East Hartford is not a very safe town to walk in, period.
One of the worst areas to walk in, is the northern part of the town, off of Silver Lane.
Beware of Sunset Estates, if you like to walk, and also Cipolla Drive.
I would definitely not considering buying any property in the area of Sunset Estates at this point in time if you like to walk daily because walking through that area is certainly not a safe thing to do.
There are 3 streets, Millwood, Birchwood & Knollwood, that have the most hostile & mean-spirited neighbors we've ever encountered in our lives!
They think it's their right to let their dogs roam loose off their property, attack other people's dogs being walked on a leash & then think it's OK to start yelling & swearing at you, if your dog gets attacked too.
They leave basketball stands up on the street, right near a stop sign, or on a sidewalk. Those basketball stands have fallen over several times too. Dangerous. Especially considering they do have Tornados in the area. Look at Springfield, Mass. last year. Many homes were destroyed.
They act like you don't even have a right to walk down the street, if you live there if you're disabled or they just don't like you.
There's numerous homeowners living on Knollwood who think it's their right to scream & swear at you, basically committing Disturbing the Peace! Not a friendly street at all!
There's even a dog who can leave its electric fence on that street, who often runs out of it, crosses the street & attacks other dogs.
There's a guy who's leaving a string & posts up on the town grass strip, for months now, so it's very difficult to get off the street onto the sidewalk, because you cannot easily jump over the high strings he has up there.
Meanwhile just across the street a homeowner is continually setting up his water sprinkler so it comes pouring across the sidewalk, so you gotta choose between getting soaking wet, or being forced to walk in the road.
Up the street, is a homeowner whose using the Speed Limit 25 MPH sign to grow a large climbing vine up the Speed Limit sign, & it's almost covering up the Speed Limit sign now. It's a Clematis which grows to over 10 feet tall. Again not safe. They also have a bunch of metal fences surrounding the Speed Limit sign, so your dog leash could easily get tangled around that.
There's an elderly woman down the street, who'll threaten to leave dog feces on your front steps & call the police on you, if you walk your dog down the street, even if your dog is going to the bathroom, not on her property, but someone else's and you're picking up your dog's poop immediately.
On the next street, Birchwood Road, there's several people who own pitbulls who don't put their dogs out on a chain, or a leash, they just let them run free, even if they have a fence in their back yard! Again, that's dangerous, as pitbulls are very aggressive dogs.
I see several people nearby on that street, who have put up fences in their backyards & I can well understand why!
On Millwood, more mean neighbors, and that's where the basketball stands lie mostly. There's a young boy, who was told, it was illegal to play ball in the street, & he literally threw a rock at someone's head, when what they told them what is a fact! It is against the law in the town of East Hartford to play ball in the street!
And the mayor calls this a safe town? I doubt it. But stay away from those 3 streets if you want to move to Sunset Estates. Those are bad areas.
Probably the most safest part of the whole neighborhood would be Holland Lane. Not that all the neighbors are friendly there either, but they're alot more pleasant than the rest of the neighborhood, that's for sure!
