Illinois starts its fiscal year with a veto

It's time to cut, not tax everyone. Most of us in the private sector have not had raises in years and not are even facing pay cuts. Time for the state to make the same type of tough decisions. You can start with the politicians travel budgets.

Agreed--it is time to make cuts. There is still too much corruption syphoning off taxpayer money, too many illegal aliens receiving welfare and other benefits (illegally), too many other examples of mismanagement in the bloated carnival extravaganza known as state government. The goons who masquerade as our elected officials while pilfering the nearly-empty pockets of the people need to voted out of office as soon as possible. Or better yet, they should be tried and convicted and imprisoned right now for their many crimes. Are you listening, goons?

My sentiments exactly, how much has Quinn cost the taxpayers to fly around and participate in publicity stunts? He is the ultimate hypocrite. What a dissappointment!
I had to take a ten percent cut in pay this year and my health insurance went up. Its time the State employees, starting at the top, feel the pain and cut their bloated salaries, perks, etc. and do some serious cost cutting.
Quinn is going to threaten "service cuts" as a way for us to comply but it only makes him look like Blago was right....

Quinn and the Democrats are extorting the citizens of Illinois. We don't have any more money to fund every program under the sun that they want. Quinn needs to learn to govern and to live within the current budget. If he can't do it, maybe he should resign and let someone else run the state. I'm sick and tired of his scare tactics.

They need to CUT spending. The massive social programs are killing us.

Government was never supposed to be in so many areas of our lives.

We need cuts, not higher income taxes. I am SICK of supporting human sinkholes that contribute nothing because the public is swayed by emotional pleas like those made by our nitwit governor. Sink or swim, ON YOUR OWN! We don't owe these people our livelihood. SLASH ENTITLEMENTS! I hope the legislature continues to refuse to bend to the governor's demands. I don't care what they have to cut, I am sick of paying for those who don't pull their weight.

Why is Quinn so worried about these groups? If people are so concerned, let the donate their own money and time. They are nothing financial drains and in this economic environment, we can't keep flushing money on individuals that are incapable of giving anything back. Slash welfare and close these homes. Let them live with their families that brought them into the world. Of course, people are too stupid and emotional to see that we shouldn't spend all kinds of resources on groups that contribute nothing back. There is no point to all of these programs for retarded people anyway. They are never going to contribute anything and will be a burden to the day they die. If you can't support them for their wholes lives until they die, don't bring them into the world. I'd much rather see the roads fixed than have money being spent on all of Quinn's pet groups. At least then, the tax payer benefits in some form!

And I am sure everyone, especially the families of such people who think the world owes them everything, will be outraged at my comment. I really don't care.

You said it! Unfortunately, as soon as people hear of cuts being made to social programs, a lot of them stop thinking and don't care if the math doesn't add up. They just expect people to keep paying.

I work near the Thompson Center, where advocates of the increase have been holding regular protests, demanding more money. Who are these people that have DAYS to devote to demanding more resources that they did not produce and demanding it at the top of their lungs. Maybe if they didn't pass the days chanting on the corner, they could have jobs and pay their own way. Quinn sucks. I hope they slash it all. I am sick of this.

They are Acorn people and they are paid for by you taxpayer thru Obama.
He gave them 4 billion dollars and is going to use them to count us in the next census. Or should I say not count us but provide millions of names for democrat machines across the country. Your vote will no longer matter.

this is when neighborhoods step up to help with shortfalls instead of raising taxes. I'm tapped out. I pay a month in property taxes what most of the world never earns in a year or more.

I compare what I pay here what I paid in texas and I don't see what I get for the huge difference. Roads have the same potholes, same crime, same social services, same schools yet in texas it was 1200 a year for a 300.000 dollar home and here in Mchenry it's 9300. Wow where does it all go. The taxes in this state will force people to move to others.

For the last several years, we heard that all of Illinois state government's problems were Blago's fault...funny, he isn't hear anymore and the legislature still can't figure out how to govern. The one constant...the one who has been in the center of every budget failure seems to be Mike Madigan...when will we start holding him accountable for his lack of leadership and complete failure to pass a budget?

This impasse is not the result of a lack of leadership on Madigan's part. It's a result of Quinn's lack of leadership in terms of doing the heavy lifting required to make sure that well before May 31st he had strong support for the tax increase. he also needed to court republicans prior to may 31st to see how he could get their support before then or shortly thereafter (meaning before July 1st). When they told him what it would take, he should have acted immediately to ensure their support. His lack of foreplanning and forethought are difficult to understand at this juncture in his political career.

IMPEACH QUINN!
It's about time that those Legislators in Springfield are "STANDING" up for their constituants.
Now what they need to do is OVERIDE that A HOLE Qyuinn's Veto.
And I hope that they realize that if they cave in to Quinn's Huge Tax Increase and his exorbedant fee hikes that they will be looking for jobs after the next election.
A "MESSAGE" has to be sent to those representing us in Springfield, "The People of Illinois.
Start making cuts!
Get rid of the "DEADBEATS" in Springfield and throughout the rest of the state.
That will be a good start.

This dumbass govenor will not be happy until he gets all our money and dools it out as he sees fit.

Cut off all baby sitting, kindergarden and after school programs so PARENTS will be accountable for their kids once and for all.

Slash every department 30 %, we all know you can do it and it makes no difference in services, because we get nothing anyway!

Lower pensions, eliminate private contractors, give a wage and income tax credit to busineses like the one you gave to HOLLYWOOD film companies.

Illinois has the the most despicable gorup of hypocrites an losers passing budgets.

Eliminate recieving two or more governemnt checks as income for the Hacks in the legislature, fire all the relatives too!
