I live in Smithtown in the Tanglewood Dr. Wood La. Estate Dr. Sylvan La. Grassy Dr. neighborhood. As touching as the newspaper stories about the impact of heroin on the families of the users may be I believe that these stories are missing the larger picture by ignoring the impact that these situations have on the neighbors who are victimized, burglarized & terrorized. There are heroin users living at Madelyn M. Baldridge's 27 Tanglewood Dr. home. None of them are employed and one could surmise that jobless junkies are thieves. Our children have witnessed these people doing drug deals. Some of us have been threatened because they have directly voiced their objections to the Baldridge's. 3 homes I know of have been burglarized Many cars have been broken into. I can claim direct knowledge of at least 4 of them and a neighbor I spoke with last week told me that there were 4 more in recent weeks including his own. He also witnessed a man with a flashlight rummaging through garbage pails in the middle of the night who he watched run back into the Baldridge house at 27 Tanglewood Dr. after he was spooked. Another neighbor relayed a story to me about somebody switching license plates on a car on Wood La.that was probably related to the ongoing drug dealing at 27 Tanglewood Dr. The 3 brother's (Michael, James & Stephens) have been charged & sometimes convicted for their crimes. Michael Baldridge, who is a convicted felon who spent 2 years in state prison, was involved in a car chase in 2007 (?) that resulted more than 40 (?) charges being filed. I saw the charge sheet at the http://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/webcrim_attor... webpage. He was also involved in an incident with James & Stephen Baldridge in which all 3 of the brothers were charged with possession of hypodermic needles. They all walked away from all of this without doing any jail time as far as I know. The peculiar way the NYS WebCrims site works, in that the allegations are on view for the world to see but how they were adjudicated is hidden away, prevents me from knowing the exact outcome. James Baldridge is facing current charges for heroin in Queens Supreme Court. A former girlfriend of Michael Baldridge was caught on film at a pawn shop with the Baldridge's next door neighbor's jewelry and took the fall alone without implicating anyone else. Another girlfriend of Michael Baldridge, Jillian Rasmussen (5 Briaroot Dr.), was arrested at the local Hess Station on Route 111 in Hauppauge on a heroin sale charge while she was driving Michael Baldridge's sister's White Honda in 2008. Jillian Rasmussen is now in jail for possession of burglary tools. I have also heard that Jillian Rasmussen's sister, whose name I do not know at present, is also associated with the heroin use at the Baldridges's. The detectives that several of us have spoken to seem frustrated by the catch & release policy of the courts. I fear in the end the result may be the tragedy of somebody getting involved in an incident by taking matters into their own hands and winding up in the docket themselves after injuring or killing some dirtbag or worse yet are either injured or killed while trying to protect their home & property. I have heard several of our neighbors comment on the quality of their guns and willingness to use them. Another one was telling me a story about how how they used to take care of such things in Brooklyn back in the old days: people would contribute money to a collective pool and they pay someone to administer a proper beating. I would generally advise against vigilantism, Henry Fonda and The Oxbow Incident come to mind, but you cannot ignore the frustration of people who feel that in the absence of more proactive involvement from the authorities who are supposed to be protecting us that they are left with no other choice.

How about the SCPD detective who lives in nesconsett and sons were dealing heroine out of the house and on the block...did he know what his sons were up to...or was he supplying them with the drugs....idk...all I can tell you is that there were no arrests made involving this disgusting situation, and for some reason it was kept quiet As to the "concerned citizen" above...sounds like you got a legit drug dealing operation on your block if they are changing lisence plates...the only reason this is done is if they are picking up a large shipment of something

no, these stupid "citizens" of smithtown need to stop hurting their community and endangering their lives with heroin, and high speed car chases.
some of us have children in our cars, and this kind of scum is a danger to the rest of us who have careers, respect, and good families. people work their fingers to the bone to afford to live in smithtown and go to "good schools" and live in a "nice neighborhood"...and then there car gets broken into by a cokehead who doesn't work.
it's not right and it needs to stop.
if you have a drug problem, get help. if you know someone who does drugs, get them help. tell their parents, their family, anyone.
you know who would feel worse pain? the poor cop who almost got run over, and thankfully no one did. i'm glad these people got caught. it's sad and pathetic, but at least there a few less heroin-riddled addicts terrorizing Long Island. I hope they get the justice they deserve, as well as the help they desperately need.

The aforementioned Michael Baldridge was just involved in a twenty mile car chase down the Long Island Expressway that resulted in the injury of 5 police officers. Read Newsday tomorrow! Why are we so concerned about Madelyn Baldridge? She is just an enabler that allows junkies & felons live in her house at best and perhaps is one of them herself. She works at the Northport VA Hospital and my guess is that she has access to all kinds of drugs there. That might explain why all of her offspring are drug addicts if she is one herself.

