Why are taxpayers paying for this event, a business owned by a private person, being supported by the Tourist Development Authority? Even the cost of publicity and website is coming out of taxpayers pockets!

The Franklin Press says the TDA is planning to put billboards out on I-40 to advertise it (county commissioner Ronnie Haven brought that up), and TDA member Beverly Mason said that "there are more cars from Georgia in the parking area when Smoky Mountain Performing Arts center hold shows. I think some of the advertising we did in the Atlanta area helped bring people." Wake up, peasants! Learn what's behind your tax money! Ask who benefits! Ask how much that Cochran woman has been paid so far for her private business! Ask what her ties are to the power structure! Ask how much more it will cost us for law enforcement and roads and water to bring in tourists for the very few people who will benefit from those tourists! If you don't own a motel or restaurant or entertainment venue in Franklin, you are paying to support those who do.

So, now the idiots in charge at TDA are trying to bring the "Broken Spoke Saloon" to Franklin for some wild, drunken debauchery, fights, killings, drugs, etc. that will come with that crowd and it will be funded by OUR tax dollars! I say "NO THANKS" Ms. Cochran, Haven and all the others who hope to profit from this BS and pay for getting them to Franklin with OUR tax dollars. Franklin does not deserve to become another Sturgis. Where will WE get the police and jail space or morgue space to handle all this roudy, criminal behavior? Wonder if Drake is involved in this BS?

Yes, the Cochran's partner is an employee of Drake, and they want to bring people in to the Smoky Mountain Center for Performing Arts, and Drake's Microtel and Holly Springs rentals will of course benefit as well as the Fun Factory and its restaurant. Also several people on the TDA board were players in getting the airport extension to accommodate Drake's plane.

I haven't noticed any increase in air traffic at the "new" airport, still only about 20 - 30 people using it per month but WE, the taxpayers have gotten a huge increase in the expenses for maintaining a playpark for a few. Try and find out how much the airport costs US per month! You will get the runaround and silence as you are directed from one person/office to another. Thought the expenditures of government entities were public property/knowledge? Not in Franklin/Macon County!

Hagen also has a lot of interest with his 3-4 motels and "other" businesses! One of his "managers" got busted recently for selling drugs/manufacturing drugs from one of the motels, doesn't prove anything, but, what did he know his employee/friend was doing? Life is about money and heard that since then, he is having money problems. Want to see how he runs the motels, go online and read the reviews on the "Franklin Motel"! I have never read such lousy reviews! Most were about how filty and non-functional the rooms were but lots about the personnel, none favorable!

Can you believe it? The Tourist Development board just gave Phil Drake's entertainment center $10,000 to pay for two entertainers during the motorcycle rumble! Incredible!
