Those Notre Dame game tickets will make the move more palatible.

There's a silver lining in almost everything if you look for it, although this one was easy.

I'm sad to see Bishop Rhoades leaving. He did much for our diocese, and will be missed.

This really comes as a surprise. This is news to most of us as it seems it is unexpected. i wonder who will be taking his place. He will be missed as he was young and open to instructing his generation. And Catholics in this area were so proud to have one of our own as the one of the Representative heads of our faith Rome that his origins began here.

He will definitely be missed. I know the young people really like him too. We're surprised but not shocked. He has impressed us since day one. He could be wearing a scarlet biretta one day.

It might be worth reading some Indiana newspapers to get the background about why the bishop is going there.

The first thing that comes to my mind is the Notre Dame controversy with Barack Obama showing up as commencement speaker to the consternation of Pro-Life people.

Is the Vatican sending a message by sending Bishop Rhoades there?

The Bishop In the Dioceses area of Notre Dame was weak and could not tell the presidetn of Notre Dame this was unacceptable on a National Catholic University Campus. Hence Bishop Rhoades transfer. What message did we send to our young people when obama was permitted to speak at ND Commencement.. That abortion is alright even though it is against God our Faith and mankind and a mortal sin.

My Lutheran congregation, as part of the Lutheran/Anglican/Roman Catholic covenant has been praying regularly for +Kevin (and +Nathan).

He will be greatly missed in the ecumenical Christian community.

If one of the reasons for his reassignment is to bring a very publicly visible pro-life Bishop to the territory encompassing Notre Dame: THANKS BE TO GOD!

And I agree. We need to protect those in the womb yet to be born.

Church matters should not be sensationalized in the mainstream. Freedom of Religion is a part of American heritage, but we need to separate Church from State in America, and make the Clergy irrelevant in political affairs.

Maybe if it was allowed to prevent those unwanted in the womb yet to be born, it would be a great help.

You seem to be suggesting freedom FROM religion, not freedom OF religion.

When the Church does more to protect the born (think "Darisabel") or adopt unwanted children or even protest a pre-emptive war against a nation of people who never declared war on us (think "Iraq"), I might agree; but until then....

Intimidating women who don't want a pregnancy and cannot afford or commit to raising a child for 20 or 25 years isn't Christian. Not every woman has an ideal, middle-class life with an exemplary childhood to support her.

Every issue about the Church becomes an abortion debate. I am happy for Rhoades. I wish him the best.
