Boy Hit By Car In Nicholas County

This child is seriously injured. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

He has been in my prayers since yesterday morning. I also have children in Craigsville, and I know how I would feel if I were in his parents position. Does anyone have an update on his condition?

Does anyone know the name of this child or who his family is?

Does anyone know how Derick is doing? I was told yesterday evening that he had maybe taken a turn for the worse.

This young boy & his family are in my prayers. What a terrible accident! I couldn't imagine hitting someone & then leaving the scene. I believe my first reaction would be to do whatever I could to help & call 911. I imagine that's what most people would do, but I guess not everyone would be more concerned about the injured person than they are themselves.
Craigsville used to be so much safer than it is today! It saddens my heart to see, hear & read about all the selfishness, cruelty & just plain heathanism that's going on in our little, country town.
Does anyone know if this young boy has insurance? I wonder if there's anything that the family needs? Gas money for traveling to & from Charleston? Financial help for a hotel room close by the hospital? It would be so great to see our community pull together to help these folks during such a difficult time!
In Jesus' Name, I ask that God be with Derick & the Rider family. I pray that they be showered with blessings during this tragicly difficult time & that all their needs be provided for.

i know the family.i called up there today.derek is doing better then what he was.he is off his breathing tube and he waved at his sister and told his mom he loved her.So everyone can look at that as a plus sign.They still all need your prayers so keep them in your thoughts.I would post what i think needs to happen to justin and his mom but i dont feel like going to jail over my opinion.I was with the family most of the day on the day that happened and i love you all and i will keep checking on him,and i am going to try to get back up there.love and prayers heather.

Why would anyone leave a child beside a road to die after you ran over them. Is that human compassion and should they the Gilles get the same compassion.

i am a single mother and there is no way i would ever do what Shirly Gilles did for her son that is wrong you are to teach you kids right from wrong and let them know they will have to pay for what they do wrong and i think that any mother that is a real true mother would never do that because what if it was her child in the place of the 12 year old i love my kids with all my heart but they need to pay for everything they did both Justin Gilles and his Mother Shirly Gilles they are cold hearted and need to be put under the Jail the boy will have to live with this for the rest of his life and they think it is ok for what they did my heart is with Derek and his family

I totally agree with everyone of you. I am a parent as well and I would hate to think what I would have done if that would have been my child. They wouldn't need an officer just go ahead and call the coroner cause both would need a body bag. That is so horrible and heart wrenching for what they done. How could any parent themselves do that? And the woman is a grandparent. I just don't understand it. Next time we see them out, we should just run over them and classify it as a hillbilly pothole.

This is such a tragedy to the community as well. It could have very well easily been one of our children on the way to the bus stop. Heaven forbid if anything like that happened to one of mine. My thoughts and prayers are with the Rader family and I hope that Derick makes a full and complete recovery. God Bless You!

I have known the Gilles family for several years. They are not cold hearted people as you make them out to be. I agree that what he and his mother did was wrong. I am the parent of two children also.

To those who have posted, do you know the Gilles family? To Loveing mother, has the Gilles family told you what they did was ok? as you stated in your post

Just to mention that this boy JUSTIN GILLES has been in so much trouble with the law system and has not been in jail for nothing,this is to do with the family in the court system (i beleive)...But to let all the concered parents know this trail has been moved to FAYETT court system...which this is a big #1 move...him and his mother are cruel cold hearted humans... the little boy is not the guilty one, he was inisantly going to school...we all know to causion the school childern knowing school is in session..and by them living so close to school zone he knew there were walkers going to school..oh just to finish im so mad at the way the little boy was left after being hit and go get the mother to lie for him...(cruel cruel)...this is not the 1st time they have lied on accidents several in the area has been false statements the officers caught them up in there lies before all said and done, so no charges on false statements on the one account that i know of...i wish the best to the family of the little boy and may GOD BLESS you all...
