Smith Center will be back with all of the starters except three. We will also be getting a couple of additional players transfer in. One of them is supposed to be a real speedster. Don't look for any dropoff with the Redmen.

Wonder where the transfers to Smith Center where recruited from.
State should look into Smith Centers recruiting
practice.

You're right, we did recruit a teacher to void an open position. Just by coincidence the teacher has a large family.

Investigator will be wasting his/her time because the incoming players are the sons of a new teacher.

How amusing,to think a small rural high school(my alumni I might proudly add)is under scrutiny by an "investigator" for recruiting football players.Com e on.First,Coach Barta's program is so solid with hometown boys year in and year out, recruiting kids in is too much.Next,I wouldnt be surprised some young men wouldnt want to move to Smith Center to be on a perennial winner(or even have their Dads wanting that)But recruiting teenage boys to a rural 2A school, I truly doubt that. Go Red!

Not to many years ago Wichita Collegiate played in Smith Center and said they didn't know they'd be playing in the middle of nowhere in a "cow pasture" hence the field was briefly titled "The Pasture of Pain". Since Smith Center is located about an hour and a half from any larger towns with a Wal-Mart, it would be very difficult to recruit players. "Investigator" needs a reality check.

I might add that "cow pasture" is one of the finest stadiums and fields in all of Kansas. It is by far better than the field and stadium at a local college here.I remember that title "Pasture of Pain" and smiled as memories of practices focusing on hard hitting were instilled upon us.We took great pride in being fierce hitters.Ive told people for years I got hit harder in practice by my own teammates than I ever received in any game.Another great memory comes to mind the top line of our scouting reports always had something like hit, hit, and hit some more.If i was an incoming fough of the Redmen I sure would hate a visit to the "Pasture of Pain". I know for a fact guys from Osborne,Plainville, and Norton said we hit harder than anybody they played.Good Luck Red on the upcoming season!

You are absolutely correct. Thanks for generous contributions from R.D. Hubbard, we have top notch facilities that we should be proud of. Traveling with my son over the state of Kansas, I noticed several 4A and 5A schools, some of which were brand new, that didn't have facilities any better than ours.

The hard hitting you spoke of is still a pride factor in Smith Center. In fact, one of the postgame lockerroom coaching quotes is "Who hits harder.....we do!".

Go Red!

Ask a Smith Center player and they'll tell you that St. Francis hits harder than Oakley.
