Now....if they had a nice afterschool program or football program, we wouldn't have to read such stories as this. Either we pay for it now, or we pay for it later. We wouldn't have to read about teenagers carving holes into hardware store roofs for guns. If they know you, as a community doesn't care, they won't care!

This is much more serious. What were those kids going to do with the guns. Shoot up the school? Another Columbine? Please someone should do something. What was the Hardware store guy thinking? In domestic assaults if the woman chooses not to prosecute the state still does.

Now there's some interesting thoughts.....concerns me also.

If this was just a couple kids breaking into a business for thrills, or candy or baseball cards, that would be one thing. But this concerned weapons with, I believe, ammunition; and isn't that a federal offense?
If this were an ordinary adult, wouldn't he be prosecuted to the max?. And as far as what WERE they going to do with the guns? Use them? Sell them? Or what? But does it really matter? They did it. They deserve to pay the penalty for it, and pay it to the max, with age not being a factor. I also think the store owner is, or should be held accountable for not pressing charges as soon as the incident happened, and a report should have been filed with the police department immediately as well. And they say the cheese smells bad in Denmark. |

When my son was a teen he was stopped several times by the local police for minor things like his windshield wipers having lights on them; his tail light was out (not really but that's what they told him the reason was); he didn't put his lights on fast enough when pulling out of a fast food restaurant; one officer even approached him while he was washing his car and stated my son's car was just seen pulling in and out of the local video store! His car had been searched on two of those occasions.
And then I read something like this! Well, there is something that smells bad in Denmark! It's the small town attitude of it's who you are and some youth and adults can avoid prosecution, jail time or other penalties because of their name or connections. It's so commonplace it seems no one really "blinks an eye" at it anymore. |

Well they should blink. The way I see it, they should clean up the legal system and even a few more orgs around here. There is alot of bad cheese smells around here it seems.
Most people that are aware of it are afraid to say anything or pay any attention to it; a 'leave it alone and it will leave me alone' kind of attitude. But they should ask themselves which is better? Let things remain as they are and live with it and possibly let it get worse, or defend yourself and your rights? Clean it up? This is YOUR town. YOU hire these people to do these jobs. You should demand to get your moneys worth. I'm not mentioning any specifics, but alot of people know what I'm talking about. I don't care who you are, if you break the law, you are to be held accountable. It makes me sad to see such repulsive goings on in our town. Everyone knows everyone, and we're all neighbors, and things should work accordingly. It takes only but a few to screw up what could be good, and should be good. The sad thing about it is, the nice guy will keep on suffering and paying for those who choose to be the idiots. |

Well said!

Wow! Things must have really changed in Oscoda. It has been years (35) since I was there. I always thought Oscoda was a wonderful place with wonderful people. About 10 or so years back I saw that it was listed in the top ten places to retire.
I hope to come back for a visit someday. I hope I still see it as a great place! |

Oscoda IS still a wonderful place with wonderful people. If you chance to return for a visit one day, you will see that it is still a great place to live. There are some quirks, as there are with ALL towns, but the people here work together to get them straightened out. It has grown some, since your last visit; not as much as some would like to see, but overall, still a great place to live.

I agree.. I agree that what was done, was indeed wrong, but it was also done by CHILDREN. They don't know what was waiting for them after all of this.. they didn't think of the horrible things that could happen to them because of this.. Why? simply because they were so young. So yes SHIRLEY lets prosecute them and let the rot in a cell for about 50 years and denie them the right to learn from what they did...Age does matter, very much so. And why accuse them of such wicked uses for the guns? Heres another thought. Guns are worth alot of money.. Wouldn't it be wise to sell them other than USE them? I meen.. what more does a child/teenager want at such an age? To commit murder? Doubt it.. Why else would they have tried so hard to evade being cought? So they could slotter the population in the highschool? Also unlikly isn't it? Btw, ammunition was NOT taken.. just guns. And notice.. the ammunition was in there reach, they could have grabbed it, but chose not to, Coming together yet? I'll be respecting a reply :)

the sheriff will hopefully get booted out of office what a disgrace
|

if you all knew the real truth. It's not at all the sheriff's fault, heck he didn't find out about the incident till after 12 days. So what the heck was the deputy thinking?
|
||||
Bologna!!! These kids WERE old enough to know right from wrong. They did the crime so they deserve the time. No one did any accusing, but they DID do the crime, and I heard that ammunition was also taken. Guns are just as dangerous in young hands as well as old ones; possibly more dangerous in young ones because they dont know what they are doing with them or the rules for them. By the way, were these YOUR kids by any chance? You sound like the defending mother. |

You're a tool Ziggy.
Kids do stupid things, and not every child is a manic depressant who wants to light up their 3rd period math class. Stop being so pissed off all the time. What they did was stupid. Give them a few months probation, a fine, and send them on their way. At least then it'll be on there record, so if they get in trouble again the punishment will be worse. And the Deputy is a dumbass for not doing his job. End of story. |

HeH HeH!! |
