Black workers in the restaurant industry are routinely kept from the highest-paying jobs in the highest-paying restaurants.
They're told their appearance isn't the right fit. They're relegated to fast food while their White peers climb the ranks to earn upwards of $50,000 a year.
One of the industry's serial offenders is Darden Restaurants, the company that owns and operates Olive Garden, Red Lobster, LongHorn Steakhouse and the high-end Capital Grille.
Any big employer that is stupid enough to tell minority employees that "their appearance isn't the right fit", would be sued very quickly and make the front page of the news.

I have no idea if you discrimination claim is true, but I'm sure that's not what they tell them, it's what someone like you imagines they might have told them, or imagines is the reason why more aren't in higher positions.

I also have no idea where your example is located but if you were to open a high class restaurant at the edge of a very poor black neighborhood you might well have lots of blacks apply who are well qualified to wash dishes, scrub the floors and perhaps even do a lot of the kitchen work, but need to find other people with higher educations and more experience in high end restaurants, to be everything from your top chief to your manager.

What you see just might be the result of the fact that the local blacks just can't get the kind of experience they need to be a top chief, or manager, by climbing to the top of their local fast food joints.

When it's time to hire a manager or a top chief, someone whose already proven they can do it in a similar setting, will always look like a better bet to an employer.

They might even want to promote from within, to save some money, but be afraid to take that chance, because if it doesn't work they will almost always end up with a disgruntled employee, in place of one that was doing very well.

Forget Global warming, I am still waiting for the bird flu to kill millions of humans as promised 5 years ago or what about the ozone was being destroyed by underarm deoderant that the government told us about 40 years ago or what about with cancer growing and smokers declining, what about the State of California and the US Governments websites both saying the gasoline emissions are causing cancer, which one is right 2nd hand smoke or gasoline emissions as our government tells us? This is soooo confusing, I think I will wait 5 minutes and see what else is going wrong.

This massive water bond would decimate California's budget.

Our state is already facing a $13 billion budget deficit, which would be almost doubled if we pass the water bond.

That would mean even more cuts to public schools, safety and health care.

I love tax free municipal bonds, but even with that said, I quiet agree, we can't afford to keep borrowing more and more money.

But if they sell them and they are general obligation and insured, I'll buy them.

How can I say no to tax free income?

A strong case can be made that while this tightly bonded council majority may not have lined their pockets in the same way that Bell City Council and City Manager Robert Rizzo had, they have depleted city funds by the endless hours spent by city staff to respond to the crisis caused by their "personal" drama, that many related lawsuits have hit the city hard and more lawsuits expected to come because of their self serving decision-making.

While some might disregard their "affairs," as a small town sex scandal, it is costing hard dollars and cents.

There are business owners who are now thinking twice about staying in a city with a tainted reputation, and new businesses have to take a hard look before deciding to make an investment in a town with such a stain.

Arctic Ice Melt has Reversed
One of the most dramatic results of the record cold over much of the planet is the reversal of the much-reported melt of the icebergs in the Arctic Ocean. Last autumn the world was alarmed to hear from certain climatologists that the ice in the Arctic had melted to its "lowest levels on record.” What was carefully omitted from those scare stories was the fact that those records only date back as far as 1972, and that there is anthropological and geological evidence of much greater melts in the past.
Now, as a result of the recent record cold weather, the ice is back. According to Gilles Langis, a senior forecaster with the Canadian Ice Service in Ottawa, the Arctic winter has been so severe the ice has not only recovered, it is actually 10 to 20 cm thicker in many places than at this time last year.
What few people know and what the Global Warming lobby seems at pains to keep known is the fact that there is considerable seasonal variation in how much pack ice of the Arctic ice pack covers the Arctic Ocean. Much of the ocean is also covered in snow for about 10 months of the year. The maximum snow cover is in March or April — about 20 to 50 centimeters over the frozen ocean. The thickness is not one of the universal constants, never was.
