Are you kidding me? PETA doesn't like the school name? Who gives a rats behind what PETA thinks! Why did they waste electronic ink on this?

I think Paula Poundstone did far better on Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me. When questioned about what the proposed new name would be, she replied:

"Cuttlefish!"

It was named Spearfish, because the Sioux would spear fish in the creek leading into town. I've never heard of a marlin in South Dakota, except in the grocery store. Mmmmmmm, Marlin.
PETA is still crazy
Actually, the Sioux would spear fish in the creak that runs THROUGH the middle of Spearfish.

Another example of PETA idiocy. Problem is they are successful at pushing their agenda. I am a hunter, trapper, and fisher. Especially as a trapper (yes, I use steel traps to catch woodland creatures) PETA hates me. As a result of their campaigns, many people posting on here about the lunacy of PETA also have distain for trapping. The next time you read an article about the cruel nature of _______ (insert animal related sport), consider the source of that information.

Funny maria. Your first reaction is to characterize me as an unemployed deadbeat. Classic PETA technique.

From your arguement about me trapping animals that are not for my sole use, I assume you are against the farmer who sells vegetables to the supermarket where you buy groceries.

What part of my post was a lie. I simply said trappers, hunters, and fishers have been effictively vilified by PETA and people should check the source of the information they read.

Maria, so far you have attacked me personnaly with two untrue statements. To paraphrase you called me an unemployed deadbeat and an immoral hunter. What will you accuse me of next...I caused the current recession?

For the record:
I have never hunted wolves from helicopters (although I do support the current program in Alaska)
I have never hunted with a light on my rifle (it is illegal to use a light on a rifle here, although they are allowed on shotguns in certain circumstances. BTW the light is to see the game not startle it)
In most cases, I am able to release unintended animals from my traps alive and no worse for the wear.

You mentioned conservation in your post. You will not find a more conservation minded group than outdoor sportsman. We are the ones who provide funding to the state DNRs through license fees. This money is used for habitat aquisition, watershed improvement projects, species reintroductions, etc., etc. I do not se your organization putting up money for these projects.

You got me again maria. Turns out I DID cause the recession.

In most states, fur trapping is limited to that portion of the year when fur is "right". There are cases where the fur is not right. As I said before, most unintended catches can be released. Those that cannot be released are killed and used to the extent possible. One other case in which fur is not right that I am aware of is mange. This is an animal disease that causes the hair to fall out. In this case, the animal is killed and discarded. Trapping is a winter activity and releasing an animal with mange will result in its slow death due to exposure.

Alot has changed in my sport since your granddad quite trapping. By the way, 30 years ago was during the fur boom and there were alot of unscrupulus guys out there after a quick buck who gave the rest of us a black eye. Thankfully, one cannot make a living by trapping anymore and those of us left do it for the challenge it presents much like hunters and fishermen.

If these people keep going forward I may have to cut off my cuddly little fuzzy bunnies. Can't they get jobs!!! Please, leave real people alone, we do have incisors which are meant for tearing meat and inflicting wounds at an increased depth.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Scorpio

Don't believe everything you see today and your memory could be playing tricks on you, too. You might remember things in a distorted or false way, through no fault of your own. You may also be reading too much into the situations that are going on around you, making it hard for you to know what's really happening. Try not to make any big decisions today because you simply aren't thinking straight.
