Truth is, there are a LOT of drunken injuns yeah they r tha natives dat give good natives like me a bad name..i'm a good person goin to college and makin a good life! i just wish my people would turn down drugs!

You bring it on yourselves. You constantly pull the race card as a defense, with anything that doesn't seem to go your way. You use the fact that you abuse drugs and alcohol, because the white man "did it to you". The lamest thing I have heard has to do with all the incest that seems to go on, and in THIS day and age... it is still acceptable to some? I hope that is something that I was misinformed about...from a native friend of mine, because if not, Your people have MAJOR problem. I also cannot see where the native community will ever be looked at any differently, until the are not so dependent on handouts from the government for EVERYTHING they do. Instead of working hard and raising money for projects or going about things like hard working AMERICANS do.... they first look to see what they can get for free... grants and such....because they are Indian. They have the best schools (buildings) the best medical facilities, college opportunities that most of us, would die to have... but it is never enough. I heard something funny, while some natives were preparing to setup a tee pee at the pow wow... realizing that none of them knew how to and couldn't find anyone that did.. one of them said well the poles are numbered, aren't they? It just seemed ironic. While waiting to get into the pow wow, at the gate...You see signs that say No DRUGS OR ALCOHOL.. as people are throwing their 40 ounce bottles out the windows of their vehicles. Fake silk flowers and foam crosses from the cemetery littered the landscape... COME ON NOW... take some pride in things. If you think the pow wow is alcohol and drug free... listen to those that talk about tee pee hopping. Out of sight out of mind. To c-boy, please do not disclose the college you are attending, if it is any reflection of what you wrote. Just goes to show you.... if you are native, you can slide by... It's called reverse discrimination, and that's what we should be talking about.

Not all natives are like that. There are people on the reservation that do have hard lives. Even if they do have a good job it's hard to get by in daily life. If we had a closed reservation we would be like Pine Ridge but at least we wouldn't be having all this racist crap going around. Pinky Indians use the IHS, they are only native when it comes time for free health care. Thanks to white people our culture is dying, the reason why we get anything for "free" is because of what government did in the past. They are paying back for the hardship and pain that the native race had to go through. The killing of innocent people and taking our land away. We were here first! Our past ancestors were hunting these lands long before white settlers came across the ocean on their shits. If it wasn't for white settlers who brought their alcohol to swindle native tribes for fur we wouldn't have most of them dying from alcoholic related incidences. I m not saying I m a full blood but I am half. Half white and Half Native. I have both white and native friends. My grandfather was full German my dad i half German my mother is 3/4 native and you know what? I don't care. It's stupid shit like this that makes natives so upset. What do you think the public school is sitting on? A Native American gave the land so that a high school could be built for both native Americans and white children to get a better education. This stupid fighting over how Indians are bad and how whites are bad has to stop. This shit has been going on for a long time when is it going to end? Never at this rate.

I support the fact that you have an opinion, thats great. but quite honestly, the stereotypes you are talking about exist in every culture, not only native. you have to understand a topic before you form an opinion, and to be perfectly frank, I don't think you do. life is particularily difficult for some natives, and this is sadly a result of european involvement. the blunt truth is that native people were here first, and were living happy, prosperous lives without the europeans. I believe that their involvement was inevitable, and what's been done is done. however, just because something happened in the past doesn't mean it stays there. these people aren't happy and the solution is not to ignore it. those who understand and care about this issue, understand the need for compassion, and change. those who don't should learn to educate themselves on both sides of an arguement before they decide to make a ridiculous racist comment. sometimes the best solution is to just shut up

This topic should read-How does everyone feel about white discrimination. It is discrimination to me when I read in the help wanted ads in the paper for casino employment and it says Indian preferance will apply. What would happen if white people wrote white preferance will apply. It would really stir up the natives.

You cannot say I don't know what I am talking about. I live in this dysfunctional town. It is NOT like all other communities. Living here has turned me into a racist... and it is not because of one or two bad apples. You would have to live here to know what I am talking about. I am very educated about the past. History abounds. There is no stopping progress. Basically what you had here was eminent domain... this country had bigger things in store for it, than what it was being used for. That's the way it goes. Sometimes it is not pretty... but all is fair in love and war. We learn from the past. I do not believe that we should be held accountable for the wrong doings of our ancestors. that is what is slowing the process of the Native Americans in becoming independently functional people. They stand with a crutch. It isn't doing them any good, to have everything handed to them as our government does. Celebrate the culture.... do not hold it over someones head and slap them in the face with it. That is why they do not get the support they need. You don't demand respect. You don't make people care. When you play the blame game, who is gonna jump on that band wagon.... Not me.
