Making A Turn To Motor Scooters

I found him. Doug Day is one of the few people in Connecticut not griping about escalating gas prices.

Stan, travel on two wheels is my love. I have been doing it since 1966.
Please get yourself up to speed on "safety". It is dangerous out there, even on the back roads.
Talk about training, wearing all the gear, all the time (ATGATT) to save your skin.

Talk to your doctor friends in the emergency rooms at the local hospitals.

I try to stay out of commuter traffic with my 850 pound BMW touring motorcycle. The scooter riders do it in shorts, clogs, no helmet, no gloves. I cringe as I see them buzzing along hugging the right side of the road as the cars do the speed limit plus 20 bumper to bumper.

My wife and I rode over 10,000 miles last year, including our trip just past Saint Louis, MO. We do interstate and back roads. One is no more safe than the other. Experiance is King. I still take an ERC, experienced rider course, every two years. One can never let their guard down to survive on the roads of today. Thanks for hearing me out, Stan. Have a good day.
P.S. Golf clubs on a cycle will upset the balance and make it unstable in certain conditions, don't try it!!!

It was nice meeting Stan the other night. Maybe Stan will organize a Hartford Courant Scooter Club. Here are some links to other Connecticut scooter organizations.

This is the United States of America for goodness sakes. We shouldn't have to ride around on mopeds like they do in the uncivilized countries like Italy. Bush needs to lower the cost of the gas and let us drive cars like civilized people. I don't even think these things are very safe and they make so much noise and bad smells. We need to think very hard about this. I'm very concerned about where our country is headed. Next we'll need to ride bicycles like the Chinese or the Philopinians. Sheesh.

Let's not get carried away with this "scooter" madness. Believe me, there isn't much I enjoy more than riding just about anywhere on 2 wheels. For me, it's a 2 1/2 to 3 season commuting solution. I wish I could do 10K / year as the previous poster has done.

But the sad fact is, that in a the middle of a blizzard with 8" on the ground, and another 10" coming, scooters just are not the answer. Hell, around here people loose their minds in 2" of snow and the best 4X4's money can buy.

Motorcycles and scooter have their place and their time. Unfortunately they just are practical 4 season transporters here in New England.

Even I give up at the first accumulating snowfall, and don't resume until late March or early April. Depending.

Then take the bus or mass transit. The future will be car-less.
