N.J. sues out-of-state fireworks vendors

Courierpostonline.com Tuesday, June 27, 2006

New Jersey's attorney general has filed suit against four Pennsylvania companies and a Virginia firm, accusing them of advertising and selling fireworks for illegal use in New Jersey.

"These companies misled New Jersey citizens into believing that they could legally transport, possess and display fireworks in New Jersey," Attorney General Zulima Farber said Monday.

The lawsuits, filed in Superior Court in Mercer County, accuse Keystone Fireworks, Phantom Fireworks, Spartan Fireworks and Sky King Fireworks, all based in Pennsylvania, and Virginia-based Discount Fireworks of violating New Jersey's Consumer Fraud Act.

It is illegal for anyone to possess, use or sell fireworks in New Jersey without a valid permit.

State investigators say they made an undercover purchase earlier this month of more than $500 worth of explosives from Discount Fireworks. The company arranged to ship the fireworks, with names like "Armageddon" and "Goliath," to New Jersey on June 20, authorities said.

The state also charged two of the Pennsylvania companies, Sky King and Phantom, with advertising fireworks on outdoor billboards in New Jersey.

A woman who answered the phone at Sky King's Morrisville, Pa., store said no one could comment on the lawsuits Monday afternoon.

"We're really busy," she said.

The companies could face tens of thousands of dollars in fines if found guilty.

This is rediculous. I buy tons of fireworks from these vendors for my fourth of July party. Everyone enjoys them and no one dies from them. However, our state politicians are busy trying to come up with laws to end out of state purchases of fireworks for NJ residents. I think they all need to worry about our state budget, education in the state, crime, and other more important things than wasting rediculous amounts of time fixing loopholes in such a rediculous law. This is why I cant stand NJ politicians. ASSHOLES!

The liberals are taking our rights away one at a time. Law abiding citizens are being railroaded by the left. Record taxs and the worst yet most expensive roads ($ 1 Million a mile) in the US and fireworks are the problem?
