You do know that 95 percent of Americans have received tax cuts under Obama, right?

I do not believe it will be in the best interests of the people of the state of Kansas to strip the legislature of the authority to pass any laws of any kind. They are our lawmaking body and supposed to have Kansas citizens best interests at heart. I also realize that from the legislature's voting record of recent years, most people here in Kansas think most of the the legislature has mental illness also. I will go no on this one.
So, do you really want a mental person to decide for you whether or not you should vote? Also, if you take the vote from someone, you also need to take the tax charge from them. Too mental to vote, so too mental to pay tax.

I'm not a soldier. Never was one, but If congress can't separate PTSD from other mental illnesses, They're not doing their job. PTSD doesn't hinder a persons vote. Good God.

So all of you still belive that because i was in possesion of drug residue when i was 18 years old, and i didnt do the controled buys from my drug dealer for a get out of jail free card (took responsibillity for my actions instead and was charged with a felony) now i donthave the same rights as you do? cant the samejobs that u do? what other option am i left with besides working at mcdonalds or commiting more crimes to pay for food for my family? so because i did drugs when i was young and didnt snitch my way out of it, then im not allowed to vote on the drug laws that obviously arent working anyway? i think i would be more qualified to vote on such issues than someone who never tried drugs, so because of a couple choices i made when i was completely ignorant to how the world really works, then i am not allowed to be a normal member of society now that i have a better understanding of it? i cant rent tthe same houses or get the same jobs as everyone else? do our lawmakers really think this will help me to become a role model for our counties children? no it wont, and taking my right to bear arms and telling me that if i have a firearm for hunting or home defence and they catch me with it i will go to prision for a minimum of 5 years, where i will be forced to live with real criminals, all i did was inhale some smoke that made me feel different, didnt hurt anyone or steal from anyone, so why must i be looked at in the same light as some lowlife child molester? im not a criminal, yet i am forced to live like one. i guess you guys who still have some of your rights left wont understand, like you doctors who prescribe meth to grade school kids under the name " Adderall" i have done both and they have the exact same effects on you, so mothers dont let your kids eat meth capsules

Cannot feel sorry for you, you and no one else are responsible for your actions. Because you did not have the fortitude to turn in the seller, pusher, what ever you want to call them, you pay the price. Did you ever think that by turning in pushers you may be saving others.

I question the rationale of this bill. If they are talking about the mentally ill who are committed to an institution, MAYBE. This bill is way to broad; almost anyone could be disqualifed.

This is much like the GUN CONTROL ACT under which ANYONE can be denied the ability to purchase any type of firearm, for nebulous and never fully explained "reasons". Or that totally screwed up law "The Patriot Act" which has nothing to do with "patriotism". Or the recently enacted and signed into law quietly; law which allows the USSS
[secret service] to arrest or detain anyone who is speaking against the "king" [President or other cabinet level officer] within a poorly defined radius of that person. So much for the 1st Ammendment!!

This issue was resolved in the 2010 election wasn't it?

Why are people still arguing/campaigning for and against it?

You can't think that all the people in the State of Kansas are dum enought to vote anything but yes, after all some of the people that are told they have Mental Illness may have became that way in the service of our country and they were fighting so a$$ holes at the capital in Topeka can do this to men and woman fighting for fredom.
Mabe this is not the way a lot of people think and I would bet you if this happened to your dad or mother or even your wife or kids you would change your mine, well good luck because what goes around comes around.

The reason I voted against disallowing those with a “Mental Illness" the right to vote, was because of the vagueness of the term “Mental Illness”.

Currently that sees to cover everything from ADD, ADHD, Depression to PTSD , on to full blown psychosis and court determined incompetance.

Way too vague and seemingly broad for me ~

That’s why I voted YES on the Kansas amendment… back in November 2010.

Hell, the guys coming home now have it good...when I came home from Viet Nam in 66 after 5 jaunts to the land of eternal niceness, we were advised NOT TO TELL PERSPECTIVE EMPLOYERS that we had served in combat in Viet Nam; and especially not to mention that we were SpecOps. That little fact got me disqualifed from attending medical school despite my disgustingly high GPA.

Back to the point of the post....if they can't differentiate between PTSD and the other fun things vet's get to live with; how the hell are they going to figure out the average person with some minor issues? Weegee Board? or just some less than educated "social worker" who lives in lala land?

How about someone who "used to" have depression?

According to the mental health association, those people are still considered to be "mentally ill", just recovered or in remission, but are still susceptible to a relapse.

The way I understood the law, ANYONE who is or has EVER been diagnosed with a "mental illness"... and there are thousands of them... minor or not, remission or not, CAN be excluded from voting under Kansas law.

Ergo, anyone who had been diagnosed as having Attention Deficit Disorder in the third grade, cannot vote when they are 30 because they have - or had a mental illness, and there is no way to prove they don't still have it.

Sorry, like I said, I voted against retaining it back in 2010, and would do it again.

As far as I'm concerned, most of the politicians currently in office are solid proof that most voters are mentally ill. All politics is about anymore is two parties in control who strive to screw us over, each in different ways.

Until all the biased, self serving, backside kissing, clowns are thrown out of office, our laws will continue to reflect their personal agendas. I can't count how many times I've heard someone say they voted for someone because they were the lesser of two evils. That is an insane statement if I ever heard one.

Voters need to quit voting for who they are told to and get together and find that new candidate who is better than the two evils and send a real message. But it won't happen, because 90% of America has been brainwashed by one side or the other.
