camp virgil tate - pool

I heard they are fixing the pool and going to re-open. Does anyone know if this is true? And when?

They are closing the pool. After that guy drowned they can't afford the insurance to keep it open. Besides, it is in the middle of an ancient indian burial ground. There were numerous bones and artifacts recovered when they built the pool. I heard that there have been several unexplained drownings over the years and locals think it is haunted.

I've lived here my whole life, grew up at that pool, and never heard any of that.

I heard they are going to put a new one in or remodel because all 4h clubs need a pool.

It was on the new about a month ago they were going to "try" to reopen it this year if repairs don't go over the budget.

When will they decide about the pool ?

I worked at the pool as a lifegaurd up till the time it was shut down and it isnt over nobody drowning they needed new pipes and pumps throughout the pool it wouldnt hold water anymore and couldnt get funding

The county has money for anything else they want.That is VERY LARGE piece of beautiful property, and it is a shame that a portion of our tax dollars can't be used there.

I also worked there.. But not up until it closed I left a few years before and I agree with u. No body drowned. And the place wasn't haunted.. We had a major pump issue and the pipes were super hold and not holding up anymore.. They are getting a new pool. They will be digging up where the old one is and putting the new one in its place new pump and new pipes. It's also bigger and the facility will be more up to date. It won't be ready until the summer of 2013. Demolition will start this summer. I talked to Thelma a couple days before she retired. I'm so happy it's back. So many memories and good times!

I currently work for the camp, and through a number of years of neglect and other issues. The pool has shifted, and the base has cracked. To my knowledge there hasn’t been any deaths caused by the pool. We are currently working on raising money for the pool and also the camp to bring everything back to its original beauty. We have gotten a substantial amount of money from the pool, and hope to have everything started by the end of this summer, and completed in the fall. In hopes… everything will be finished by next summer.

That is great! It was a great place with lots of memories! Can't wait till we can go there again.
