If yo really need a new library, keep it where it is and just build a single story on the current site. How many people are really going to be using a library too often anyway by the the year 2018 or so?

Jade street is too far from all of the schools within walking distance of the Wharf road location -- Soquel Elem, Main Street, SC Gardens and NBMS.

My personal feeling is that the city should avoid a long-term (or short-term) lease. That's money wasted. And, Real Estate is a little cheaper right now. Use land owned by the city or land that can be purchased by the city. That may be more difficult, but better for long-term planning. Think about future generations. Louden Nelson left his land to Santa Cruz City Schools in 1860 and it's still being used today! That's long-term planning for the community.

The Rispin property sounds like it meets the distance criteria and is now available due to development problems. It's a site with some history. As far as parking goes, how many spaces are needed? Can we think outside of the box? Two small parking lots instead of 1 big one? Parking underneath? Expand the road in front a bit for more parking? I'm not a Civil Engineer, but there's probably a way to find the parking if people want to use Rispin.

Just wait! Real estate values are still going down and are likely to plummet over the next year or two. Worldwide, commercial real estate is down more than 40%- they just had a default by a major commercial owner and there are more coming. And, Santa Cruz has a way to catch up on the downside. So, just hold your horses.
