Farmer hopes you'll get his goat for a meal

Full story: Orlando Sentinel

Not sure what to make for dinner tonight? How about a delicious, tender slice of goat meat? Officials at the Lake County Extension Office have recently tossed around the idea of helping prospective farmers learn more about this increasingly popular alternative to beef and chicken.

Isn't it bad enough we have animal factories filled with cows, pigs and chickens?

If you can find goat at your market, the prime meat is from a very young goat - often referred to as "baby goat" Goat is often found at the ethnic markets plus the old Mom and Pops "Fresh Fields Farms store off of Delaney and south of Michigan. "Mature" Goat is very tough meat and has to be cooked a long time to be edible. We curry it and it has to go on the stove early in the afternoon to be ready by dinnertime.

I think we should start eating a greater variety of animals. I bet a Pelosi roast might be a good start.

I love curried goat myself but it DOES get a bit fragrant while it's cooking. I live in a small apartment building, so out of respect for my neighbors, I go out to eat curried goat, I don't stink up the building with it (smile).

Great - another sector of animals to be abused at the hands of factory farms, all in the name of profits!

This is the sickest comment I've ever seen. Obviously written by someone from a 3rd world country that has no concern for killing baby goats so he doesn't have to chew so hard. Hey Jerk-off - did you know not everything you eat has to come from the early death of an animal? Do you watch cock-fighting to?

Would that also be referred to as a "rump" roast?

That's no different than eating lamb or veal. If you don't like meat fine, don't eat it.

My mother raised us NOT to eat "kind hearted" animals like veal, lamb, deer, and now dare I say, goat. Eating a goat in my eyes is like eating a dog. While some cultures eat dog and have no problems with it, eating a sweet, loving and trusting animal is BAD karma. It's just plain nasty and just plain mean. I'll stick to pigs, chicken, turkey, and beef, thanks.

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Leo

Even though you usually pride yourself on being the strong silent type, love has a way of unlocking your tongue. The words coming out of your mouth may be familiar, but your sense of timing makes all the difference right now. Keep in mind that you never know how a risky gesture will work out, although you can always hope for the best. When in doubt, take the more cautious path.
