Once again I read HT and another story on a toddler being severely beaten, it makes me sick.
Child had to be air lifted to St.Pete as local hospital couldn't handle the trauma. Two weeks ago the mother's boyfriend beat a toddler to death. I was told HC leads the state of Florida in domestic abuse. It sure seems that way. How many stories in the last year have there been on this subject. |

Yes, Joanne the abuse goes on and on, kids having kids and not mature enough to handle it, they want to be out having a good time, instead of babysitting. Lots of anger in these boys, they got caught, now they have to pay the price. Very sad that an innocent child has to suffer.

The "father" is 23 and he got angry because the child was crying. I am going to guess and say not married.
I am sick of this and it is very frequent here. If it isn't abuse it is neglect. Like the one who let her 2yr old wonder off while she was at a party at a friend's house and the child drowned in the neighbors pool. She had two kids by with two different guys. For God's sake put them up for adoption. |

I doubt it if HC leads the State in domestic abuse. I was just in NYC and read stories worse. About a kid who was placed in a bathtub and simply beaten to death. This is the monsters that are inhabiting humanity these days. Here, there, everywhere. How about the Muslin father who killed his daugther because she was too "westernized". That wasnt here eiter, but stop thinking its Hernando County. If it is so bad why are you still here? |
||||
|
I'm not going to argue with you. HC has a lot of lowlifes. More than it should considering only 160,000 people live here.
There is a lot of child abuse and child neglect here. And I have never seen so many unwed mothers walking around. Very rare you see a young woman with kids and a ring on her finger. FL-in known as the land of the nearly dead and the unwed. |
||||
|
I am not going to argue either, yes, HC has a lot of "lowlifes"
but so does everywhere. Not a whole lot of people are in good financial shape these days. There is a lot of child abuse and child neglect everywhere. It is not unique to Hernando County. The un wed mother thing is also a national problem. Created by the "give them the world" philosphy of JFK and his predecessors. If you have a kid out of wedlock it means $$$ in benefits. Lots of them. Married and kid equals nothing. So, they do the "smart" thing. I have lived in FL most of my life. I have never heard it referred to as "the land of the nearly dead and the unwed" You are another one who rather just end with "I am not going to argue" instead of supporting your position. To me that means you have no basis for your complaint except personal feelings. You also never answer questions poised such as "Why are you still here?"

Sigh. I have posted in the past my husband and I are looking to leave HC. We currently have on our block alone two foreclosures and four homes for sale.
That is just on one block. It is pretty much the same on every street. I am just pointing out that this area has gone downhill at alarming rate. There are still many nice areas(we are in one) but the handwriting is on the wall. Due to the many homes that have become rental properties(not in our area as of yet) your getting more lower class lowlifes in here. This isn't the 1800s where you can just load up the wagon and go....LOL...property needs to be sold, loose ends tied up,etc. You don't want to hear anything negative about the area. We had friends visit last year and I have posted this before they said" what happened here?"...they noticed all the rundown properties along SHD. They noticed a huge change in two years. Do you think as a homeowner and taxpayer I am thrilled about it? Of course not, but I'm not going to pretend it doesn't exist. Now Section 8 housing is coming in. I never said that these problems were unique to HC but there is more and more of it. If you went back 10 yrs ago, to what we have today there has been a huge change in the type of resident this area is attracting. |

Joanne, we both see the writting on the wall, how come we can see all the changes around us, yet, others can't? Are they in denial that the land of their birth is going into the dumpster and they don't want to admit this? Yesterday a friend of mine went to Pinehurst Ave. to look at a 4/2/2 on a corner lot, the price $39,000, all appliances were removed and the place needed new carpet/tile throughtout, they said it was a fantastic deal, and were going to see if they could get financing. This home once sold for $184,000 and the bank only wants $39,000, people walked away. They say that the bottom hasn't fallen here in Hernando Cty yet, that it will still go lower, at that rate, I'd have to pay someone to take my home. LOL Spring Hill was once a very nice community, lawns were cut, people took pride in what they worked hard to get, now I've seen people buying low, throw carpet in or a bucket of paint, and there is the for sale sign again. House across the street is a short sale, priced $60,000 less than what he paid, and not one looker so far. He's going to lose the house, and theres another one empty. House on corner, he was frantic to get out of here, didn't notify anyone he was leaving, left the water on, electric, cable, left town without paying any bills either, he even took the Belgian Block around his plants in the yard......another one gone. When will it end, I don't have a crystal ball, as you said you just can't throw things in the car and leave, everyones situation is different, you know whats best for you and your situation, mine is a little different so I will know when the time is good to go. I'm sure that there will be people here that will throw us a party to leave, along with our opinions. LOL |

Its not just Hernando County. Its all over Florida.More and more people are feeling the downfall of our economy. Its such a sad situation all over our country. JOanne if you leave Hernando county I do not think it will be better else where. Its just the world we live in today. Rememeber every one has a different situation. I think people forget to count their blessings and get in a downhill swirl.

