i recently needed to get my cesspool pumped. usually, i just call the same cesspool company for the last 15 years. imagine my surprise to be told that they no longer do business in mastic beach! apparently, you need a special permit to do work in mastic beach. it does not just consist of paying a fee and proving you are licensed and insured. it requires the contractor/cesspool pumper/ tree remover/landscaper, etc.... to have a totally different insurance policy than required by state of ny or suffolk county. they want alot more insurance.

i called over 15 places. no luck. finally, i got a place to come out to pump. they are registered in MB. guess what? the service that usually costs around 400.00, costs over 750.00 from the "registered contractor". how is this good for mastic beach? this reduces the pool of people to choose from and makes the few that get the special permit rich because they can charge virtually anything, since they are the only game in town.

this really stinks. why should the village of mastic beach tell me who can pump my damn cesspool or put up my damn fences or anything else?

This is terrible. But, there is a worse rule in effect in mastic beach village. if you are doing some minor work such as replacing a piece of your fence, or removing a bush, and your next door neighbor helps you, this is a fineable offense in mastic beach village. your neighbor is considered an Independent Contractor and is required to get the same permit as a REAL contractor to help you. this is just a bunch of crap.

imagine getting a ticket for helping your neighbor pull out a bush, because you are now considered a Landscaper? ridiculous, yes....part of the codes of mastic beach village, yes.

stupid, inane rules that benefit nobody.

Does the village supply a list of "Licensed" contractors? If so, how many cesspool contractors are there? If more than one please tell us who you used so we know they are taking advantage and not even bother calling.

Where have all of you been? Read the codes, they are messed up. I do recall the MBVEC saying that they wouldn't make contractors pay another fee in the village. Maybe they lied.
Want to hear another stupid village law? You cant bury your beloved family pet (cat/dog, etc) in the back yard anymore. Sure the TOB can, but not here in the good old MBV. Bury a pet mouse and run the risk of getting a fine.

I would love for you to site one example of this "insane interpretation" of the code being enforced. I agree with you about one thing...this is just a bunch of crap.

I think its BS that I need to spend $100 to work in MBV when my Suffolk license says I can work all over Suffolk. I pay $400 for that license. Now I can I cant work in MB or Southampton unless I pay $100. Guess who is paying that fee if I do work there? They went too far.

It does not matter if and when it is enforced Brady. The point is it can be enforced and done so out of sheer harassment toward a particular resident. Olivo was once overheard saying that the board didn't even read the codes when they passed them. The question I have is who is responsible for making up these idiot rules. How does harassing residents further the goal of cleaning up the community.

Hey, I am just asking IF anyone has ever tried to make this ridiculous reach that an unpaid-neighbor becomes an "independent contractor". I just don't believe it. What I do believe is that some would post a ridiculous comment like MBV outlaws all cats with one leg....

I believe the board did not read these codes. The vision team is generally speaking incompetent. Biondi kept insisting that everyone was getting code enforcement warnings first even when the residents were telling him it wasn't true. Idiot!
Bob Morrow and Ken Olivo did not know there was an application made to the Village for Gary's cell tower even though the plans were filed with the Village. Idiots!

I heard a code enforcement idiot tell the board at a meeting that he was going to give a warning to some guy but the guy mouthed off to him so he gave the man a summons. Biondi said this was ok because code enforcers were like cops! Biondi then went on to insist that residents got warnings first! Unreal!
Mayor Biondi needs to wake up.Just because you dress them up like cops Code Enforcement officers are not cops. Oh and by the way Gary they are not suppose to carry guns either.Cops are trained and must take a psych test. The code enforcer who made the statement is not trained and is also not certified for code enforcement or security guard. This is the kind of guy Gary authorized to carry a gun during the hurricane. That is frightening!
just wondering

code enforcement stopped neighbors of mine that were cutting down a dead tree in the backyard. they were told that they were in violation of village code. they did not need a permit to take down their own dead tree, but since a neighbor was helping, they were an independent contractor and needed to apply for a permit. that's how i found out about this stupid code. i saw it with my own eyes.

here's another ridiculous code

Issuance of licenses.

All licenses shall be issued by the Mayor to such persons as he shall deem fit and proper upon an evaluation of their qualifications and upon compliance of the applicant with the provisions of this or any other applicable local law. However, licenses for circuses, theaters or other exhibitions or performances, the keeping of billiard or pool rooms, bowling alleys, shooting galleries and other similar places of amusements for money or hire or the giving of exhibitions, performances or entertainment at any place within the Village or the use of mechanically operated amusement devices shall be refused when, in the judgment of the Mayor, they shall be likely to disturb the peace and order of the Village or be immoral or improper.

Now, they are the taste police. they are going to tell us which music is "appropriate" and if it is "appropriate" to have a bouncy house at our kid's birthday parties. stupid ridiculous instrusive

more and more and more of these gems:

[Adopted at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions, Art. II)]
License required.

No person shall engage in a transient retail business in the Village without first obtaining a license therefor.
Definitions.

As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:

TRANSIENT RETAIL BUSINESS
One conducted in a store, hotel, house, building or structure for the sale of retail goods, wares or merchandise, excepting food products, and which is intended to be conducted for a temporary period of time and not permanently. If the place in which a business is conducted is rented or leased for a period of six months or less, such fact shall be presumptive evidence that the business carried on therein is transient retail business.
