I call every day and they keep saying they haven't found him yet. Something has to be done about this. They assured me on the phone that he would be ok till we got there. they were responsible for our dog he has never been out of burnside we have had him since a pup he is 3 and a half years old white and tan. They also told me he had an injury to his back leg how could he of ran off?

You're responsible for YOUR dog. Next time learn to teach your dog where its boundaries are and you won't have an animal that runs off into the unknown.

If you think that's impossible to do, you don't deserve to have an animal in your possession. Training your dog or pet is vital for its long term life cycle if you want it to be with you for a long time.

Lastly, they are NOT responsible for your animal while in their custody besides giving it basic care & needs till the owner repossess the animal. Or until the animal is put down due to non-adopt.

I am so sorry to hear about this. One of our horrible neighbors let out of dog and the sheltor picked him up. When I went to go get him he was in the outside cages with NO water on a VERY hot day. They do not really care about the animals. I also adopted a puppy from there and they abused him right in front of me. When I said something about it the guy just acted like he didn't do a thing. Don't listen to Tonya! She doesn't have a clue. I am a dog trainer and you can train a dog til they obey every word you say but they are still free will thinkers not robots! You sound like a VERY responisble pet owner and I pray you find your fur baby!!! And if the dog is in their possession then yes they are responible for the animal. No you can't sue them or anything but it is their fault. He should have been in one of the cages where it is almost impossible for a dog to get out! Something needs to be done about that place!!

That's so sad. I have no advice, I just feel really sorry for you. I used to rescue dogs, until my baby developed allergies and I know it wasn't your fault. Some very well behaved dogs will break chains, dig out of pens, etc. They usually just want loose to chase a car or another dog.
This doesn't make you irresponsible. Period.
Isn't it ironic that they nabbed your dog for breaking loose then the same thing happened with them? If they are going to go around picking up dogs that break loose shouldn't they at least be able to efficiently retain the dog?

My experiences with the shelter have always been good. But I am so sorry that this happened to you. That's awful. Accidents happen but I would still be infuriated. I hope that you find him soon. <3

No I don't chain up my children outside. That comment is totally uncalled for. My dog has been an outside dog he is very well taken care of, this was an accident. Obviously you have never had an accident happen to. Either that our you have no feeling at all.

There is nothing wrong with having an outside dog, as long as they have adequate shelter and are in a safe environment like a fenced yard. There is something very wrong with people who chain an animal -- any animal. When an animal is chained, it cannot fully protect itself if attacked by a person or other animal. This is cruel treatment that has been outlawed by some communities in this country.

I have had few accidents since I generally take measures to avoid them. I do have feelings but they are very negative feelings towards people who chain up animals.

My dog does have shelter and no I don't have a fenced in yard. I have had dogs for years and have never had a problem like this. My dog is a happy dog and has never been treated cruel. I guess some people just think they are perfect.

This happened to me also. It was about 1 and half years ago. My chow got off his chain here in dixiebend. The Pulaski County Animal Shelter picked him up and when they arrived at the animal shelter, the experienced dog handlers let him loose. I looked for him for a over a week. They said that they had set traps for him, but when we were looking for him, we seen nothing. I put up posters and notices and notified the Humane Society. Nine days after they lost my Seminole, a lady from the Humane Society seen him lying in the road on 80 right across from the animal shelter. We rushed out there that Sunday morning, our Seminole was dead, his body still warm. My husband almost collapsed right there on 80. He grabbed Seminole up and came back to the side of the road and just fell to the ground crying for his lost friend of 13 years. I contacted Barty Bullock for something to be done about this shelter, but the truth is, they just don't care. Remember this when you vote for these officials. I certainly didn't vote for him this last time and will never vote for him again. Now to hear that this has happened again. I hope that you find your dog and have a better ending than us.

If your dog runs away from you whom it knows and loves how can you expect it to not run away from them (strangers to your dog). Your dog was probable scared of them and the strange environment of the shelter. I would say that this is a tragic accident but still just that an accident. And I can't believe that anyone at the animal shelter now would abuse an animal. They love the animals. I would believe this of the ones that have run the shelter in the past but not the ones that are running it now.

As an animal defense activist. Anyone admitting they put their dogs on chains in the ground should have the same done to them.

How would you feel not having any freedom within your property to roam? You're absolutely disgusting and don't deserve an animal.

My dog recently got lost in Burnside. I was looking in the paper and someone had an add saying that they found a tan and white dog with floppy ears in the Burnside area. You might check on that. And if anyone happens to see a black and white boston terrier in Burnside Please respond!