I cant disagree that there has been a down turn in the County as a whole. Especially in Spring Hill. That is no doubt. Also have to agree with Ellie. Visit any other city/county in the U.S.A. today and you will find the same things you see here in good ole' Hernando County. But you also have to look and see the anticipated recovery/growth of the area. Be patient, the country is in a depression. Recovery is still a little off. Probably 3-5 years. Get used to further decay. Its emminent. The bottom of the housing market was already hit and home sales nationwide are on the uptick. Most analysts provide that is due to the tax break and the extreme low cost of homes.
The lower the cost of the home, the lower the taxes. Oh, by the way. On Long Island a relative pays as much in taxes PER MONTH as you do in Spring Hill PER YEAR. |
||||
|
Unfortunately, the whole world is "in the dumpster". The bottom of the housing market has been reached. Home sales are up, not flat. Prices are down, banks/mortgage holders have to clean out the inventory. Its too expensive to pay the taxes and insurance on a property that you cant sell. Obviously you are in an extremeley depressed area with so many people "walking away" from houses and so many in foreclosure. That means the people who were there couldnt pay their bills to begin with.
|
||||
|
The people who come here come because it is better than where they are now. Why would you say all these houses are in forecousre and for sale? Investors or people who lost a job or couldnt afford the house in the first place? Alarming rate? Drama.
It used to be nice. Too many came to reap too little.

HC has been epecially hard hit. HC is the top 2% of counties across the country when it comes to foreclosures.
Ellie, we are looking at NC where our son, DIL, and granchild live. Our daughter and her husband our looking to leave Long Island are also looking at NC. Your right everyone has a different situation, and we have evalutated ours. We don't need or use the pool or need the amount of land we have. A 2 bed/ 2 bath condo in a nice area that offers more culture would suit us fine. I am enjoying this cooler weather...finally. We have no family here. Don't want to end up like our neighbors in their 80s and all alone with no family around. I agree, I agree awhile back there was a house on Deep Creek I believe going for 55K, my husband thought we should be buy it as an investment.....LOL. Investment....not likely. That wasn't going to happen. I said to do what with it? Rent it out....so you have to worry about dirtbags destorying the place...at our age....I don't think so. I want to simpifly at this point. HC was fine for several years and I put up with I didn't like. When people start coming in and buying houses for 40k and throw down carpet, not a good sign. |

I hear North Carolina is nice. I dont blame you. Its hard not to be around family. My parents are getting older and thank GOD my sister takes care of them. I only wish I was closer. They have been so good to us and its hard to see them get older and not be closer. Joanne life is short enjoy it and dont get drawn in by negativity.

I was up in Charlotte, NC I couldn't wait to get out of there, the road congestion and the area was not for me. I stopped in Greenville, SC and fell in love with the place, quiant cobblestones streets, street cafes, museums, BMW factory, city park with waterfalls, and the people were sooo helpful from the front desk of the hotel, to the waitstaff at Chic-Fil-A, I enjoyed my time there.
I don't like the fact that you have to pay a car tax every year, its actually a road tax in both SC and NC if you have more than one car, it can cost you a few hundred dollars. There water is very expensive, triple what it is here, and there gas is expensive. I know that if your in a deed restricted community they are very strict about the rules, moreso than here, which could be a God sent. I've heard that Cary, NC is very nice, haven't been there but relatives have said its really nice. |

Well I am also a believer in when "you go cheap you get cheap"....for example if you need decent healthcare or have a health situation you at least need to go to Tampa.
Something people need to keep in mind as we get older, you don't want to live in an area with substandard healthcare. It is better to be in an area that has a university teaching hospital. My husband has been seeing a doctor at USF, two appts in two weeks. It is a long haul to go see a doctor. A lot of people don't consider healthcare when they move here. They get older and sick and HC doesn't have the best care. I wouldn't want to live in Charlotte either, we have looked in Ashville. |

Yes, I agree with you again, healthcare is a very important consideration. I had a relative that needed surgery he had the best in Tampa General, the operation was a success but the patient died is what they told me.
Had a friend go to Spring Hill Regional for emergency in there 2 hrs. bill was $9,888.38 two weeks later same person went back in for same problem that bill was $8,788.00 for about 3 hrs. Luckily they had insurance but still had to pay a co-pay. Many big companies are cutting benefits and one is health care. Naturally, as we age we want good health care, but from what I've seen here in HC, you just hope and pray that those they treat us, know what the hell their doing. |

If the pesident gets his way healthcare is going to change tremendously, especially if you are getting older. Something to think about if you are planning to relocate.

1 Investors. That is why. Did you realize the taxes in Long Island are 12 x higher than here. 12 x! NC could be nice, but watch out. You may be relocating to another boom town and all your nightmares may repeat themselves. Once a place booms it usually develops problems. Look at Orlando.
