise taxes.

They never volunteer to talk about the other less pressing things like parks, salaries/benefits of workers and elected officials.

When will city officials run the city's business like we all have to run our personal household business.

The government didn't give SS folks a cost of living raise this year. Wonder if City/County employees got a raise.

For some reason; the day they are elected, they change. They soon forget about us and refuse to consider making the hard decisions that are unpopular with their brotherhood of city employees.

I have worked for a local government as a Fireman in another state and was a manager for many years in industry. I know that every manager feels he/she must take care of their employees. Our elected or appointed folks need to reconsider your decisions. You are there to serve the folks rather your fellow workers.

We are tapped out and are are struggling. Do your job and control spending in good times as well as bad ones. If you really cut spending (Not like the government's pending Spending Freeze) we will have plenty money for the next time something bad happens.

Resident SH.

If our leaders followed the logic in your note they would apply for the grant today.

Hopefully, they realize that the rest of us can see through this scheme before they make this huge mistake.

If they hire the 8 firemen on the strength of getting 2 years of the salaries from the Fed Gov stimulus package, where do you think the funds will come from in two years after the grant money runs out. Maybe we could just give China a call or even better, we could just print some money.

This isnt like some of the college students loans where they can repay or not, as they see fit.

The future salaries of the 8 will come out of the 2012 budget which will make us run short by approximately $400,000.00 or whatever their salaries/benefits end up being.

Your kind of budgeting is what gets communities and countries in the bind we are in today. Commit to spending today without planning how to repay tomorrow.

Mr Mayor and Aldermen/Alderwoman:

Please dont apply for this grant until you have set aside at least the 2012 salary for the 8 and a plan for it each year thereafter.

Otherwise, nothing will change and we already know what will come next.

We will be told that unless we raise taxes one more time, we will have to lay off Policemen, Firemen and School Teachers. Seems like I heard that before. Ummmmmm, Maybe not.

City employees did not get a cost of living raise or any kind of raise in 2009 or 2010.
