New sheriff in Raleigh County, WV??

Lets keep the votes coming. Maybe if we have an idea of who we might get we can figure if our police response time can get better i.e. more man power, or if it is going to stay the same with too few deputies on the force.

There is a lot to think about when voting for sheriff. Its more then just a man in a uniform looking pretty for the cameras. Look into those running and see what they stand for and what they propose to change. It could benefit us all in the end.

If anyone votes for Steve Tanner, you are foolishly mislead. He is arrogant, lazy, and does not have the knowledge to be a police agency administrator. He is not fair to all deputies and has his favorites and continuously benefit them regardless of the need of the public or other deputies. Tanner has set the Raleigh Sheriff's Office back to the time before Mangum structurally organized that office. Before Tanner became Chief of Detectives and subsequently Chief Deputy, the Detective Bureau presented many cases to the Raleigh County Grand Juries. Since he has been in administration, the uniform deputies, who don't have the time to do a thorough investigation, present most of the cases to the Grand Juries.
Tanner is only concerned about himself. He doesn't care about the public. He talks well but does nothing but belittle people whom he comes in contact with. If he cared and had the knowledge, you would see a more productive and professional sheriff's office. If you think I have a vendetta or not telling the truth, vote for him. If the majority of the voting citizens of Raleigh County want "Hitler" as a sheriff, he'll be the sheriff. You'll see for yourself when you need for him to eliminate a problem or talk with him!

Yikes, that account of Steve Tanner is pretty harsh. I would hope that it isnt all true being that he is currently the chief deputy. I know that the sheriff just appoints whomever he feels like to the chief deputy position, but I would like to think that he would do so with the interest of the people of the county at heart and the men and women who have to work under the chief.

Does anyone else have a personal take on any of the others who are running? I do not know much about them other then what they are representing themselves as, and we all know that we put our best foot forward when we are trying to sell ourselves.

Seems to me that Bob McComas either has one person voting for him over and over on here, or it looks like we are going to have a new sheriff in town.

I know all of them, here is a shot bio on them.

Tanner is the Chief Deputy of Raleigh County, and has work for the RCSO for about 20 years. All though I won't agree with every thing ( A concerned Citizen ) wrote about him, most of it is true.

Stevens came here from Ohio where he worked as a police officer, and he worked as the Police Chief in Rainelle for a short time. He mostly runs a Bail Bonding company with a family member.

McComas retired as a First Sergeant from the West Virginia State Police with 25 years service, and spent about a year as the Chief of Police in Sophia.

Of the three McComas has the most experence as an Law Enforcement Administrator.

Beleive me you don't want Bob Mccomas in as sheriff. I know him personally. The truth is not in him. He starts a project and never finishes. He is a liar, he likes the women, can't have just one,is his way of thinking. Raleigh County is in real trouble if he gets in for Sheriff.

I have known both John Stevens and Bob McComas for years. I don't know who posted the above anti-Bob comment, but he is absolutely correct. In addition, most people seem to believe that Mr. Stevens has experience only running a bonding company. Not true. He is Police certified in 3 states with over 24 years of experience, and runs the bonding company in Raleigh County, where he has lived for 10 years. He is also a registered Bail Enforcement Agent. I guarantee that if he is elected and given a chance to achieve the goals that he has set forth, this County will be happy to re-elect him for a second term.

Not true. He has over 24 years in law enforcement, and is certified in 3 states. He has had some real goals for two years now. Bob has also attempted to duplicate these goals on his website. I wouldn't try to tell you how to vote. Look at the websites for yourself. Also, If McComas hires everyone he has promised a job, this county will be bankrupt. As far as Tanner goes, I do not know him...but some of his own co-workers are supporting Stevens. Thats all I need to know about him.

I think this site is pretty neat!!! I just found it and am sure that one candidate definitely has known about it as he seems to have the majority of the votes!!!! Maybe this is just a coincidence BUT it is probably not so as I have heard ALOT about this candidate and its NOT GOOD!!!! I know of all 3 and I feel Stevens is the best man for the job!!!! I hope everyone in Raleigh County goes to the polls and votes in May as we definitely do need a change. The good thing about John Stevens is that he has only been in Raleigh County for 8 years and isn't into any " little clicks!!!" I feel if given the opportunity to implement his goals and show the county he is experienced and qualified that all Raleigh County residents will be pleased. Everyone tell family and friends of this site so people can voice their opinions!!

