What?? You mean that farce called mitigation--the darling of developers isn't to blame? It was, after all you all's idea--the brainchild of developers and developers sitting in public office. Also, what about your pushing for zoning changes to environmetally sensitive areas? The list goes one and one. You can make excuses about there being a market--I guess drug dealers could too, right? If you people were pushing solely to rebuild and restore blighted areas, build where hundreds of old shopping centers and warehouses now sit abandoned, or develop areas that are not out in the middle of nowhere so that utilities have to be brought to them, spreading urban sprawl more and more---ahhh--the list goes on ad nauseum.Greedy developers arent the problem. The underlying problem is humans are exponentially multiplying in number and they have to go somewhere. The problem is just going to get worse in all areas across the globe as humans use, consume, take more and more.
Developers are simply making money off the demand, we don't cause the demand. If nobody was buying the houses, shopping at the shopping centers, working in the office buildings...developers would be out of business.
Development/developers respond to existing demand, not create demand so how can it be OUR fault? We don't go build houses or commercial buildings in the middle of nowhere and hope people come and buy them...we build where people want them and demand is strongest.
It's easier to blame big bad developers though rather than look at yourselves.
I am sorry, but you guys could all go out of business tomorrow and Florida would not shed a tear. The jobless--or rather the people who chose to go into a non-sustainable career--- they can always learn a new career or follow you out of State. After all, development is pretty short-sighted when you consider it cannot go on indefinitely. Eventually a limit is reached. Florida is reaching it--already has as a matter of fact. Please take your business elsewhere. We have had enough. I have watched by home State be raped and pillaged by your ilk for the last 40 years. I have no love or any sympathy for any of you. You pull the strings of government as well as destroy the natural environment without so much as an I'm sorry. I hope the real estate crash we are having is enough to make all of youleave the State and go somewhere else. Florida has suffered enough.
