The employees in the police department and city hall have been on top of each other for 20 years. They have completely run out of space. It is easy to sit on the outside and criticize but I am convinced there are some that wouldn't mind if city employees worked out of tents or worse.
The mayor is doing a good job with limited resources. What they should not have done is pay extra for the county jail. That means the citizens of Martin got hit twice on the bill for the jail. Many forget they pay county taxes just like everyone else. Then they have to use a portion of their city taxes to help pay for the county jail. Good grief! |

they are buying a worn out building, and then spend a few more million to build it out. And what do they do with the old bldg? tear it down? make another eye sore in the nasty lookingdowntown? Why does martin need a full time mayor? You are paying 60K for what? most lost businesses? Can you name anything thats come along since he's been in office? The hampton Inn, thats it. Have you ever heard him speak? He doesnt get that he was elected, because the people of Martin were voting against Larry Taylor, not for the current mayor.

1 Mr Suiter has done more to bring positive attention to the City of Martin than just about anyone I know. He busted his A$%^ to get the Cal Ripkin tournament thats coming to Martin later this summer. Along with that tournament brings unbelieveable amount of tax money into the city. Kudos to Dennis for that. Hey thats tax money where they could build that new city hall! I wonder what will happen to Santa's Village after he leaves. He has been the main one organizing it for the past 20 + years. SV provides food and toys to over 10 local service agencys at Christmas each year. And now all this crap about him buying personal stuff on a city card and driving the City vehicle. Its my understandng that there was no oversight. SO Wow, he bought a few things that he turned right arund and paid back for. It didnt appear he was trying to hide anything. And have you seen the "City" vehicle he does get to drive? Hardly a budget breaker there considering too that lives less than a mile from the office. He is retiring because of changes in rules that will allow him to keep his health insurance. If he keeps working he loses the coverage. Thats a no-brainer. Dennis is always looking for ways to bring attention to Martin. It upsets me that something that was not really a big deal was allowed to be made much bigger than it was. There would be nothing to "prosecute" If Martin had 10 more people like Mr. Suiter, what a much better community this could be. |

It is my understanding that every hotel room in Martin is booked with teams for the week of the Cal Ripkin tournament including the new Hampton Inn. Thats hotel-motel tax money. Those people will certainly eat while in town. Food is taxed in Tennessee. I don't see how several hundred visitors to a town over a several day period could be a money losing event. Plus all the media coverage that comes with an event as such~~~Somebody sounds a little bitter to me.

Mr Not ME: the rooms for each coach and assistant, umpire and RIpken official is PAID for by the city of Martin. A courtesy car for each coach, plus $150 per day, all courtesy of the city of Martin. Two banquets, food for the kids, on city of Martin tab. I could go on and on. You need to see the contract.

the above person is correct. The city has to pay for all those things, plus more. Im glad my fire fighting subscription is going for such a good cause

Just for the record I am proud of the fire department we have.
It wasn't that long ago the fire department bailed Suiter out by building the nice soccer complex at the MRC, but no one ever gave thanks to them for building it, Suiter just took all the glory it seems to me. |

As I remember it, they had some "grant" to build the building, put it off..prices went up..so not to cost any more $$ they made the fire dept go out and build that soccer bldg. Hats off to the fire dept, im glad suiter is gone.
