Wonderful to give the law breakers MORE breaks while the abiding citizens pay for it. I suppose we are going to pay for their insurance now too???

The real, though unstated, purpose of this program isn't "helping" drivers to regain licensure; it's revenue recapture. Cities lost a huge amount of funding in the latest budget and they need a way to recover payables. It's never been a secret that cities rely heavily on fines and fees ordered following petty "crimes," misdemeanors, and traffic offenses. What is really senseless about this pilot is that the people eligible to participate will already have had payment plans set up through collections and already will have failed to meet their court-ordered obligation to pay these sums. But nothing is going to change. These folks didn't win the Powerball. Still, they will get a second bite at the apple, and most will not pay under a second, new payment plan; people who couldn't pay to begin with are unlikely to have improved their financial lots -- after all, it's always been the poor, deadbeat dads, and drunk drivers who fall into a vicious cycle with license suspensions and revocations. However, the cities will be able to recover the pilot program entrance fee at the outset -- and that's what it's all about. It's not a good idea or a bad idea, more like a mediocre and useless one.

It is a useless Idea. I am one of those repeat offenders.... and a damn good taxpayer. Its a snoball effect. i got a ticket for taillight being out. was only working part time, going to school, no money,it went into collections, got my license taken. Had to keep working to make rent and insurance. Then i lost my policy for suspended license... and so on.
its not always delinquents, deadbeats or clunker-driving scum who get into these situations, sometimes is regular good people too. And other than that i make sure to be a damn good, law abiding citizen... FYI.
But the Idea is useless for one reason only:
If i can barely pay my bills, insurance and these darn tickets, why would i want to give you leeches 300 of my hard earned dollars??

I have had my drivers license suspended for a few years now due to identity theft. I am a single mother working fulltime. I reported the theft, but all they did was flag my identification. Now someone has racked up multiple fines, and the hearing officers want me to do community service and partial payments. They dont care how it affects anyone, as long as someone pays for it...i.e this program.

Oh, and FYI...I pay taxes just like any other american. The only tickets I have incurred under my name are driving after suspension (a suspension that should have never existed in the first place) And if I could afford to pay all the the fines to re instate my license, I wouldn't....I'd rather pay for a lawyer.

It is wrong to assume anything about anybody if you don't fully understand the person's circumstances. You are basically being prejudice. And if you had done your research before degrading, you would know that this program cost nothing for taxpayers. And didn't your mother ever tell you if you didn't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. It may do you some good to look at yourself long and hard before passing judgement upon anyone else. Sweep around your own front door before you try to sweep someone else's. And for The record, I have never received a ticket, broken any law, and I pay taxes. I realize stuff happens, sometimes to what you may think is the best of us.

why don't you take the time to perhaps consider some people need to drive to survive. And if this program will allow folks to drive legally while paying there fines, it benefits all!! But ofcourse you live a perfect life.
