White House Senate back Verification of Citizenship for Health Care Reform

Full story: www.numbersusa.com

The White House issued the following bullet points: Undocumented immigrants would not be able to buy private insurance on the exchange. Those who are lawfully present in this country would be able to participate. Undocumented immigrants would be able to buy insurance in the non-exchange private market, just as they do today. That market will shrink as the exchange takes hold, but it will still exist and will be subject to reforms such as the bans on pre-existing conditions and caps. Verification will be required when purchasing health insurance on the exchange. One option is the SAVE program (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) which states currently use to make sure that undocumented immigrants don't participate in safety-net programs for which they are ineligible. There would be no change in the law that requires emergency rooms to treat people who need emergency care, including undocumented immigrants. There is already a federal grant program that compensates states for emergency room costs associated with treatment of undocumented immigrants, a provision sponsored by a Republican lawmaker. The White House acknowledged that illegal aliens would be able to receive emergency care, and that hospitals would be reimbursed through taxpayer funds.

Yes, but too easy. Way to easy. Somethings cooking. The White House would not cave in so easy if something else wasnt in the works, and no outrage from open borders advocates. Something smells.

This is a no brainer for anyone with an ounce of common sense.

Hopefully, these politicians haven't expended their very limited capacity of common sense in making this "extremely difficult" decision.

Keep the pressure up on Washington, they can't ignore us even if they try.

Another tea party anyone???

They should add that emergency room visits MUST be true emergencies, not the sniffles, etc. or the person WILL pay full price out of his/her pocket. No money? We check your status and home you go if you are illegal. That would stop most non-emergency visits to emergency rooms. We all know they go to the ER for non-emergency treatment.

Exactly. The SAVE Act would have been great, had it passed. But, Pelosi was too worried it might discriminate against illegal alien moochers. I think she should just cover the costs of all of them.

To get cash, food stamps, medi-cal/medi-caid. A SAVES is required to verify citizenship status for all recipients.

If we cannot verify cotizenship they are only eligible to restricted/emegency medical benefits.

This should be a requirement in healthcare reform bill. The SAVES System is there and available. It takes 1 day to get a SAVES for a case. Why wouldn't PELOSI want it for this? She is disgusting, her and her botox.

We are going to push-push-push till they make this bill serve WE THE PEOPLE not ILLEGALS!

I honestly think if they want emergency or prenatal care they should be forced to pay for it. Any unpaid healthcare bills they have should be a reason to not give citizenship/residency in the future.

Go home pay for your own damn healthcare.

It probably is. A illegal immigrant woman is eligible to receive full prenatal-delivery and post natal care now at the expense of taxpayers.

It probably *is* and yet it shouldn't be. We really should see to it that that is NOT part of it, as pregnancy, in 99% of the cases, is NOT an emergency. Citizens have to pay for their own, and it *is* preventable.

It's quite simple, as soon as they pass an immigration reform bill (read that as amnesty), those here now illegally, will become legal and will qualify for all government benefits.

As well she should. Unless you prefer her death or the death of her infant.

Well then wouldn't it be nice if the citizens that are in favor of providing these benefits to illegals would offer to pay for them and the citizens that are not in favor had the option to opt out of paying for them? Sounds fair to me. I would rather provide for my family then someone who chooses to break laws.

There are plenty of people who still use home births. Pregnancy is also preventable. Citizens must pay, so illegals should also have to pay. If not, home they go to have the brat. Pregnancy is almost never an emergency. You hear all the time of stupid people having the baby at home and dumping it somewhere. So let the illegal deliver it herself and then deal with it. Perhaps that would make them think twice about coming here and popping out anchors.

It has not been too many years ago that women had their babies in the field, tied them up in their apron and went back to work. 9 months of pregnancy is not an emergency, and American taxpayers should not be held responsible for someone giving birth in this country so they will have an anchor baby. They have been having babies in their own country for quite a few years, let them continue having them there.

I have a better idea. I think the citizens who are not willing to pay for them should opt out of America. I'm for a compassionate America, a place where human beings are not allowed to fall through the cracks. I'm not willing to pay for the care and feeding of bigoted citizens, but I know I have to. It's part of my obligation to our society.

First of all, citizens who cannot pay do not have to pay. Second, you have a heart as big as a dust mite. Do you happen to call yourself a "Christian", by the way?