My neighbors and I have been trying for more than 2 years to put a stop to this crap. We are not dealing with teenagers here unless the latest generation of Bad Blood Baldridges has started shooting up - chances are good that the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. Even though Michael Baldridge is in jail the general consensus from all of my neighbor's who have been harassed, threatened & burglarized seems to be that if he is still breathing he is a threat - and let's not forget about the 2 junkie brothers still loose. James Baldridge has a court date in December for charges pending in Queens.
The final point from somebody who has seen other people who had drug problems overcome them. What is needed first of all is a strong desire to stop and it helps if there is support from your family. None of that is present at 28 Tanglewood Dr. Madelyn Baldridge either has her head where the sun don't shine or is using herself. After watching these people for almost 40 years the consensus again is there is no redemption likely here.
It is really sad that when one of your neighbors gets pulled out of a burning car you think "Too bad he was still breathing".

I didn't realize that any of the Baldridges were computer literate. Next thing to do is work on your spelling. Personally I am not worried about meeting my maker. I don't rob my neighbors, rummage through their garbage pails in the middle of the night and snatch & grab Ipods from their cars for a fix.

Here is the story from Newsday: A Smithtown man who has been arrested more than a dozen times over nearly 20 years tried to run over a Suffolk cop Tuesday and then led police on a chase that ended with a fiery crash, officials said. The driver, Michael Baldridge, 38, was among seven hurt, including five officers, in a 19-minute chase from Ronkonkoma to Plainview on the Long Island Expressway. It was there that police arrested Baldridge just before 8:30 p.m. after he hit a center divider, clipped a pursuing patrol car and flipped over with his three passengers. Police Commissioner Richard Dormer said officers acted within department guidelines. "They took a dangerous guy off the street," he said. Chief of Detectives Dominick Varrone said Baldridge was "well-known" to the Fourth Precinct and has been the subject of frequent complaints and police attention. Baldridge has been arrested at least 13 times since 1991. In 2007, he was charged with unlawful fleeing of a police officer, according to online court records, although the outcome of that charge was unclear. The chase Tuesday began after detectives said they saw Baldridge and his three passengers engaged in a suspected drug sale, police said. After two unmarked police cars tried to box his Jeep in, a detective approached on foot. Baldridge reversed toward the detective, who suffered a minor injury when he jumped out of the way, police said. Baldridge then led police on a chase to the LIE, where he headed west, tailed by at least two police cars and a department helicopter. Near Exit 46, Baldridge lost control of the vehicle and struck the median, overturning and sliding to a stop. The Jeep caught fire and officers helped pull the four suspects from the wreckage. Dormer said Baldridge "fought violently" with at least three officers. Baldridge was treated for a dislocated shoulder and cuts at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow Wednesday and was later released back to police custody. He is to be arraigned Thursday on charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless endangerment, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, among others. Also arrested were Elizabeth Rasmussen, 19, of Smithtown, Anthony DeRosa, 20, of Ronkonkoma, and Patrick Louis, 31, of Westbury. DeRosa, Louis and Rasmussen were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, loitering and criminal possession of marijuana. Rasmussen also was charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic needle. Rasmussen and Louis were to be arraigned Wednesday, although information wasn't available. W

All of this stuff is available online I am not making this stuff up. The part of the story that is missing from the Newsday article is the most shocking. A man who is a convicted felon who spent 2 years in state prison: http://nysdocslookup.docs.state.ny.us/kinqw00 DOC Inmate Records MICHAEL BALDRIDGE DOB - 05/21/1971 DIN - 97R7811 002 Years, 00 Months, 00 Days ATT CRIM SALE CONTR SUBSTANCE 3RD C Felony 11/17/1997 05/14/01 PAROLE DIV OF PAROLE At one point in June 2008 was facing yet another car chase incident that resulted in 30 counts being filed, another set of drug & needle possession charges & topped off with credit card fraud. He waltzed away from all of this earlier this year without ant jail time and 6 months later is involved in another car chase. These are the questions that we need answered: Who was the judge who let a convicted felon waltz away from a 30 count car chase, credit card fraud, and drug possession charges? Why was Michael Baldridge behind the wheel of a car again less than 6 months later when he should have been in jail? If I was that cop that almost got ran over I would be plenty pissed off.

I read your post just yesterday and when I read today's Newsday, bells went off. It amazes me these people have gotten away with all they have for so long. Thankfully, arrests were made and innocent people did not die in that police chase. I agree with you, there should be a second look at the judge that set this animal free, allowing him back into our neighborhoods. There needs to be some accountability here. Heroin is running rampant on our streets and it has to stop, one dealer at a time. Let's put some pressure on our elected officials to put an end to this hell we are enduring. I applaud your efforts!