It's time for a change in Raleigh County!!!! Look at the web sites for all candidates and make a choice. Get out there and vote!!! We can't make a change in our county unless we do vote. If you don't vote then don't run your mouth!!!! My vote is for Mr. Stevens. He has the experience and I think he is the best choice from what I know!!!

It is funny how voter made the comment about Mccomas promising jobs to everyone. He is correct he promises a job to everyone he talks to. How can he hire everyone? Is this a lie? I do not know the other canidates very well, but I hope there is a God in heaven when the time comes for Sheriff, and it is not Mccomas. Mccomas is in it for the status that is it! He has a big ego that has to be fed and this is the way to do it. Please, ask questions about this man, before voting for him.

Pretty clear to this citizen that stevens has found this site and he has started his mud slinging on bob mccomas and steve tanner.

i was very excited to find this site because i love discussing and debating political issues.... however, it looks like it has been used for a little more than just that. i have known bob mccomas for 20 years- the above comments are slanderous- and unfortunately this seems to happen when other candidates start mud-slinging and trying to belittle their opponents. oh well.... hopefully people can step back and see the comments for what they are- hateful people making hateful comments.
in my opinion- bob mccomas has the most amount of experience and i think he should the next sheriff.
as for jp stevens- i wish him the best of luck- but mud-slinging and slander are not going to get the sheriffs job.

I won't pretend to know Mr. Stevens or Mr. Tanner that well, but I do, however, know Mr. McComas. I know that he is a Christian man with strong convictions and beliefs. I also know that he has already given 25 years of service to the citizens of this state as a WV State Trooper, retired as a 1st Sargent, received a purple heart from the governor for being shot in the line of duty, and has strong ties within the county with many civic/non-profit organizations. These are all things that those of us who "truly" know Mr. McComas personally, are quite well aware of. As for his credentials, if in doubt, visit his website. It's all there and cannot be disputed by these people who are obviously threatened by this man's extensive experience in law enforcement and the fact that he is well respected within the county and the state by the people who truly know who he is and what he is about....

man this really is some gossip someone really loves dear ole bob Mcccomas well tell you what Bob McComas has got my vote, anyone that can be a trooper for 25 years and take a bullit while doing it and wants to be sheriff oh well. I am dam sure supporting the man.

Isn't it funny that when it comes to campaigning and the closer it gets to election how candidates who are supposed to be "adults" begin to act. When they start their little smear campaign on other candidates it's because they are afraid that if they don't do something to make the other one look bad then they won't stand a chance on winning the election. This is something that grade school kids do. GROW UP! I pray that when it comes time that all the people in this county will take time to consider all the candidates and their experience. Everyone needs to check out their web sites also. I know for a fact that the McComas site has been up for 6 months and the Stevens has been up for maybe 3. So... when it comes to duplicating goals then who is the one doing it??? I am out in the public constantly talking and listening to people and I have not heard of anything bad about Mr McComas or of him promising people jobs if he is elected. The only things that I have heard are about his plans to make this a safer county for all of us to live in and this should be our main concern when trying to choose the right man for the job. I'm positive that if any of us have any concerns or questions we can go to Mr. McComas or Mr. Tanner and they would be more than happy to take the time to talk with us... not at us with a bunch of bull. And as for the rumors, well consider the source. They are coming from someone that knows that he doesn't stand a chance against either one of these men. As I have already said, go to these men with your concerns and questions, get it straight from the "horses mouth". Don't go by what is being spread by the rumor mill.

Having worked w/ Bob McComas for over 7+ while he was a WV STATE TROOPER and more recently having been assisted by him while he was Sophia's CHIEF OF POLICE, after I myself was a victim of a senseless physical assault, I can only wish that all the citizens of Raleigh Co. knew what a fine, and noble human being Bob McComas is. In my opinion there is no other candidate that possesses the leadership capabilities, and ethical fortitude that has endeared Bob McComas to all who truly know him best.
