what do people think of the Roane County Animal Shelter?

I like the shelter, its a good thing they are there for the animals.

There's smoke coming from the furnace 24/7 if that tells you anything.

If you ask me it's a good thing.....except the animal control officer who is paid by taxpayers.....you and I Never at the shelter.. But you can find him running around with the HEAD deputy you asked

They are amazing with there animals. my aunt works there and i help sometimes. They are clean and healthy. Very healthy animals.

Smoke rolling from the place hmmm?? whats is that suppose to mean.. I know they cremate dogs for people who have to have there animals put to sleep at the vets, which is so sad! I have personly been there and the staff they have working there now is awesome and they are doing extremely well adopting the animals and sending them to rescue groups who care for them. I for one am glad the shelter is there too many stray animals running around and if the shelter was not there we would have even more! they have some really cute dogs up there.. so sad people just dump them the way they do and do not spay and neuter their animals to help control the pet population! as far as the humane officer phillip dever I read in paper he just got a new job so they will be hiring a new humane office soon i am sure.

It's not just used to cremate the animals who are put down at a vet's office. They cremate the remains of the animals that are put down there because they are not adopted.

Every animal shelter has had to put down animals because they are not adopted unless its a no kill shelter. If they dont put down some than the place would get over ran and would cost way more than they could afford. It's a good place, I dont care what anyone else says. I wish there was another animal shelter like that in Roane County or close by for more animals could live.

Well I hope he is better at his new job...he was always at the courthouse or riding around with HEAD deputy . What is the animal control officer job anyway. I might want to apply. Freee vehicle decent pay do they offer any insurance plus you get to moonlight while you should be doing that job. Sounds like a fun job

well I understand that they don't just creamate dogs that had to be pu down , but it is impossible to find homes for every animal that passes through thier doors I am sure. From my understanding Roane county is surrounded by three other counties that do not have a shelter. So Roane gets all their animals as well. That is alot of dogs and cats. If you go to the shelter you can see on thier wall the statistics of just how many animals they take in.. last year it was over 1800 and that is just one year.. in the last ten years they have taken in over 15,000 animals.. That is so sad!! Wish more people would be responsible for thier animals and get them spayed and neutered.

I think every one needs to quit complaining about the smoke and start thinking about spay and neuter.......thats the real answer!

1PERSON I completely agree with you there would be no smoke if people actually took responsibility for their animals and thought aobut all the unwanted, un cared for animals out there and how they contribute to the overpopulation of animals by not getting them spayed and neutered. that is why there is a state law that any animal that leaves a shelter be spayed or neutered! Greatest thing ever!!

Has anyone who is friend with the Roane shelter been following the feed posted on there by a gentleman who found dogs and then took it upon himself to within the day he found them to just give them away and according to his own posting , he gave them away to people who he did not even know.. this is sad.. If anyone finds dogs or knows of dogs running around it should be reported to the shelter.. THIS IS WHY WE HAVE A SHELTER IS IT NOT?

I HAVE A FREIND THAT WORKS AT SHELTER AND SHE SAID THE DOGS WERE REPORTED BEING SEEN IN TOWN JUST BEFORE THEY WERE PICKED UP. THE GUY POSTED PICTURES OF THE DOGS AND HAD SAID HE WAS GOING TO BRING THEM TO THE SHELTER IF NO ONE CLAIMED THEM BUT THEN DID NOT. I AGREE WITH " JUST MY OPINION" These dogs should of been brought to the shelter , its not the publics place to decide what happens to the dogs it should be left up to the shelter who is trained in handling these situations.. If the dogs were being neglected then I am sure the shelter would of stepped in. Just too bad they were never given that chance.

roane shelter does not just put animals down to make room for more. U must be confusing them for jackson county shelter (jc doesn't even try to adopt cats out they euthanize them the minute they come in) Roane works very hard to adopt out or rescue all animals. The shelter tries to only put down animals that are sick, hurt, aggresive, or wild. As a matter of fact patches a dog has been at the shelter for well over a month while many other dogs and cats have continued to come and go and she remains patiently waiting on her forever home. And btw there is not "smoke rolling from the place 24/7" I have actually been at the shelter when the furnace was going and didn't see a wisp of smoke. Please spay and neuter your animals. That controls the pet population and makes for fewer unwanted pets that end up at the shelter. I will agree that Roane needs a new animal control officer, but it needs to be someone who is truly dedicated to the cause and wiling to roll out of bed at 10 pm or whenever to go get the animals in need.

Do any of you hilljacks have a fucking brain? Why in the world would anyone send animals to the shelter when there were loving homes available to them??? Isn't that tge goal of tge shelter? To find them homes? The ONLY people complaining about this situation are the shelter employees and their relatives! Everyone else agrees that he did the right thing giving them homes. The scumbag who left them did not attempt to locate them for a week after they were found and only wanted one if them back because she was breeding her. She didn't give 2 shits about the other dog! They were both filthy dirty from running around on their own for god knows how long. But someone thinks that sending them to the shelter where they might have eventually been put down is the right thing to do? Get the fuck outta here with that shut!
