The Most Congested Intersections In Montgomery County

When it comes to driving around Montgomery County, traffic is a fact of life. One place is at the top - or the bottom - of the list when it comes to congestion.

In addition to some of the most congested intersections you mentioned I believe you should definately include the intersection of Wisconsin and Western Avenue. It is bad enough now but with the continued over building in this area it can only get worse. Do the traffic counters have blinders on while doing these studies? I live just off Western Ave and it can sometimes take 20 minutes or more just to go 2 blocks. The traffic turning on to Military Rd is backed up to Western Avenue daily.

Georgia Avenue at Randolph Road (Silver Spring)

A top contender for almost 5 decades.
This intersection Blows a wet hairy torg choad. I wonder how many millions of gallons of fuel have been wasted at this intersection in the last half century?

I wanted to add that the biggest reason for the congestion is that Montgomery County (Peoples Republic of Maryland) is on the take from the oil companies. All traffic lights in Montgomery Couty are set so that you will have to stop at everyone and waste the costly gas. Maybe if they took the time to make the traffic lights work in unison as they are suppose to be there would not be so much congestion. Just a thought.

actually they are, new hampshire ave is a perfect example. some time
though there are intentional reds, for instance randolph and any road.
the reason is that people go through those intersections at 50 + and if they get in the habit that the light will be green then they don't pay attention. if it is always red then a save habit is formed.

I honestly think that the reason there are so many firstations near randolf road intersections is to rapidly get to the accidents on randolph.

i'll bet that in the past hundred years, over 5000 people have lost their lives on that freaking road.

I would have to say the further down county you go, the worse the traffic and intersections get. I live in upper Mont. county, Germantown and above and dread traveling down 355. My most resent experience was Montrose Rd. Traveling Montrose to get to Rockville Pike. I can't say how many inappropriate words came out of my mouth.

I agree with Montrose. If you haven't used it lately, you think you're in a different city.

Muddy Branch and Great Seneca shouldn't be so bad, but the red light runners make it this way. Any cameras around?

I vote for the intersection of East-West Highway and Colesville Road as (one of) the most treacherous intersections in Montgomery County.
Last Friday I was nearly run over in this intersection by a Metro bus (I was in the cross walk as the bus turned onto East-West Highway); immediately behind the bus was a pickup truck just waiting to finish me off.
My e-mails to Metro have fallen on deaf ears, too.
Last year this intersection made the news because of pedestrian fatalities, though I didn't hear any mention of the dangerously uneven pavement -- it's a hazard for anyone will visual or physical impairments.
Yup, this one's a winner in the loser department.

What in heck is up with the traffic lights down here? Why are they all four minutes long? That just increases the traffic waiting behind since it takes people ages to get going again. We need civil engineers who are better in touch with the commutes down here. Honestly, they could learn a lot from NYC!!:)
