Does anyone know what happened to the cell phone service yesterday, 8/8/2012? I was in Silver and everyone was complaining that they couldn't make a call. And, in fact when I called my wife, a recording came on saying I had to use the area code to complete the call. Tried calling 3 times and finally used are code and the call went through. Does anyone know what happened? Thanks.

In May 2011, Verizon's ONLY tower in the area located on Jack's Peak was struck by lightning and damaged. They patched it back together and since then, the entire area has experienced up to a 50% signal-strength loss. The equipment has been problematic since then. With solar flare activity peaking this year, signal strength has further eroded. Verizon told me "You are just a one tower town..." and left it at that. Supposedly, we are slated to get a new 4-G repeater on Jack's Peak by the end of 2013, but I'll believe that when they switch it on (which will likely increase the coverage area to 4X the current!). We were also supposed to get an additional tower/repeater site on Glenwood-Brushy (also 4-G), but Verizon didn't give "Filthy" Bill Richardson $40k in cash in a brown paper sack on his desk, therefore the state's "Permit" to do the work was suddenly lost in red tape by them. Hope this helped explain...
