Maybe if they dropped the tuition long ago they won't have to close now.

I REALLY KNOW THIS IS TRAGIC, AND ESPECIALLY FOR THE STUDENTS WHO HAVE BONDED WITH OTHER PEERS, AND TEACHERS, PRAYERS GO OUT TO ALL.

St. Andrews closing puts another dagger into that depressed neighborhood....

St Margaret Mary is a wonderful school, it's an absolute shame to have it closed.

I agree. If tuition was cheaper, my children would all attend Catholic School.

By Closing St. John's in Spencerport, a school that has maintained a level of enrollment over the last 7 years, our fearless bishop has closed out options for Catholic education in Western Monroe County. Driving the 10 miles to Greece is like driving from Webster into Irondequoit for a school, which isn't a pleasant option.
Way to go bish Clarke...please resign tomorrow as you have shown to be a failure.

thank you Bishop Clark, as you depart for your vacation we will be explaining to our children why you are closing thier schools. As many of us have never taken a vaction due to the fact we valued a Catholic Education for our kids. So that was our vacation! But, don't worry you just go and relax!!

You have made a Catholic Education a thing of the past.

They didn't even have enough decency to prepare a different letter for the teachers who have sacrificed so much.
They were handed the same letter that says "Dear Catholic School Parents and Guardians" at the top. How disrespectful. These wonderful people are losing their jobs and now don't even know anything but what was included in that letter. What about their health insurance, pensions, contracts? All questions we would want answered if our jobs were cut.
Shame on DOR! Hiding behind the cloak of the church.
You will never get another dime of my money.

One more thing:
I wish Bishop Clark and his task force were at my house when I had to comfort my unconsolable child this afternoon after he heard the news that the only school that he has known since preschool was on the list. He is devestated!

It is a sad day when Catholic schools are told to close due to poor enrollment. Maybe if the priests are allowed to speak against abortion and birth control on the pulpits there would have been more children to attend these schools and they would not have had to close.

I am so saddened to hear that Holy Trinity in Webster will close. Children in north eastern Wayne county are now forced into public schools while those closer to St Rita's will be duking it out with others in Irondequoit for a place there. How sad it is especially given that a new multimillion dollar building addition is nearly complete on the school.
If only the federal government could have pushed through the voucher program. We here in Western NY need that more than ever in order to make private school a realistic option.
At least, in the end, our children are resilient. I pray that my daughter will not cry, as I do, because her school, the same school her great grandmother attended, is closing forever.

If you think this is bad, just wait to see how the rest of our society crumbles in the upcoming years. We are positioned for a major economic and social correction. I fear what the future holds for my children and gandchildren

With all the talk about the kids losing good catholic schools, let's not forget how many jobs will be lost because of this. I am Catholic and my kids attend religious education classes and church. If tuition had been affordable, I would have sent my kids to Catholic schools. But with the taxes so high as it is, an additional tuition payment is hard in this day in age! We can thank Bishop Clark and we can also thank our "wonderful" President.

Well the deed is done. The students get it, the teachers get it. I said this a few years ago at one of the schools when Sr. Meeghan talked about the "plans".

I said, this will kill more schools.(she said..oh no, this will infuse much needed life into the schools especially All Saints)

More tuition=less students

Now they drop tuition (or did they? check that closely) and make the schools a lot less convenient.

Forget Brockport, GONE
Forget Spencerport,GONE
As one poster said, it's now too far away for a hour bus ride for each child each way.

Sienna in rather rich Brighton..oh my that's still in business... what a surprise.

The WIN Schools, in general GONE.

I expected no sympathy, I got none. The teachers all start looking for work now or leave the field.

The ones who sacrificed for years making less money were decidedly doing it for the LORD. Because they were certainly NOT doing it for the DOR... who shafted them (and us) one very last time.

This was disappointing, but not surprising. Again,,, WHY DID THE SUPERINTENDENT QUIT ABOUT A MONTH OR SO AGO.

Love to know that.

So we move on.

I have a child that is a senior in a catholic high school. I am very happy with the education she has recieved and bless every penny that has been put into the education. I feel sorry for these families that have children attending these schools but I also feel sorry for the faculty as they will be losing their jobs. What is Rochester coming to! No wonder people are leaving NY. I myself have been waiting for our child to graduate and we will be leaving NY. There is no future in NY anymore!

My heart and prayers go out to the families and teachers affected by todays announcement. My daughter's elementary school (St. Helen's) was closed a few years ago, but we were blessed that she was the last graduating class. She now has to watch the Jr. High that she attended (All Saints) close too. I am ashamed of the DOR and their mis-management of their most precious resource, the Catholic school system. My daughter has only benefitted from her years in a Catholic school and I consider myself lucky that she is now at Aquinas and our from under the Bishop's thumb. What kind of message is he sending the the faithful Catholic parishoner?

Oh great, now we Rochesterians can send our kids to the city school district where there is a 39% graduation rate! Thank you "Bishop" Clark for giving the children of Rochester a future. Next time you make a decision, don't let it stem from how much you and the Diocese have in your wallets.

I didn't see the newscast. Did they say how much they are lowering tuition by? Are the other elementary schools suppose to absorb the displaced students?

What about the teachers? I heard that they didn't send letters to the teachers. They just sent letters to the parents. I feel bad for the teachers who now have no job or benefits. Very Sad situation!

While we are all angry is the time to get working. This is simple economics, too many families can not pay both high school taxes and tuition. School Choice needs to be an organized (from the DOR) demand made by all Catholics to our government. I pray there are enough voting Catholics to overcome the power of the teacher's unions. This needs to be organized from the diocese, and it needs to start now, to be ready for November's elections. NO MORE SCHOOLS NEED TO CLOSE!
