Why are they spending time, monet, and resources on something like this? Is this such a terrible act that has never taken place in the past ? These kids are basically the same age but just fall in an awkward section of the penal code. Why not use the resources of the PD to get the dope dealers and rapist and true child molesters out of the city? All this did was to ruin a career, probably 2 careers, not to mention the embarrassment to the families. Only in Desoto County.

Could we possible the reasons all the problems in our school systems across the United States of America is that God is taken from our children. My daughter is a senior in high school and it is sad to hear things like this happening. Parents need to be more involved in our kids lives. Should we not be teaching abstinence instead of sex education and safe sex. I hate this has happened to two lives wrecked. I only wished God could be apart of our children's education. The choice of Bible class teaching right from wrong may have prevented this. And do not read more into it I said MAY. We as christian parents need to pray for our childred, teachers, schools and nation. Postitive things do come out of our school systems.

Do you honestly believe this doesn't (or couldn't) have happened anywhere? These teachers are supposed to be setting examples. Not trying to ruin a young girls life by trying to get her pregnant. Are these the same teachers that should be teaching abstinence? Even if it has happened in the past it doesn't make it ok to do something like this. boo-hoo the families might get embarrassed. They are lucky if that is the worst that happens to them.

I am married to someone who made this mistake and our WHOLE family is suffering! We bought a house and lived there for 3 years before he was told he had to move out because we are too close to a school!! Now my kids and I are without a good husband and father in the home. My AWESOME parents are supporting us- he has to live with them until we can get this all figured out! He made a MISTAKE almost 10 years ago and we are still suffering the consequences! He didn't rape anyone!! It was a mistake! So yes there's absolutely a difference between something like this and a SERIAL rapist or child molester! Except when it comes to the law. Trust me I've seen enough of how the system works than I ever wanted to. Everybody makes mistakes and everybody deserves a second chance! I don't know the circumstances of this case so I guess that we'll see.

Let this be a lesson to other young graduates. In a moment of passion....you can throw everything you worked for....DOWN THE DRAIN! Is a moment of pleasure worth a lifetime of regret?

Ok I am not disputing your statement yes if they are under 18 they are a "minor". But also look at this. This kid (the teacher) is 22. Even if the girl had JUST turned 17 that is still only a 5 year difference in age. If she was 18 and he was 23 this wouldnt even make the headlines. he would have been transfered to another school. I am interested in her age as respect to when she is turning 18 if she turns 18 in a month then this is a waste of tax payers money and a misuse of judicial resources that are already strained to begin with.
I am all for protecting children from sexual predators. I think it is a horrendous act when a 12 is solicited by a 30yo man for sexual relations but this is a bit much. This kid (again the teacher) is going to have his entire life flushed down the drain over a something that if they were not a teacher wouldnt even be looked at. He will be labeled a sex offender forced to register where ever he moves not allowed to live within x feet of schools and parks. He will not be able to obtain work in his learned profession because of this, and become a drain on the taxpayers while he tries to find work after sucking money and resources out of the tax payers to put him in prison for however longer his sentence.
We have laws in place that are asinine and were written by the same puritanical society that will lose their mind if someone shows breasts in a movie but you can kill 1500 people in so many different ways the writer has to go to therapy for years just to get past the mental images of thinking about it for so long.
I agree he technically broke the law. But I also believe that if you are within a certain number of years then it is treated differently.
And 200,000 dollars? really? I could run over 5 people driving in reverse going the wrong way on a one way street snorting coke off of a hooker with a trunk full of illegal aliens and not get 200,000 bond.

She isnt a child. She is a minor. A child by definition in Mississippi is someone under the age of 14:

"§ 97-3-65. Statutory rape; enhanced penalty for forcible sexual intercourse or statutory rape by administering certain substances.
(1) The crime of statutory rape is committed when:
(b) A person of any age has sexual intercourse with a child who:
(i) Is under the age of fourteen (14) years"

This girl is 17 which is a minor not a child.

Also, This girl was of the age of consent. Which is 16 in MS. AND this doesnt even fall under Statutory Rape because that is defined as:

"
(1) The crime of statutory rape is committed when:
(a) Any person seventeen (17) years of age or older has sexual intercourse with a child who:
(i) Is at least fourteen (14) but under sixteen (16) years of age;
(ii) Is thirty-six (36) or more months younger than the person; and
(iii) Is not the person's spouse; or
(b) A person of any age has sexual intercourse with a child who:
(i) Is under the age of fourteen (14) years;
(ii) Is twenty-four (24) or more months younger than the person; and
(iii) Is not the person's spouse."

That is why they are charging him with sexual battery which is"

"§ 97-3-95. Sexual battery.
(1) A person is guilty of sexual battery if he or she engages in sexual penetration with:
(a) Another person without his or her consent;
(b) A mentally defective, mentally incapacitated or physically helpless person;
(c) A child at least fourteen (14) but under sixteen (16) years of age, if the person is thirty-six (36) or more months older than the child; or
(d) A child under the age of fourteen (14) years of age, if the person is twenty-four (24) or more months older than the child.
(2) A person is guilty of sexual battery if he or she engages in sexual penetration with a child under the age of eighteen (18) years if the person is in a position of trust or authority over the child including without limitation the child's teacher, counselor, physician, psychiatrist, psychologist, minister, priest, physical therapist, chiropractor, legal guardian, parent, stepparent, aunt, uncle, scout leader or coach."

So if he wasnt a teacher and/or she was 18 this wouldnt even make the news. This is a witch trial and they are railroading a young man for something that is totally acceptable if he were in another profession not mentioned above.

I agree that the charge says more than we probably know. Not rape but "sexual battery" which means sex did not occur. Whether she lied or not, she probably claimed he forced her, etc and that is the only way to justify the $200k bond.

Maybe he should have thought about the consequences before he made the 'mistake'. Parents look to teachers not only to teach but to set good examples. How are we supposed to teach our kids safe sex or abstinence when the teachers are the preditors? So sorry, but your husband got what he deserved and should never be a teacher.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Pisces

You're lacking in energy and resources today, which will soon slow you down and make you feel as though you're wading through treacle. The only way to cope is to have as many breaks as possible, and not to set yourself impossible goals that you could never hope to meet. You're also very susceptible to the criticisms or put-downs of others, but do your best to ignore them.
