I am seriously considering moving to Marquette in a few years. I haven't been able to find any apt. complexes on the internet though. I am from Florida and believe it or not, I hate it here. I love the cold weather and snow. (Hopefully, in Marquette, there will be NO lizards). Is there anyone out there that can give me some good advice on the living up there (I will be retired) and guide me to some apt. complexes.

thanks for your reply. May I ask what is your age bracket. I really would like to know if you think I would like living there, if it is a clean town, crime, activities, dining, etc. I really would appreciate any info you can provide. |

I think I just posted this in the wrong place. what I am trying to find out are peoples opinions on living in Marquette. I will be retired so are there activities, dining, just things to do that are interesting. Is it a clean place with low crime? This just sounds like somewhere I would like to live. any advise would be so greatly appreciated.

Robin:
We are in the process of retiring to a neighboring town, Munising. Marquette is our "Big City," 40 miles away. The shopping and dining in Marquette is cool - not just chain places, but places with imagination. There is a huge park. We read the local paper on-line daily and there is sporatic crime, but doesn't appear to be major. In Munising, there is a ton of stuff to do - all year round, and a bus runs between the towns several times a day. No Lizards, but the Mosquitos and Black Flies can be a little much. The person that suggested Tourville is probably a good place to start. We currently have friends there because they lost their home to fire - try them for an "extended stay" and get a feel for the area. Your original pst said you were from North Carolina. If so, there is a great place in Marquette for pulled pork - Union Grill. I was raised in Charlotte, so we always stop for a couple of pounds. |

Lots of outdoor sports, biking and swimming in the summer and skiing in the Winter. Limited Crime in the area. No gangs, or graffiti, or bad areas that you would have to avoid looking for a home. I would suggest that before you make the decision to retire here permanently, that you rent an apartment for a year and decide whether or not, you can handle winter. We do get snow. And at times, we got lots of it. And it can get cold here. Here is the City Website: http://www.mqtcty.org/ # Here is the Chamber of Commerce Website: http://www.marquette.org/ |

thanks for everyone that has provided info on living in Marquette. I did check out Tourville and they seemed to be really nice. Does anyone else out there have any other apts that may be a nice place to live. I am planning a vacation there to get a feel of the place.

Here's a great link, its one a lot of the college kids use, as well as the property managment companies, it updated often and has tons of options. Good luck! Also if you plan on moving here make you have a job lined up first, there pretty much no work up here.

There is work up here, you just have to be diligent. But since the person said that they are going to move here after retirement, its more than likely a moot point. |

Thanks for topping off my "moot point" with another moot point.Get a life.

Take a long walk off the Ore dock. Loser. |

I moved here 5 years ago from Charlotte,NC and I love it here. I would also suggest Tourville if you are low income The Marquette Housing Commission could help.
|
||||
I don't know why this thing has me from Concord, NC, because I am from Tallahassee, FL. If Tourville is for low income people, then I may not qualify - but it depends on what is considered low income. |
||||
Tourville is not considered section 8 housing. Most of the residents of Tourville are retirees who have sold their homes. Its a very safe place to live at either of their locations. Tourville has many amenities including "Tourvilla" and underground parking for an additional fee. Its well kept and taken care of. |

Theres a retirement community directly adjacent to downtown and the nearby quiet police station. Very nice, highly recommended. Accessible. Newly remodeled. Quiet. 5th & Spring St.
