Having grown up in southern CT and being used to the world-class pizza of NYC and New Haven, my wife and I certainly didn't expect to find the same quality pies in the Berkshires. We did hope, however, to find a restaurant that served at least decent pizza - this long-term quest recently led us to try Fresco's Wood Fired Pizza in Pittsfield. Alas, the search for a decent pizza continues. My wife and I ordered the basic "very hard to mess up" tomato and cheese pie - simply put, it was horrible. Overladen with too much cheese, the pie had barely any tomato sauce on it, and what sauce there was, was flavored with far too much oregano. Add an underdone crust that was anything but crisp (as a wood fired pie should be) and you have a recipe for an unpleasant eating experience. This pizza was among the worst that I've had over a five year period in the Berkshires - truth be known, most frozen pies are better.
I honestly don't know why anyone would rate this pizza as being remotely near good...certainly not worth the 30 mile round trip that we made to taste this cardboard wonder. |

I cannot understand why anyone would either recommend or make a repeat visit to Fresco's in Pittsfield. The pizzas, wings, and garlic bread, which I observed being served to diners, were all burnt. I had never seen wings served like that and cannot believe that diners were accepting this.
Also..the pesto pasta dish was swimming in oil and the marinara sauce was tasteless on the chicken parm. And..if you do plan on going...be prepared not to be able to even hear your companion...the tables are too wide and the music is cranked up sooo loud, there's no way you can hear anything else. Also..when you walk in, there's no one to greet you, yet you're supposed to magically know that you need to personally log in the book if you want a seat. This place has been open for awhile now...and, in our opinion, they haven't got it! No returning for us. We can't imagine them being open and busy for that long unless they make some changes. Sad. |

Agree with the summary comment of Jersey Girl. The first thing Frescos needs to change beside the food is getting rid of the tables and chairs that you have to be a mountain climber to be seated. Great for young athletic types but for older folks with bad knees...not so much.

To eat or not to eat that is the question.
Just cooked up some yummy kraft mac and cheese. mmm, I should open up a mac n' cheese restaurant, add some Tiny Tim music,Add a few card tables, bring your own chairs. add a bingo nite, poof instant success. After making oodles of money I'll check em out. |

To Dollenamor:
Try Hot Tomatoes Neapolitan Pizza at 542 Tyler St. in Pittsfield. A bit pricey, but absolutely delicious and well worth the price. Also very good (crust is great) is South Street Pizza at 148 South in Pittsfield. Don't know if Elizabeth's Restaurant (1264 East St., Pittsfield, still serves pizza, but its "white" pies were to die for. |
