Marrin was in Minnesota? Tell another lie as I spoke with him Monday morning on the street IN SISTERSVILLE! Foxes yes men got what they wanted and are happy with that. Remember election time when all the yes men run for re-election...VOTE THEM OUT!!! Its time for the residents to take the town back!!!

If you drove it non stop from Sistersville, it would take roughly 18-24 hours. I know because I have driven it very recently.

It may have taken almost as long to get there by flying. Unless he got a direct flight from Pittsburgh to Minneapolis he would have been routed out of Chicago.

If the Mayor says that someone reported that they were in Minnesota we should take him at his word. That is a lot of our problem, we as a whole do not support our elected officials as we should and we should also respect them. Most of the problems that we have here, we have brought on ourselves. Lets try and work together and we will see a change for the better.

What is wrong with you? We don't have a Mayor and haven't had one for quite a while, there can only be respect if respect is earned, that has not happened. Get a life.

WTOV carried this story the other night. Can't someone correctly interpret the law, or have they already, that he can remain mayor until next March, residency issues notwithstanding? The alleged vagueness of the city charter doesn't help things. It's telling that no one seemily wanted to be mayor. How about Mrs. Walker and Rice? They ran against Fox. Will they throw their hats into the ring?

I love Sistersville's people, but the ones that run the show-a LONG-standing problem-innately would form a firing squad by creating a circle. Studies done that are collecting dust...not lobbying as hard as possible for a bridge instead of a part-time ferry (which could still be kept as a tourist attraction and repurposed)...not developing one of the closed schools as a Sistersville museum highlighting the river as well as another oil and gas museum (Parkersburg doesn't have to have the only one)...the continual deterioration of the Oil and Gas Festival...continual infighting over the consolidation (citizens' fault-can't be laid on any administration)...the list is almost endless. Even so, I salute the positives that are here and are coming!

The most recent Charter I read (1958) said that anyone that holds office (City Council, Mayor, and Recorder) had to be a BONIFIED resident of the Ward to which they were elected from. Fox is not a bonified resident. Fox has admitted that he changed the address on his drivers license. Since 9/11, that is not an easy thing to do and cannot be done on a whim. But, I do have a suggestion that might solve things. Someone, preferably Carolyn Flannery, call the State AG's office ASAP and get his opinion. Because short of a decision by the WV SupCo, that may be the best option.

Sounds like we have a good Mayor candidate here in Goodfellow.

'True Grit,' I'm not a resident, but there are qualified people-intelligent, forward-thinking, patient, and with enough life experience to get the job done. Folks in town need to flood council chambers from now on, so much so that they would have to meet elsewhere. People will receive only what they DEMAND-over and over again until the powers that be MUST respond to the people who put them where they are.

BTW, I meant 'misters' Walker and Rice.

Council meetings are to conduct the business of the City and to hear and address the concerns and problems of the citizens. Flooding the council chambers and forcing the city officials to meet somewhere else is foolish and would only harm any new relationships between the Mayor's office and the people, it would also lead to a continuation of the disfunction of city government. Not all people have the same political views and it would be impossible to satisfy everyone. But your views are respected and being a school teacher I hope you think out what you teach the children before you make silly statements like that to them.

Question for those who read the forum.I don't want any negative responses just an answer...If a person OWNS a business and property in town but lives just outside the city limits, can he or she run for office of Mayor? Thanks!
Changes Needed

At present the charter reportedly states that you must live in the city when elected but (until changes are made) you could move anywhere you choose after being elected.

From WTOV9:
Confusion raised over Sistersville mayor
"...Fox is still mayor according to the city charter, which states the mayor must live in the city limits when seeking election. There is nothing that states where they should live after they take office; therefore Fox's residency is legal..."

The Mayor, whomever, needs to be a Salesman to push his/her agenda in such a way that the Council can see the advantages of his/her agenda. Is there any great expectation when he/she assumes the office? The change for change sake mentality needs to go!!!

If you'll stop being the mayor's pitchman and read with an open mind and might see that the changes are needed in the city charter so that future controversy over the mayor's city of residence can be avoided. Change for clarification IS NEEDED for this and possibly other foggy areas in the current charter. It's not merely a change for change sake mentality it's a forward looking mentality to make things run smoother in the future.

@ Townscitizen. You did NOT have a conversation with me on the streets of Sistersville on Monday morning. I left for Minnesota on Sunday August 18th and spent the night in Illinois. I arrived in Minnesota on Monday August 19th. I will be at the next council meeting if you would like to talk about this face to face. If you would prefer to speak with me about this privately I would be willing to do that also.
