We lived in Post Falls at the time. Our new baby daughter was just two years old. As a new mother, I was shaken by Nanette's murder. Each time our baby girl was playing on our front step, I shuddered with fear. She was doing her job, at a terrible time of day, just a sitting duck. The bulletins and announcements on TV reminded us that the predator was still out there, and maybe she was still alive while those bulletins were being broadcast. Innocence struck down at a terrible time of day. I don't live there any more. The NBC Dateline story about Mr. Coe's fabulous luck with our justice system looks as though he will go to McNeill Island instead of returning to Spokane to finish his work. Shelly Monahagn and the single rape victim who went on national TV are brave souls indeed. I never knew if they caught the beast who killed little Nanette. Why wasn't it widely reported? It was such an emotional case. I lived there another 10 years after that. When did they catch him?

They did catch the monster that did this to Nanette and her family. Her family has never got over this and never will. He is still in prison and will never get out. I believe that they caught him within a matter of weeks. What a small world that we live in. Nanette was my cousin and I was only 9 years old when this happened. My best friend was talking about this one day and I learned that she and Nanette went to school together and were really good friends. I hope that it helps everyone to know that this monster is still in prison.

What happened to Candy Rogers? I don't remember hearing about that.
Spokane Police Detective Brian Hamond believes he knows where to look for the man who raped and murdered 9-year-old Candice Elaine Rogers 49 years ago.

Hamond is confident the killer is named in the case files his predecessors assembled in the year after Candy Rogers was abducted while selling Camp Fire mints near her home.

BTW - My son goes to Holmes, and I always think of Candy when I go there to pick him up or bring him home. She went to Holmes.

Can you tell me what school Nanette was attending when she was killed? I might have known her. I have never forgotten this horrible event. It really shook me up when it happened.

Speaking of old Murders in Spokane, does any one remember the nurse that disappeared on her way to work at Deaconess Hospital in the NICU in 1977? I believe her husband was a disc jockey for a radio station in Spokane. I remember this because I was working at Deaconess at that time. Her car was found parked down the street in the area I parked and every day I would look at the apartments around there and wonder who grabbed her off the street. It was scarry.... For awhile they suspected her husband but nothing came of it. Was this ever solved? Was her body found? Or is she still missing?
Was the husband's name Monte Anderson(?) If I remember right, she was found in the back yard, under the compost pile, husband was charged,

Hi, not sure who this is, but I am also her cousin, actually her second cousin. Roxy is my cousin. I'm a Martin. I know that Thomas Marht went from the Walla Walla prison to the Monroe facility, now he has moved again and can't remember where he is at now. I keep tabs on him. Anyway, so glad he is still locked up.

This is Bridgett. Who are you, "Also her cousin"? Thomas Marht was at Airway Heights Correction Center for awhile, now he is at the Stafford Creek Corrections Center. No worries, he will never get out. The public can rest and know that this is one MONSTER that will never walk the streets.

The man that committed this horrible murder was caught, prosecuted and jailed. Thank god for the lanlord that came forward with evidence or we may have been searching forever. I was her cousin and we were the same age, in fact our birthdays were just days apart. We were planning our birthday together when she disappeared. I will never forget searching for her and then being told they found her body in multiple garbage bags and the way that she was murdered. I will also never forget the way that he looked or his voice when he turned around and told my aunt at trial that he would do it again. This tragedy in my life and the life of my family will never be forgotten. Her mother is gone now, but she never forgot our wonderful Nan.

I was her cousin by marriage. Her stepdad is my cousin. Nan and I spent time together since our birthdays were so close, we were the same age and had lots in common. I am glad to hear that he is still locked up and appreciate the information on where he is. I have wondered if our system would have ever let him out. The recent news information about a convict escaping that was later caught in the spokane area made me think of him again.

In austin, Texas sometime in mid 1976 or 1977, a young girl, about 12 years old was brutally murdered. Her body was found in a wooded area just south of Gillis Park near Oltorf and South 1st. I was very young at the time, but I believe she was a distant cousin. I think the last name was Leyva. Does anyone remember anything about it?

I worked at the facility when he was at Airway Heights Correction Center. He was there for 3 years right under my nose. I didn't even know it. I was given the wrong spelling of his name. As soon as I found out, I reported it to my supervisor and he was moved to Stafford Creek.

I remember this as well since Nan was my cousin. I was four years old at the tim but I remeber her. We were a close family and spent alot of time together. I am now 38 and just researching because the family as you can imagine is not extremely forthcoming on all the details. I know that until that day, our family played on the streets and walked wherever we wanted to and that changed immediately. I would appreciate any links or information I can get.

I remember this so well. I had a 12 year old daughter at the time and I was in the SCC nursing program doing my rotation at Valley Hospital. It freaked me out because during the days that the girl was missing we were driving right by Dollar road on Trent where the house was located. This guy who killed and raped that little girl was the son of a man who owned a well known print shop on Spague Avenue near downtown. He had called the police about some complaint (or maybe it was his landlord) and while there the police man spotted some pictures on his mantle and realized they were pictures of the girl, posed after she had died. My heart just ached for this little girl and the terror and pain she must have experiened before he killed her. And I though how that could have been my daughter. Needless to say, we were not as safe in Spokane as I thought. We know that now today but then we thought we were safe. He was a sick puppy and hopefully he is still locked up.

I was informed that he was released years ago. Apparently this may not be true. As I said I am just now researching. Back in the Spokane area and my own daughter is 13. Kandi, I will call you. Didn't know that you were still thinking about this. Hope that she is at peace and he is in a hell of his own making.

My mom and dad lived on Nanette's paper route. Their house was the last one she delivered to. Her coward of a killer dumped her paper bag in my parent's shed in their back yard. My mom was 9 months pregnant with my older sister. The morning Nanette was reported missing, the police came with every intent of locking up my father forever. They searched their house high and low looking for clues to arrest him. After they found the newspaper bag, they took my dad right in for questioning. We as a family are so lucky for the landlord of this dirt bag! If it weren't for the landlord coming forward with evidence, I could have never been born, as my father could have been falsely convicted of this tragic crime and would have been locked up forever. This is too close for comfort for me! I think about this all of the time and it just makes you realize how unjust the justice system CAN be. In this case, justice really worked....only by chance, however!
