Hey Forrest Huff, Look in the mirror to see who's out of touch. If you don't like the Sentinel then go buy one of the Liberal rags so you can feel at home.

Hey, I have an idea. Maybe Title Two can actually start paying its taxes? In full and on time?
Just a thought!
Jeff Gallagher, Scotts Valley
But a thought based on misunderstanding, Jeff.

Actually those who don't pay their property taxes on time allow the government to act like a credit card company. But since taxes constitute a first lien, the government always gets its money and they don't suffer the losses credit card companies do from the inability to collect. Right off the bat, missing the tax deadline imposes a 10% penalty. If they haven't been paid six months later, another 10% penalty is tacked onto the bill. The a few months later 1.5% per month, 18% a year starts to be charged. Unpaid taxes are the best investment government can have. Who else can get that kind of return?

Gangs of any ethnicity are anathema to a community
That could be true but, at the community meeting at the high school follow Tenario's killing, the police were asked about the ethnicity of gang problems and they stated that the gangs they have had problems with are all Latino. Undoubtedly that will cause Elias Alonzo to conclude that the police department of Santa Cruz is a racist institution.

Forrest Huff only wants views he agrees with in the local paper. All others are to be eliminated. Is he one of the ones that starts shouting and making noise in the manner of a 2yr old when he hears an opposing opinion?

I agree with Elias Alonzo - we need to quit stereotyping the problem and start cracking down on all those Norwegian and Samoan gangs. Heck, I was confronted by a Swiss gang the other day on Cathcart, and they forced me to purchase a lot of expensive wrist watches.

Sounds as if Elias Alonzo is trying to make excuses for the crap his people are responsible for. Does he really believe this, or is he just doing damage control?

It is interesting to read the comment by Forrest Huff, a verified “Wacko,” in objection to the Sentinel printing articles by Charles Krauthammer. Krauthammer is one of the few opinion writers published by the Sentinel who have something intelligent to say. Most others mindlessly babble on about the glories of Democrats and their policies of steal from the producers to provide giveaways to non producers.

I wonder if Alonzo is a card carrying member of La Raza. He sounds like he's talking about L.A., not Santa Cruz. Are we sure the Latinos are a minority in Santa Cruz? And I don't see where they're living in horrible, crowded conditions with children going to terrible schools.
I see Latinos living a lot like I do, going to the same movies, restaurants, stores, etc.
So, we need another excuse for the gangs.
As for the 880 crime statistic he quotes, shouldn't we separate out the violent and assault type crimes from minor offenses? And then out of those count how many were Latinos?

"continuing to run disgraced neo-con Charles Krauthammer's hateful diatribes when similar columnists like E.J. Dionne go largely ignored"

Dear Huff(and puff),are you saying Dionne is similarly disgraced as the hateful Krauthammer?
Adjust your pince nez Huff and take in the glories of Dowd,Goodman,Krugman,Friedman, Ignatius, and the aging icon Broder.Nary a neocon in the bunch.Intellectual diversity is not your strong suit is it;nor is admiration of the first amendment.I bet you don't even make right turns on red.

"Diversity"??

You mention Huff, Dionne, Krauthammer, Dowd, Goodman, Krugman, Friedman & Ignatius. Are ANY of them NOT Jewish?

Just asking...

Of all his excuses, "over crowding" has to be the funniest.

Who's making Latinos crank out bazillions of babies anyway? Responsible breeding isn't rocket science.

Hey Alonzo, here's a clue for la raza -- if you sneak in this country to overconsume like a 1st worlder, at the very least stop overbreeding like a 3rd worlder.

I have utterly no idea what religion the writers are, or why it matters. If they are all Jewish,so what? Shall we do a religious check before reading someone?

[Correction to typo in my previous remark]:
You ask "why it matters... if they are all Jewish,so what?" Well,[if] they are, the odds of that happening by random chance are one in 39 trillion, 62 billion, 500 million.
I notice you still have not explained why it should matter!

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Virgo

It's okay to have high expectations, but try to keep in mind that no one can be all things to all people. As the Moon spends one last day in its current sign, it urges you to find a way to recognize others for their strengths, and forgive them their weaknesses. Virgoans' idiosyncrasies must look like strange quirks from the outside as well! Fate ties up the loose ends towards the end of the day.
