More money and voting for their own raises - up to 53 k for PT work... nice if you can get it...
I love the one guy - yeah I didn't look at it but it looks good...
My daughter can't get away with that answer in school...
People please do not forget that when the Library budget came off of the Town budget books - they NEVER REDUCED the Town Budget by that hefty chunk of change...
they should be giving that money back...
vote all incumbants out!

I think if they forgo the "highway-robbery" of what is paid out for part time town council positions ...they would have more than what they need in order to make the much needed curb, drainage and road repairs in Smithtown. I'm outraged that an increase would be asked for of 3.1%. What other part time position anywhere pays as well as the Town Council Position in which an increase would be warranted!?!?!?!?!?

If you live in Smithtown, then you are doing well and can afford this slight increase. I don't want to hear people who live in Smithtown bitching and moaning about a slight increase in their taxes when they are making 250-300K a year and live in a nice neighborhood. Smithtown residents should come to where I live in Queens and see if they last five minutes. I guarantee they won't bitch and moan about the slight increase after staying five minutes.

I have lived in Smithtown for thirty years, in the same house, every time it rains hard my street floods halfway up my lawn. After countless complaints and letters sent NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. Its time to get Vecchio and his money grubbing cronnies out of office so we can put the funds back where they belong and take care of the hardworking citizens of Smithtown.

As a 25 yr.Smithtown resident, I & I'm sure most of the town's residents are very satisfied with Supvr.s Vecchio's overall performance or they would not have continued to reelect him for nearly 30 years!
However, one of my few complaints is that the town's streets, paths & greenbelts have become noticably littered with refuse, in recent years. Are our residents becoming more careless with their garbage or are we experiencing more transients, who are just "passing through" & don't care about the town's appearance?
I suggest to town officials, if they want to maintain the high standards that Smithtown has been noted for Islandwide, they organize a "Stop the Litter Campaign",
recruiting such groups as "The Boy Scouts", or any willing volunteer organization, to spend a few hours a week, cleaning up for the careless few, who choose not to!
Let's keep Smithtown a beautiful place to live!

I'm not making a statement on the tax, but your assumption that people in Smithtown are 250-300k a year is moronic. can you get me that job please? I was quite a bit off that level and currently unemployed.... get real. not everyone in Smithtown is rich......

The Smithtown Library is the most pathetic in Suffolk County. Places with a lot less wealth like Middle Country, Sachem and Patchogue have libraries that are far superior.

Smithtown is a flood zone just like ronkonkoma, lake grove, nesconsett and hauppague. When i lived in smithown and it rained we pumped the basement for days, and emptied the cesspool monthly at $500. a pop.Drive sround on a rainy day and you will see hoses pumping out water nonstop!

$300,000 a year? You must have mistaken this town for Garden City. I've lived here for years and havent bumped into anyone with that money. In fact, before you spew out numbers that make you feel good. Go ahead and google medium incomes for town on Long Island. Medium income for Smithtown is $125K. Who wants to be in Queens anyway, great place 40 years ago.

Vecchio is a crook and was not elected by the majority of Town residents - he was elected by a majority of the relatively few people who bothered to come out and vote in 2005. The numbers, according to the Board of Elections are 22,280 votes cast out of 76,324 registered voters (a pretty poor showing). Vecchio the crook got 12,370 votes, winning the election. That is less than a sixth of the registered voters in the Town. I agree with you that the Town needs to be cleaner, but I would also like to see the roads repaired...they are crumbling in many parts of the Town, thanks to Vecchio and his crooked cronies. Then there are the flooding problems that need to be addressed.

I don't know where you get your information, but there are quite a few people in this Town that don't make anywhere near the numbers you are suggesting.
